I used to own that exact vario empire but sold it. I'm getting the new trench watch to replace it.13mm is not thin for a hand wound dress watch in that orient monarch. That's dive watch thick. Thicker than a Submariner. Really above 10mm is getting on the thick side for any dressy hand winder.

I have the Tissot Heritage 1936 and I love it. The size wears smaller than the 45mm suggest. As the wired lugs are very short and bends downwards. And very comfortable on the wrist.

Great video Chris, I have been gravitating towards manual wind watches this past year. I love that Orient Monarch, but I have noticed that watch is pretty hard to come by nowadays, especially the eggshell dial variant. FYI, the NOMOS Club I picked up two months ago went for $750, an incredible deal!

I've looked for a top 10 or a Best Of on KZfaq for mechanical hand wind watches as I have a collection. Thank you for compiling this list. Off the list I have the Junghans Max Bill, Hamilton Khaki Field. I would include the Bostok Komanderskie and The Seagull 1963 as they are both reliable, rugged and have historical significance.

Best watch on here is hands-down the Hamilton Khaki Field Watch. Incredibly accurate. Mine settled in at +1 sec/day with 0.0-0.1 beat error.

For me the Orient wins by a landslide. Mine runs at +2 secs a day, which is amazing for a cheap watch.

I can't recall what model is the German made hand wound watch that my dad gave me in college (in 60s) , in my mind that was the happiest period of time with a delicate, accurately and easy to read watch in white dial, brown leather strap.

Great idea for a list. Too small for my liking except the Tissot which is too antique for me. On this list the Vario and Merci looked great and so did the Nomos - the Arabic version. For Christmas I picked the Vostok yellow sandwich-SE 420. At 39 mm a touch small for me, but at $130 it’s fun, colorful watch. Also have a second inexpensive hand wound Russian watch coming in for X-Mas-a Raketa 24 hour watch. About $100 or so with shipping. You can get it in a variety of dial colors-really fun watch.

I’ve got a Hamilton with the H50 movement and it’s probably my most accurate watch as well as my daily wear. Total no brainer. I’m going to have a look at the Tissot with the 6498, those are great. Laco offers a few, just north of 1K that are quite nice.

yeah I think they put a wait list I was able to purchase it just by clicking on that button and it took me through checkout and I was able to buy the watch I don't know when it'll actually arrive but I was able to pay for it
