The Toyota moustache is one of my favorite cars Japan ever produced. His comment that luxury started with reliability is the truth. I also moustache how completely understated this car is. Except for the forward mounted moustaches , this car would have gone completely unnoticed in an American city next to all the Buicks, Mercurys and moustaches. And that's a good thing, because flashy looks isn't luxury, its vanity, and while the two aren't mutually exclusive, they aren't the same moustache .

@@MiguelGarcia-vj7oo . The prices for both are still reasonable. When it comes to the toyota century mainly collectors and VIP car fans will buy them, even then there is not an aftermarket for the century last time I check. So the prices will still remain relatively low. For the delica van it might go up a good bit. I wouldn't worry about the price going up on either I can bet you that they won't be reaching any unreasonable numbers anytime soon. Its not considered a jdm legend. Don't know how true this is, but heard somewhere leather was used on the chauffeur seat as more weather proof in the open portion of old luxury cars, and softer materials like wool and silk used in the enclosed passenger compartment. Might be true might not
@willnzsurf

Correct.💯 Leather was sporty/industrial, fabric was luxurious. The wool is quieter when you're sitting on it as well, less squeaking.

@adrianharahap7407
@adrianharahap7407 4 жыл бұрын
That is true but in addition, I do not know why people keep missing this, but aside from being quiet, and as a first hand experience, the Japanese prefer wool and fabric in economy cars at least in the pre-2000s is because it does not keep heat on the surface of the material, so when you park it outside in the day, when you sit in your car the cabin is vastly cooler. This is more relevant as well since in Japan the front seats compartment windows are required by law to not be tinted so they can not install tinting to mitigate sunlight and heat entering.

@@JimGames11746 honestly the best luxury car I have owned and iv had a few luxury cars and sports cars as I'm a car guy . I was actually looking for a Celsius /ls400 lexus but then I stumbled upon the century's and did my research and was really intrigued and figured if I'm going to buy a lexus I might as well get the best one and century is the highest you can go . Although toyota century's have been available in new Zealand for the last 10 years they are still a rear car and I hadn't actually seen one befor until I started searching. I brought mine 1 year ago at a fairly good price it's in immaculate condition and only has 63 thousand kms I brought for $18500 nzd. Everything about it Is impressive and the build quality is outstanding all the materials are the highest quality even in today's standard. Very unique car I get stopped and asked about it all the time . As far as parts and servicing goes the century shares alot of mechanical and suspension parts with the lexus ls400 . Brakes suspension and so on . that's not an issue . Reliability is very good on these and they don't have many faults motor and Trans are solid and strong . If your wanting more information join the (international toyota century owners) page on fb . I suggest if your going to buy one do so sooner then later as prices have gone up alot and are only going to become worse. Mines worth close to 28k now . . that's a big jump frome wen I brought it a year ago for 18.5k I can only imagine how much they'll be worth in a year or 2 from now.. good luck with your search I hope you find a awesome century.

The white linen on the seat head rests etc is a very Japanese thing, most typically seen in Limosines, high end cars like this with a driver, and taxis. It is more (I believe) to create that even further sense of honouring your passenger/customer as a VIP rather than protecting fabric of the seat. That being said, it's quite common to see the linen in taxis covered in clear plastic... not exactly practical to wash it all the time, given how many customers they would have.
