Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California. It has five hundred miles of dirt roads and 12 wilderness areas. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is very unusual. Throughout the State Park there are about 130 metal statues that you can drive to and see. It has beautiful slot canyons, palm oasis, spring wildflowers, and amazing badlands.
Around this area there use to live Native Americans so throughout the park you can see petroglyphs and old villages. If you are lucky, you may see the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep (we did not unfortunately). Another amazing thing is that 99% of the park is free and there is free backcountry camping.

I’ve lived in California my whole life and I still haven’t seen half of it. It amazes me how diverse the state is in terms of ocean, mountains, desert, woodlands, etc! We are so fortunate! I finally started exploring the desert last year and can’t wait to go back! Such a great trip!

Wow, I've never heard of this state park before, but I love the scuptlures! That dragon serpent is my favorite. It looks so spectacular in that desert environment. Great find guys! That slot canyon hike looks so cool as well. Definitely adding this park to my to-do list!

We stayed in a cute town called Jilian one night (about 45 minutes away). We boondocked out of our truck in Anza-Borrego State park for the other two nights, which is allowed all over the park.

Some of the hikes you can get to with without 4 wheel drive and are right off the paved road. Most of them are four-wheel-drive.

I am sorry for my ignorance. I see everybody carrying a backpack so my question is what do you carry inside?
@TravelingAtoZ
@TravelingAtoZ Жыл бұрын
For a day trip or hike we have a backpack that holds our water bottles or water bladder. In the desert it get really hot and dry so definitely recommend water. We typically bring a day backpack on almost every hike that we do. I like to have my hands free and not have to carry anything. We also usually bring a light jacket, a small first aid kit, and toilet paper. Depending on the hike, we may bring a snack or lunch to enjoy.

Cahuilla is pronounced, "kah-wee-ah". They are still here and have thriving communities. Anza Borrego needs to do better at not utilizing words like "ancient" as if the people no longer exist.
