There is a small crystal that gets dislodged that tells your brain your head is tilting or moving. This little crystal is present in every human being but when it gets dislodged it moves via fluid to an area it is not suppose to be. The epley maneuver is a set of positions to put your head in to put the crystal back in place through momentum gained in the fluid of the ear by using gravitational force by tilting the head in a certain manner via the epley maneuver. I did it and it did go away and also a little fluid actually exited the ear so I expected my feeling to be caused by a build up of fluid in the ear. I had a perforated ear drum and from time to time it will ring and apparently will build fluid causing the vertigo. The ear drum busted from a viral infection that after it popped my equilibrium was thrown off and started draining cerebral fluid (not good and sort of gross). I would be sitting and fluid would just pour out of the ear, I could also blow air through it by holding my nose which is a sure sign of a busted ear drum.

Jesse;Same here. You might want to get tested for Meniere's Syndrome which is different than BPPV. I have Secondary Endolymphatic Hydrops which is similar to Menieres and I have to watch I consume to avoid the lighheadness or flaoty feeling that you describe. You will need to start reading, a I did, to figure out what it going won with you. You might want to start with an ENT specialist and move forward from there.

I thought the same thing. I get so dizzy I drop to the floor just to avoid falling. I cant even crawl without tipping over let alone manage to get somewhere to be able to do this. I did find something that helps for me though. My episodes are pretty intense, so within 60 seconds I get nausea and vomiting. I feel like Im tumbling in the dryer. Ive had five episodes in the last two months, but since Ive been pulling on my ear, they dont get to the point of nausea and the dizziness goes away fairly quickly, especially compared to just waiting for it to pass. As soon as I feel one start, I pull my earlobe out and forward parallel to my face. Then give it about 10 to 15 good tugs in quick succession. The dizziness fades in about 20 seconds or so (it feels like a long 20 seconds though) I keep my eyes closed while I do this to focus on whether or not I feel like Im moving. Open them occasionally to see if my vision matches how I feel. I stay seated until those two things match up. A stationary feeling and normal optics. Afterwards I feel a bit floaty but that usually goes away in about 30 minutes. If it doesn't, I take a nap and I'm 100% when I wake up. Im not a doctor so... I wouldn't take it as legit medical advice. Im just assuming the ear tugging is enough to jostle my inner ear to level me out. But if you give it a shot, best case... It helps and thats awesome. Worst case, you waste a few seconds tugging on your ears. Its been a simple life saver for me though.

I experienced Vertigo for the first time (I am now 68yo) about a month ago. It was a terrifying experience, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It only lasted about 15 seconds, but felt like a lot longer. I sat on the bed for four hours, unable to move. Since then I've had three more attacks, not quite so bad, but bad enough. I am now doing various exercises to try to prevent it happening again, or at least make the recovery quicker. After an attack it can take me two or three days to fully recover.

Thanks! I had this last week for 3 days after 10km intensive running. Went running yesterday again and it was back. Did my research and I think it's BPPV. I was at the doctor last week and pointed to my head and said "somehow I have the impression something is wrong inside my head on the left." I'm starting to understand what now! I did the Epley manoevre to the left, bit of speculation, became very dizzy and waited till it stopped (saw this in another video of yours!) and noticed a major improvement immediately. Somehow I think the vertical movement of my running triggers it. I found this research study related to that: _Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo after intense physical activity: a report of nine cases_ Next week I have a CT scan of my head in the hospital. ( P.S. A sister from my church send me messages last week telling me that she woke up in the night and the Holy Spirit told her to tell me my problem were the crystals in my ear.. I didn't look into it at that time, but now I think she might have been right. )

I had an attack of BPPV a couple of years ago - I was going to my doctor for something else and while I was there I suddenly started feeling really dizzy and I had uncontrollable vomiting- my doctor was very, very alarmed and so were her technicians. I also could not stand or walk without assistant. So my doctor would NOT let me drive home so she called the local hospital and they sent an ambulance. I was in ER for about 5 hours - since nothing showed up on all the scans, blood tests, and xrays they were very dismissive with me when they released me. I went to see my rheumatologist several days later and he had the exact same attack as I had and he told me I had BPPV.

I've had my first vertigo in my late 20s, after an accident that traumatised my back neck. Almost all vertigo crisis I've had since then happened after I did something that tired very much my shoulders and back neck. It got much worse after spending 8 months in bed in my last pregnancy though and 1,5 year ago, at 6 months post partum, I had a crisis that took like 5-6 months to fully recover... If I wasn't very careful, one wrong move triggered it again. Since then I cannot bent my head down to my right, or I get instant vertigo for some seconds. Which is what I accidentally did yesterday morning, but it lasted longer and I fell on the floor and I've been with nausea since then. Hoping it will not last for months again, since I cannot relax and take my time as a mom of three to recover. 😢

Even though I worked in an ENT office years ago and had often recorded the diagnosis of BPPV on a patient's bill, or scheduled an appt for dizziness, I never really knew what this was like until it happened to me. It had been about 10 yrs since that job, but I did recall the diagnosis, so I looked it up on the internet and did the Epley maneuver myself. I was lucky enough that it worked, though I had spent a few dizzy days before I had thought of trying it. Months later, I had an incident when I stretched my neck up one evening, just stretching, I could feel the vertigo begin immediately. Now, I keep this possibility in mind most of the time.

