You missed Chemical Wedding (Crowley) May 4, 2008 Even though actual production started in 2000, Bruce Dickinson and Julian Doyle had be working on the script since 1988.

When i first watched Boyhood. It made me wonder how did they cast a perfect look alike version of their young cast and adult version. Now i know they actually shoot a growing cast over 12 years. 🤯Mind blown.

I've been knowing that when I saw Red Letter Media's review of it. They didn't like it. But they did like how they made it during a 12 year time period.

Since Avatar took a decade to be made, it make sense why the sequel took so long let alone 4 sequels for James Cameron to write

Avatar is one of those movies that was worth being in development hell, because it would’ve been a big flop, had it not been for it’s groundbreaking technology. Also movies like Roar and Thief in the Cobbler were doomed from the start because of terrible working conditions and studio interference that plagued those films!

Alita: Battle Angel was in development hell longer than Avatar, which was part of the reason for the delay. Alita's development began with Cameron getting the film rights to it in about 2000, but it didn't make it onscreen until 2019. There was a heap of development done on it in 2003, so you could at least list it as 16 years. Cameron decided to go ahead with Avatar rather than Alita because he thought the Avatar CGI would be easier.

The russian animated film called the overcoat took yuri norstein almost 42 years to make and the movie is still in production to this day

Inception took 10 years for Nolan to write and he made Batman begins and prestige coz he needed the money to make his project come true

Great list, but another movie that is worth a mention is Dark Blood. They started production in 1993, but unfortunately River Phoenix had passed away, leaving it unfinished. They did release it on 2012, making it his final movie appearance.

What about Back to the Future? That movie took 4 years to make cause of major studios rejecting the script until Steven Speilberg read it and it finally got made by Universal and we got a great trilogy out of it

Yes. I didn't really watch those flicks till about a year ago. And definitely a well done trilogy. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd in their heyday.

And it fell short compared to the original. I. E. Their clash with the Underminer going wrong, then a new quest to fully legalize superheroes unaware someone in that organization wants to keep them illegal forever via putting mind-control devices on them.

Just wait for 100 years to come out. Started development in 2015, won't be released until 2115. So hyped for that movie to release.

The Simpsons Movie is nostalgic for me because it brought some of the charm back to the series that the later seasons lacked 😊

The last good season was season 9 though 10 wasn't bad but most def by the 13th season the soul of the Simpsons was gone for me and unfortunately the movie wasn't able to make me feel the same as u...they should've ended the series after the 10th season and the movie should've came out in the 90s..i can't believe the Simpsons is still running..no matter how Terrible it's gotten it still doesn't ruin just how amazing the show was in the 90s

You forgot the French animated feature "The King and the Mockingbird", 32 years! Started in 1948 eventually finished and released in 1980.

It is a good movie. It still holds up very well. Just that people only look down on it because it is similar to other movies. Funnily enough these people seem to forget that movies is all bout copying other movies..

They’ve been working on Avatar since 1999, I’ve heard that James Cameron came up with the idea from a dream 😴💭 he had in 93 or 4. So technically they’ve been working on it longer or he set that aside until the project came to fit it in.

Sardar udham took 21 years to complete with 13 years in pre production. It's an Indian movie with great perfection in every scene and it's a masterpiece. Check it out.

The footage used for Thief and the Cobbler is from the Recobbled Cut, which is as close to an original vision cut as we will ever get. It was done by the fantastic Garrett "Tygerbug" Gilchrist and looks like it is from Mark4.

For me it was Ghostbusters 3/afterlife. I don’t know how long it was in development hell for but I absolutely loved the final product.

Yes, many said it was the greatest animated film never made. I saw home video releases of it and enjoyed it for a while. It wasn't till I watched this vid that I learned it had a real big case of production hell and had to be released from an unfinished workprint.

I remember when Avatar first came out, i seen it 3 times in movie theatres with my dad. then i went with different friends at different times, about 4 different times I’d say. 7 times i watched this movie in theatres with in 2 weeks of it coming out 😂 I want to re watch it now, i can barely remember it

The brazilian documentery "20 years later" from Eduardo Coutinho has an oddly original title to translate. "Cabra Marcado para Morrer" litarely means "Goat Marked for Death" but, in this case, "goat" is an expression for "brave man".

Not a very interesting list for me as I haven’t seen most of the movies, but the one with sleeping beauty is kind of shocking yet understandable. The pre-CGI method used made the movements quite realistic. So thumbs up to whoever had that idea

So why is everyone acting like they won't be seeing Avatar Part 2,3,4,5? 🤔 You know James Cameron is going to go lengths and beyond to give perhaps one of the greatest movie experiences yet again. Till date, I believe Avatar squeezed everything out of 3D to give the best experience ever. The world was beautiful Closest to that was Gravity but that Chick was screaming so much it became unbearable. Everyone knows in space no one can hear you scream. It just bothered me how much she screamed.

For a second. I thought Ghostbusters Afterlife would have been at the top spot but at most... 2 came out in 89 so thats a relatively small number at 33 years. Its still spiritually the third film we never got

Yeah, and The Thief and the Cobbler was considered the "Greatest animated film never made." I had a lot of fun watching it long ago on VHS, but never knew for so long it had such an extreme case of production hell and had to be released in theaters from an unfinished workprint.

I’m surprised no Frozen. Disney had been trying to make a movie based on the Snow Queen since the 30s but it was never fully realized until Frozen came out in 2013
