Top 3 Drills For Perfect Return of Serve in Tennis. Your return of serve is one of the most important elements of tennis and requires regular training to improve it. Not only does it help you neutralise your opponents weapon but it also takes the pressure of your own serve, knowing that you are able to get chances in every game. Want to win more matches? An effective returner should be able to handle fast serves, be balanced and have the ability to recover quickly after the shot.
In this video we break down the top 3 drills to help you become a better returner. We focus on:
1. Split step and first step - helping you push off in either direction with the ability to reach balls that are further away while staying balanced on the stretch.
2. Reduced backswing - when handling power like on a fast serve having a big take-back can be a real disadvantage as timing becomes difficult. The best players prefer compact swings with contact point in front.
3. Reactions - as a returner you have little time to react to the direction of the serve so having lightning reflexes and a quick impulse to turn and reach for the correct side is vital to be able to retrieve the ball.
These drills are designed for those tennis players who want to learn how to return in tennis, how to hit a tennis return of serve and serve return drills.

Smashed the Like button... What about the mental part of RoS? Can you do #4 drill to talk about recognizing the serve as early as possible, and then where you're aiming the return. I think this is the part of the RoS I'm weakest at because I'm completely in 'react' mode. Thanks in advance.

For someone with a one handed backhand, even though most of these are applicable, would you tweak anything about the preparation, especially to switch between drive/block return if on time or slice if late?
