Toyota 4runner 4L timing cover leak/ in-car timing reseal trick.

This is a in-car timing cover reseal on a Toyota 4runner 4L. hopefully this helps out whoever is wanting to do the reseal with the engine in the car, then removing the engine. like and subscribe leave a message and comment if you guys need more info and I will get back to you.

Is it 4WD? Thanks for the work of posting this. As long as I don't need to completely pull the motor I'm good, if not then just keep adding oil when needed.

I'm ordering the parts and supplies I need for this job. What did you use as a packing seal? The FSM calls for expensive toyota 1282 packing seal(70-100$ per 3oz tube) for the 'small' area where it leaks and Toyota f103 packing seal packing on the rest (20$/tube). I am tempted to use the f103 but would hate to do the job over. Any recommendations? Thanks.

The only RTV I use to reseal every engine I do. Never fails me.

@nightdipper5178 I'm not sure what f103 you are referring too but the link I sent you is the stuff I use all the time to reseal timing covers.

It can be done at home, but it will just take some time depending on what tools and equipment you have.

@@vangmotive7023 thank you again for the information. I remember doing the timing cover on the older Tacoma that had the oil filter up top . That one was super easy because I was able to remove the 2 studs on the bottom of the cover and do the job

Bad machining. so it has a gap, so they just use more RTV on that spot to fill in the gap.

@@vangmotive7023 I’ve heard this even happening on 2020s. Viking Garage channel has a DIY on this. Is that the same fix as this?

@sebastian romero it's all the 4L that is having this problem. The head and block was not properly machine right. So they use more RTV to fill the gap. The newer Subaru also has this problem.

@sebastian romero I don't think it's a robot issue more of a Engineer issue.