Love your videos. Sorry to ask another question 11 months after my previous one. But I wondered what does it mean if you suffer vertigo with certain head positions but NO visible nystagmus ? I record my eyes close up during my monthly BPPV attacks that last approx 10 hours each time. During that time I can't look up, or down or sideways without feeling I have just stepped on a merry go round, although oddly my vision becomes more rocky and swimmy rather than fast moving and I can't lock my focus. I feel very fatigued for up to 2 days after this happens, like very brain fatigued. I had a MRI scan last week of my IAMs and nothing sinister was detected. Would vertigo without visible nystagmus denote more cervical vertigo ? I realise goggles may be needed to totally rule out eye movement. I also realise you can't diagnose me, just purely curious if you ever heard of head position vertigo without nystagmus and what that could denote. The ENT did a Dix-Hallpike but I didn't feel dizzy, but that was done outside of one of my frequent 10 hour attacks. Many thanks and keep up the great work. I wish you guys were my doctor.

OMG! The dentist chair is SO on point! This started as me waking up with extreme vertigo where I was violently falling and my heart was pounding. The MOST terrifying experience! And then I’ll spend days feel like I’m “on the verge” of vertigo or dizziness…if that makes sense? A couple of months ago I’m at the dentist getting a root canal and something about the combination of the drill vibrations and being tilted way back (back top tooth) set it off. I began violently dropping and had to stop them till it ended. Gonna try implementing these exercises and tests to see if anything happens. Thanks for trying to help us sufferers!

Thank you for this 8 years later. Spinning CAN LAST more than a couple of minutes! The "afterglow" can make me feel fuzzy, out-of-it,lightheaded for hours or days. Until I learned Epley, spinning went on for a full day or more. Horrible feeling. Disabling. Takes away confidence to drive,or go out at all. I needed to hold onto the wall just to go to and from the bathroom. It recurs less frequently now, but I know Epley. In the beginning, spinning recurred every week or 2 and left me DRAINED.

Then it took over 30 seconds and the room was spinning like 100 revolutions per minute and accelerating! Sweat was pouring from my face and then vomiting. Cat scan showed nothing abnormal in the brain: no stroke no tumors, nothing. They simply diagnosed me with Vertigo and keep me for a day and a half. My mother suffered with severe vertigo. Very scary. I think I have something more serious than BPPV.

The exercises for BPPV are good for a couple of weeks, but remember that you need to find out the underlying cause of the diziness. For me, it was vitamin D deficiency. Make sure that you have the proper level of vitamin D (25-OH-VITAMINA D). And GO TO THE DOCTOR, don't be afraid !!! Anything you have, can be cured faster if you go in time !!!

Having vertigo too & my Vitamin D level is low too. Was extremely low, but now taking a lg. supplement, so maybe it will go up. I don’t get more than a little sunlight b/c I have chronic mono. It gives me chilblains, has made my eyes super-sensitive to bright light, makes me get too cold or hot very easily, & of course makes me tired fast. And I live in northern Indiana, where it gets pretty hot in the summer, & very cold w/ severe windchill in the winter. So I need to be inside in the heat or A/C practically all day, practically every day, resting a lot.

Or what does doing these Maneuvers do to stop them from coming back to the semicircular canals as often as they do now of ever.

I don't know if I have 'vertigo' or not...but out of the blue and w/o notice, BAM!! everything starts going "woo woo woo' in my head, things go black, I feel like I'm going to puke, I'm instantly dizzy, feel like I'm gonna faint, and I absolutely MUST lie down IMMEDIATELY or I KNOW I'm gonna hit the floor if I don't lay down somewhere. It's a terrible feeling. I just have to lay down and push thru those scary symptoms til eventually they subside. Generally, even tho I may be in the middle of making dinner or something like that, I will finally fall asleep for about an hour and wake up (THANK GOD!) feeling ok. Weird, huh?? Same! Just out of no where, i feel like Im a sock in the dryer. Everything spins violently, within 30 seconds i start to get the sweats and nausia and vomiting. Last time, my body actually jerked back like it does the when a roller coaster takes off. I couldnt even crawl without tipping over it was so bad. Laying down helps a bit but as soon as I move or sit up..more vomiting. When the worst of the spinning stopped, i felt like I could just pass out, so i would take a nap whwrever I was laying at the time. The floatiness would last all day until I woke up the next morning. It was really intense. I found that tugging on my ears helps. Ive had five episodes this year but none got to the vomit point since ive started doing this. Typically, the dizziness subsides fairly quickly (within 30 seconds). I feel a bit floaty for a little while after, but that goes away if its not gone within an hour I just take a little nap if I can and when I wake up, I'm 100%. As soon as it starts, I take my earlobe, pull it out and forward. Keep it fairly close to my face, and give it 10 to 15 good firm tugs in quick succession (try it on both ears if youre not sure which one is causing the problem). Im not a doctor, so I wouldnt consider this as legit medical advice. but i figure maybe the ear tugs help jostle the inner ear and help me level out again? Either way, its been a life saver for me. If you give it a shot, just dont pull hard enough to hurt youself but firm enough to let those floaty ear particles know whos boss. Some people get worse dizziness than others, but if its that bad its worth a shot in a pinch. I hope it helps if you try it.

It helped but I was not consistent. My ear is roaring and I get terrible headaches. It all came on suddenly and I do believe it is related to being stressed. Second ENT said it's my sinuses which is causing the pressure and headaches. He wants to do a CT scan now but I'm putting it off because I avoid radiation if not truly necessary. I'm on a round of prednisone now and some nasal antihistamine spray and some antifungal for my right ear that itches frequently. He said often people lose their hearing. That's why recently I couldn't lay back flat and close my eyes to sleep. Freaked me out then the day time dizziness started and the panic attacks together. Felt lately like I've been going to pass out completely..
