Living in Melbourne, I have been to many Australian Opens. Whilst watching most tennis ONLINE, I always thought Giorgi had the most hard hitting forehand, however, I changed my mind when I watched Kaia Kanepi at Melbourne Park, in REAL LIFE.... as a casual tennis player myself, I was gobsmacked at how hard she actually hit the ball. Kanepi blew my mind
@leonidasse

I’m not sure Giorgi hits that hard, I’d say it’s the tremendous pace rather than strength in her case. Kanepi on the other hand is pure strength indeed.

I think Giorgi and Ostapenko should be no1 and no2.. Not only for how hard they hit the ball, but also for their gameplan.. They just have no alternative, even when they see that it's not their day for a power play, they have no plan B, or play with more control, they just keep bashing the ball as hard as they can .

I think I’ll start with Ostapenko. Ostapenko is a hard hitter and good returner. That’s why she was able to win in Dubai this year. Unfortunately for her she still has not been able to defeat Alexandrova as of late and that’s why she lost today. Petra Kvitova’s resurgence on tour on grass was quite remarkable when a lot of us were counting her out with the season she’s had. Amazing effort to get past Muguruza at this years US Open. Little bit saddened by Collins and not being able to rebound off of that Australian Open run. I say the same for Keys to but Keys did win a title in Melbourne this year. Sabalenka was also a victim to Alexandrova on grass this year and had her chances against Swiatek in the US Open semis but the women have gain better mental toughness in order to win well and stay healthy. Unfortunately for Konjuh she has sustained a lot of injuries. Let us not forget that retirement last year against Kasatkina that gave Kasatkina the title outright.

Unpopular WTA opinion: Watching (most) hard hitters is not fun at all. The majority of them, even the better ones at the top of the game, have poor rally tolerance, they can’t keep the ball in play for more than 3-4 shots and make tons of ugly errors, they don’t have variety and have a very one-dimensional game, they are messy, streaky and inconsistent and their hard hitting is usually a compensation for terrible movement. I just find most of their games very visually ugly (there are some exceptions). It’s way better to watch naturally athletic players with fluid movement and controlled aggression (Alcaraz, Swiatek, etc).
@pomerlain8924
@pomerlain8924 Жыл бұрын
it's not an unpopular opinion. It's the truth. It's part of what leads to all this WTA inconsistency and the reason most, if not all, of these power players will not win slams. And it comes down to to coaching. All these girls are coached to simply be aggressive and go for their shots, even if they are missing. They have no idea how to problem-solve and change-up their game if their shots aren't landing in. Like adding more spin, hitting to safer targets, or coming to net more. And as result, we get terrible matches, like the 2017 USO final. And you would think after Keys' terrible performance in that final, she would have learned from it and tried to improve her consistency. But it's been 5 years, and she still plays the same high-risk brand of tennis. It might look nice, but she hasn't won that much and is not a factor at slams. The men are coached to slug it out from the baseline as well. The difference, though, is that they are also taught to be consistent and defend. They don't have to go for broke every point. They can keep points alive with their defense & court coverage, and utilize spin for extra margin and safety.
@laprimaverrra
@laprimaverrra Жыл бұрын
@@pomerlain8924 To some extent, we can blame this on the Seles/Williams sisters/Sharapova mold. Except these players could consistently paint the lines, finish points at the net and had the mental toughness to raise their level on the big points.
@laprimaverrra
@laprimaverrra Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. I think it may be better to slow down the surfaces again to somewhat reduce the advantage of hard hitting. But it's the development of better racquet and string technology that allowed ultra aggression to become the norm, so there's no going back.
@regulusarcturus
@regulusarcturus Жыл бұрын
@@laprimaverrra I obviously don’t count them in this category. Seles and Serena are all time greats with complete games, Venus was a superb athlete in her prime and had plenty of variety and one of the best net games ever. Sharapova was kind of robotic in the later half of her career and never had great movement so she always looked a bit awkward on the court, but at least she was mostly consistent.
@pomerlain8924
@pomerlain8924 Жыл бұрын
@@laprimaverrra Seles, the Williams sisters, Sharapova, and Davenport all had better control and made proper tactical decisions. Even Clijsters, Pierce, & Henin. For example, if they were pulled outside the doubles alley, they were not going to try to hit a DTL winner from there. They would make the smart decision to roll the ball back cross-court to reset the point. They all had power, but they knew when and where to use it. And with the exception of Sharapova, they knew how to grind matches out playing their B, C, D, etc. games to get the win when they were making a lot of errors.

