Marner is in a position to get an 8 year contract like Tkachuk and Dubois. There is no way any agent with a brain cell is telling his client to go UFA instead where he can only get 7 years max and lose 11-12 million dollars.

So if Marner takes it to free agency and the Leafs don't give him any PP or PK time, and give him third line minutes, how does that help him in free agency exactly, If he ends up with about 60pts instead of 99pts? Because he's not playing with Matthews, JT, or Marner. And don't say they can't, because that's what they did to Willie for long stretches of the season and he didn't complain one bit about it, when he was stuck in the third line by himself. Mitch doesn't deserve preferential treatment. He'd be lucky to get 8m per if he did that. Doesn't make much sense at all. It'd be better to give a list of six teams he'd be willing go to and have a deal done for the one he'd be traded too. Apparently that team would be the Leafs considering he doesn't want to leave, in which case the Leafs could pay him 8m per to stay, seeing how he wants to stay so much he won't waive his nm/ntc. If not than that would just go to prove that he's the a-hole people thinks he is, and only thinks about himself first and not the team. That wouldn't be a very good look for a player whose looking to get paid big on his next contract. That would work against him for sure.

Bruins will definitely be a team to keep an eye on, they have a lot of decisions that will be made in the next 16 months. A lot of people bring up the 8 year factor with Marner. Do consider, that if he can get 2 million more per year in FA than on a 8 year extension, he is making 2 million more total in a years less time. Meaning he still has an extra year to add even more to that profit.

as a bruins fan, the way they do contracts i would find it to believe that they would pay Draisaitl in the Pastrnak ball park. you are paying Pastrnak over 13 million, Mcavoy over nine million. who knows what a Swayman extension is going to look like. boston has two bad contracts in Lindholm and Zacha. if Marchand decides to play beyond next year it would be a home town discount in the neighborhood of four million. do the bruins really want to move mason lohari? for years you had chara, bergeron and marchand trying to recruit free agents to boston. i am sure every team does it.

Imagine Marner tries to scr*w over the Leafs by not signing and going to free agency, only to get a serious injury where he can't play anymore and he misses out on 88m from the Leafs or 96m on a sign and trade to play somewhere else. That would be hysterical, wouldn't be the first time greed stopped a player from making big time money but they turned it down. Just ask Klingberg ect who did the same thing. I think Marner will waive. Nothing is going to happen until July 1st. Not until that massive bonus money is paid out and he's pretty much getting paid nothing during the season itself. Any teams interested will at least let the Leafs pay that. Marner has leverage. But if he wants the max term for as much money as he can get then it's trade or bust for him. And if he thinks he gets treated like a god now...not sure how much he'll love having an angry fanbase on his case for an entire season. We'll see how things play out. But I think Marner will take a move over a long season without a contract. Especially after injury killed his point totals last year.
