In this video I will go over all the reasons why cars catch on fire and how you can make sure you are never in that situation. I am going to cover all potential electrical, maintenance and engine troubles that can lead to a car fire and how you can keep an eye out for these issues and fix them before they are a potential fire hazard.

You missed the main #1 reason for car fires. Being upside down in a car you owe payments on that needs an expensive repair that has great full coverage insurance. I believe that's why there are so many BMW and Mercedes car fires around here. This can also be a reason that people forget to put there car in park on a hill beside a lake as well.

Friday afternoon here where I live, we had massive lightening and thunder storms roll through. Our local news shared a picture of a car parked in the driveway infront of a house that had a bolt of lightening hit the front windshield, broke through , melted the dash, and started a fire with the air bag deployed!! Noone in the car, owner was gone on vacation. I thought a car was safe when lightening hit but this confirms that is not true. Couldn't believe that this could happen, just sharing... have a blessed day.

So unless you have a stuck radiator cap for some odd reason, the coolant cannot build more that 17psi in the cooling system. That's why the cap is there, it's spring loaded and anything over it's rated maximum pressure is going to get releived in the overflow tank, which is not under pressure... So if the overflow becomes overfilled, coolant will just leak out onto the ground. If it leaks close to an exhaust manifold I guess there is a chance but it is going to be difficult to get coolant to burn as it is made in large part of water.
@gameoflife7235

Great info first saw you in the 01-05 Civic head gasket change series! Had no idea coolant could ignite-sources show it's flash point to be only 650 deg F. In my Civic at least, the crimp near the outlet spout securing the aluminum radiator fins to the plastic top piece blows coolant everywhere in summer (definite design flaw) , right onto the exhaust manifold. Lucky it didn't ignite on me lol. Fixed that leak by putting epoxy over the whole area after going through 3 radiators.

Nice video. My 74 bug caught on fire. I then started to notice other bugs with the same burn scar on the engine cover. The oil pressure sender wire touched the distributor condenser wire and shorted out, igniting the insulation, which ignited the fuel line. A Volkswagen design flaw, I suppose.

Good vids mate. Just one more risk of fire (not sure if it was mentioned) is a power steering leak.. Excessive amounts or any amount of power steering fluid leaking can come in contact with exhaust manifold and quickly ignite. Last week I had a p/s hose blow, Pretty sure due to using rubber hose for a repair which wasn't P/s fluid resistant. My bad! But a bulk load of fluid sprayed straight onto my extractors. I'd only just started the car so didn't have much heat in the extractor pipes luckily and I was able to turn the car off before there was enough heat for it to ignite. Over n out cheers.

Years ago, I tried to light various types of engine oil and coolant on fire (in a controlled environment with multiple fire extinguishers at arms reach) and none of it would burn. However I was able to get some used engine oil to burn briefly. I think what happens is, over time fuel can mix with these liquids and make them flammable. But I'm confident they are definitely not flammable in their normal state.

smoke was coming out a little thin white & whispy. No change in heat/temp gauge at all. Stopped car to pay toll & oil pressure gauge went from fine to super low but temp gauge was still fine. Saw thin whispy smoke. Pulled into gas station to get some oil. In 30 seconds, thin white smoke became thick brown smoke. Another 30 seconds & flames were coimng out the hood + flaming debris falling onto the ground below the engine. Then my car burned to death in about 2 minutes or less :(

Dear brother,glad you made a video but I have made an enormous research on this topic and am fighting for the ban of the Hotspark ignition system and the MPFi system which works hand in hand and reintroduce the carburettor system.These modern day cars have a tendency of catching fire.Manufacturers say if everything is perfect such things won't happen but truth which nobody sees is even if everything goes wrong a car shouldn't catch fire .They never happened in the 60's, 70's and 80's when the carburettor system was there. These modern day cars that use the MpFi system requires 50 to 60 psi pressure from an electronic or electric fuel pump unlike the cam driven mechanical fuel pump which requires only 12 to 15 psi.This high pressure fuel supply is yet another provider of fuel in a car fire and for fuel being sprayed on to the wiring through holes such as rat bites or broken down lines.The complicated wiring diagram with so many sensors all under the control of the ECM is also a reason for cars catching fire.manufactures keep saying that ECM cannot take overload of anysort but the sad truth is that it's even not able to bear the load it's supposed to bear at all times.whether fuel comes in contact with this wiring or short circuit sparks come in contact with leaking on non leaking high pressure fuel lines it's only going to be disaster. If governments all across the globe are obsessed with safety rather than pollution control and have these unsafe modern day cars it would save lives.There so many who are dead, so many who are going to die.someday it can be you. How can a woman or a child or an elderly parent run for life in such car fires that too in the present day traffic conditions. The unburnt fuel in the exhaust which was the sole reason why those safe carburettor system was banned could have been overcome by connecting to a simple device like a turbo or super charger which sends more air into the suction manifold during acceleration as per demand. All that is required is correct compression, appropriate CFA ( centrifugal advance) sufficient air into the suction manifold, why then won't the secondary winding of the ignition coil where the 12 volt battery current is amplified to 20 thousand times be able to burn all the intake mixture in the cylinder and why will there be unburnt fuel in the exhaust.. Think think think, fight this stubbornness of heart. Failure is not falling down but it's refusal to get up. I am very good in identifying a problem and in bringing the problem and the solution together but I am unable to succeed in getting this problem solved because the real problem is these governments are not willing to take advice and they're obsessed with pollution control than safety.

My family got lucky, VERY lucky. We’ve been driving our minivan with a failed fuel rail for a FULL YEAR. We’ve smelled gas coming through our HVAC vents but wasn’t sure where it was coming from. When the radiator failed, it was time to visit the mechanic. Yep, they found the problem. I wonder if they knew we were driving the van like that for a full year. Very dumb luck. *The engine design saved our lives. That 3.8L V6 was designed so that the spark plugs and wires were FAR away from the fuel rail. Fuel rail at the top, spark plugs and wires below the valve cover to the sides.

I wish Craftsman tools were still made in the USA, but since they're not Kobalt and Husky have a couple of nice sets.

You want good quality tools at a decent price, buy some tekton tools, they are great for the money. Student discount helps alot. Step it up to teng tools, they are great but more expensive. Tbh, harbor freight has some great tools that do good if not better than the premium brands. Love their floor jacks and breaker bars.

I got an oil/coolant leak from the dealership-had an oil change, car was 2 years old! Then, the air conditioner went out! Done on purpose. Been driving for 30 and NEVER had a dealership vandalize my car!!!

Brake fluid or Transmission fluid can cause fires if it leaks on a hot exhaust system too.