Rybakina is weak. She didn't even qualify for next week's WTA Finals. She in the race to WTA Finals ended up being only 21st. Ostapenko in the race ended up being 18th, but Jabeur 2nd. Plus Rybakina got destroyed by nobody from France in US Open first round with the score of 4:6 and 4:6. Elena Rybakina is weak. She can't win even against outside top 130 opponent. Jabeur lost to Rybakina in Wimbledon Final, because of pressure and because she played badly herself.
@shaharrosenberg8659
@shaharrosenberg8659 Жыл бұрын
@@einarsd4 Rybakina didn't qualify for the wta finals because Wimbeldon wasn't with ranking points this year- the russians and belarussians players weren't allowed to participate because of the war. I bet that you wouldn't manage to return one ball from her so weak she isn't😂😂
@einarsd4
@einarsd4 Жыл бұрын
@@shaharrosenberg8659 If she can't even win one set against as weak opponent as Oceane Dodin is, then she is weak. And I know that in Wimbledon no ranking points were given to tennis players. And Rybakina isn't the only one who was affected by it. If all Russian and Belarusian tennis players would have been allowed to participate in Wimbledon, Rybakina wouldn't have won it. With tennis players like, Azarenka, Sabalenka, Kasatkina, Samsonova around, Rybakina on any surface doesn't stand a chance. Kasatkina even without Wimbledon managed to qualify for WTA Finals. Elena Rybakina even struggled against Ons Jabeur and barely defeated her. Elena Rybakina defeated Ons Jabeur, because Jabeur played badly.
@shaharrosenberg8659
@shaharrosenberg8659 Жыл бұрын
@@einarsd4 Rybakina won Andreescu in the 2nd round, Halep in the semis and Jabuer in the final so she dosen't had an easy road to the title. The russians and belarussians weren't change alot because except of Sabalenka there isn't a strong grass player. Kasatkina, if you are talking, is a weak player who basically run and defend until her oponnent will miss. She dosen't have a backhand and 2nd serve at all!! Rybakina loss to Burel in the Us Open dosen't say alot because most of the recent years grand slam champ aren't having a good results right afterwards (kenin, stephens, ostapenko, andreescu, osaka last year, raducanu...). There is just not the same mentality in these years that grand slam champ had in the past (serena, venus, clijters, sharapova, henin, hingis, azarenka...)
@einarsd4
@einarsd4 Жыл бұрын
@@shaharrosenberg8659 What a bullshit you just wrote. Andreescu, Osaka, Stephens and Ostapenko are far superior to your beloved Rybakina. Kenin had bad season that's all. Ostapenko, Stephens, Osaka and Andreescu didn't lose to opponents outside of top 130. Elena Rybakina did. This shows that Elena Rybakina doesn't have serve and return. Daria Kasatkina qualified for WTA Finals even without participating in Wimbledon. Daria Kasatkina is Wimbledon former Quarter-Finalist, Azarenka is former world #1, Samsonova won 4 tournaments this season and played as an equal with 1ga Swiatek. Ostapenko even defeated Iga Swiatek at the start of this season. Rybakina is weak. She is ball basher with weak style. This year's US Open showed that she is indeed weak. If she can't take even a set against weakling like Oceane Dodin, then she doesn't belong in top 100. Just put against her any decent opponent and she will lose the match. Kasatkina is way better than Rybakina. They do and they have. This era is far more competitive which means that this era has far better mentality than previous eras had. Nowadays reaching top 100 is great achievement, in previous eras it wasn't as great. Not so long ago Rybakina lost in 3 sets to Katerina Siniakova. As you can see, Rybakina is so weak, that she can't win against opponents against which most tennis players will win. Even Siniakova has better first and second serves. If in Wimbledon Belarusian and Russian tennis players would have been allowed to participate, then Rybakina wouldn't have won the tournament. Andreescu would have won against Swiatek if umpire in the 1st set tiebreak wouldn't have made that costly mistake in line call. Ostapenko, Raducanu, Stephens, Osaka and Andreescu are all former top 10 tennis players a ranking which even to this day Rybakina wasn't able to reach. Barbora Krejcikova right after winning French Open last year qualified for WTA Finals. And this year she in Ostrawa Final defeated Iga Swiatek. And here you are saying that recent Grand Slam champions doesn't have good results right after. Iga Swiatek won 8 out of our 9 finals this season. How about you do your research and shut up? You only embarrass and humiliate yourself.

Excuseme but where is Vicka, Masha, Venus and Serena?. If whe are talking about active players, Venus and Vicka should be there, and is not an excuse the fact that both are not in their best moment in her careers, but most of the players of this list arent at their best on the tour right now, and non of them except for kvitova have won a grand slam.

Vika? Azarenka has never been one of the hardest hitters; her strength is depth and consistency.

I would say Osaka (at her best) and Konjuh are the most powerful, just from the KZfaq video (not live) one can tell it's like a man's power and speed.
@Empy003
@Empy003 Жыл бұрын
To the people who are asking why Serena wasn't included, this video doesn't specify that the hardest hitters would be accurate as well, and that's why Keys is at the top 🤣. Serena used to have controlled aggression, and only a few other players show a quality like that, but not in Serena's levels. Serena used to construct points, and although she could easily overpower any of her opponents, she made sure that the one powerful shot she hits after setting up the point becomes the winner.
