For those who see Werner as us accepting 'mediocrity', I would remind them that we are just entering season two of a complete rebuild. We have to create a significantly larger squad to cope with the added fixtures, and will therefore need signings that we wouldn't necessarily make later in the development of the team. He did relatively well - certainly well enough for Ange to want him to continue. Moan when the window closes rather than as soon as it opens; none of us know what signings are yet to come. I wish him all the best, and I for one am glad that we have a small bit significant piece of the jigsaw in place.

Werner came to Spurs in the middle of the season not having played very much football at all and he immediately slotted in and displayed a real tactical understanding of what Ange wants the wingers to do along with the technical and athletic attributes to actually execute it, this signing is a slam dunk. Imagine what he and Johnson can do after a full preseason with a new number 9 as well
@TalkTottenham1986Ай бұрын
Totally agree mate. I thought he slotted right in and made an impact. The haters are those who just want to jump on the bandwagon, such is social media these days. I’m not suggesting he’s an automatic starter, but I am very comfortable with him being in the squad.

I saw him many times and he was the backbone of Spurs. Nobody messed with any of our players if Dave, with his chest pushed forward was on the pitch. He could hit the ball as well and his passing was underrated as we had so many good passers in those teams. Dave MacKay was phenomenal. His aggression was controlled and used only when needed or beneficial i felt. He would be a perfect no 6 in the present team . Imagine Cuti and Dave in the same team!

Really looking forward to seeing Lucas. Ive watched every game via Russian television and he is an absolute baller. Heads and shoulders above the rest of his team and the opponents. @highlandersteve9953Ай бұрын
It's absurd to me that Timo shows our "lack of ambition" when the obvious goal is to increase depth to help us progress in Europe. What's more ambitious than planning your transfers around going far in all competitions? The alternative, I suppose, is that we find an improvement to our current LW - think we'd be hard pressed to find one.
@thebangonsalesshowАй бұрын
@highlandersteve9953 Picture this scenario: It's the Europa League semi-final and we're a goal down with 20 mins left to play. Timo comes on and at 87 mins a ball is slipped into him - he's one on one with the keeper. Surely he has to score to keep us in the tie! What happens next? And this type of scenario is exactly why signing Timo is not a "low risk" "no brainer" "good bit of business". We don't need backup players or squad depth - we need quality players that will challenge each other for first team status. (And btw, Timo will be a regular starter next season. Levy would not spend £165k a week on a "backup" player)
@highlandersteve9953Ай бұрын
@@thebangonsalesshow If we just get to make up hypotheticals to prove our point, how about this? It's the Europa League semifinal. We're a goal down with 20 mins left to play. Sonny is clearly exhausted and can't make the runs we need him to. Subbed off for Timo, who breaks into a full sprint, gets past their entire defensive line and crosses it in for Richy who buries it. Do you see how it's unhelpful to make up scenarios in which you're correct?

I really don't get the comments being so divisive today. Timo looks class. Johnson has an incredible amount of upside if he ever gets out of his head. I don’t understand the Timo hate. Once the other players figured out how to involve him he created chances. That we didn’t have a striker to convert them is hardly his fault but should be addressed this summer. Yes he needs more composure / confidence when through on goal himself but we have said the same about Son in the past and apart from late in the season when he was clearly knackered this isn’t something you see from Son now. A loan move allows us to focus transfer funds on other signings and it makes sense given that Son will be first choice starter on the left not to spend large amounts on a backup this summer when other positions are higher priority.

Great update Ali, wouldn’t mind if it had been a super long one! I’m curious though, we’ve signed Bergvall because he played Men’s football at 16/17 so was able to develop that bit quicker, is the limiting factor for the kids in England/ U21s the premier league in our coaches eyes then? Is sending them to e.g. the Eredivisie (like Troy Parrott) the answer to getting them to develop faster at a younger age do you think? Is that part of the benefit of the Djurgardens tie up? I think Werner is good business for now. It's unfortunate about some of the fan base and their reactions, however I do think it's evident more than ever at this time, the club has pushed the patience of the fans too far. The cheering at the tottenham hotspur stadium when city scored was drenched in irony in many ways. The fans are disallusioned - they don't see us winning anything, unfornately - any signing which is interpreted (and I'm not saying he his) as a cast-off or has been definately isn't going to cut the mustard. The general feeling I'm afriad I agree with is that Ange - given 2 years might be out of the door in one way or another if we don't make progress fast and tottenham's penny pinching attitude to wages simply doesn't line up when it comes to competing at the top level. We are a bigger club and have more money than Napoli for instance - we should be looking to bring in their stars. No matter the cost Spurs need to financially start to stamp their financial foot down and show their authority if they want to be considered a mainstay amongst the european elite. You would never catch me cheering a city goal or calling for people's heads ever but new money fans have not lived the times many of us have Ali. They pay top whack, they want to see top football, and at this point so do I!

How has he improved the squad since Jan?

Brandon Austin surprised me. He must be fairly highly rated within club. Also 25 is young for a keeper so that’s not an issue. He’s club trained homegrown so big box ticker I guess.

Last bit sounded harsh I always want academy players to do well ! I just haven’t seen him play enough. I assume his distribution must be good or I don’t think they’d give him a shot .
