Here's a detailed review of the mechanicals under the hood and body of the latest 2019 Toyota Corolla!
In this video we will take an in depth look at the engine, transmission, braking, electrical, cooling, safety, exhaust, suspension and emissions control systems to see how they work to make the car function and how easy it would be to perform repairs on if owned in the long term.
The Toyota Corolla has been a best seller and the latest generation based on the TNGA platform has brought a vast departure from previous generation in terms of mechanicals. The rear suspension is now independent, the CVT transmission now has a physical first gear and the engine makes use of new technologies such as exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR), electric water pump and thermostat, a cam driven vacuum pump for the brakes, direct and port injection and an electric VVTi-e actuator.

Your review is THE MOST in depth of any that I have ever seen, very unique and no other can compare, especially with your knowledge and your hands-on top to bottom review. There are a few good new car reviewers out there, but it's even fewer who even bother to open the hood if at all... Most of them are just "sales", but you are the only one with the knowledge to back up what you are showing the viewers. 👍👍👏👏👏👌

You are great at this This is the kind of review I expect to see when I consider owning a car for that long. You go into such specific details that no other reviewer even attempts. Of course, know your audience, most people won't even know about any of this, but the engineers and car nerds will definitely appreciate it. I learned more about this car in the span of 11 minutes then I would from any other source. Keep up the good work!

Like any other videos you've done, this is another great one. It is so refreshing to have a review like this since not many people can do this, only those with technical expertise such as yourself can! Besides being very educational, it will become a vital source of information for those who are thinking of buying this car, as well as something to look back on in the years to come from historical point of view - beneficial to much wider audiences than you think. Thank you once again for another great video and keep up the good work.

@@speedkar99 You're right, however most come to see your channel are technical minded (as it could be seen from all the comments that has been posted) and those could also advise others who are not that technically minded when want help to buy a Corolla. I am really grateful for videos like this. My disappointment for this engine, out of all plastics, the plastic cam cover. GM started this trend and Toyota kind of followed, which is a shame. I currently run a 3S-FE Avensis which has covered over 410,000km without any overhaul. Everything metal, that's why it was possible. Many thanks once again for series of great videos!

DAMN! This was an awesome and unique review. I haven't seen mechanical reviews yet and I think this is way better to watch than those other reviews that are flooded on YT about "features". SavageGeese was the only one that actually looked under the hood and body but it was often a bit brief. Great channel too! You hit every question and explained it even with those highlighted diagrams. I always wonder how some of these new cars are to work on and this has so much damn plastic. Looks overly complicated for a Toyota. Keep up this style of reviews, subscribed for more. I think you just tapped into in untouched market on YT. Good luck! Do more Toyotas please. Maybe a Tacoma

Graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree and while they did teach me fundamentals this is what I needed to supplement my studies. I worked on cars to pay my way through school, but nothing in the car community comes remotely to this. Thank you so much. I've personally been trying to compare shaft diameters of various vehicles and study engine clearances and chamber sizes to simulate in ANSYS, but I havent found any blueprints. I guess to investigate what would justify engines or transmission types. Maybe you can do something about that?

I too am a mechanical engineer. We don't learn this stuff in school, so I learned by doing this type of stuff on the side. As far as finding blueprints...those are usually company secrets...the easiest way is to actually reverse engineer components and measure them yourself (I have a series of videos on teardowns).

A type of review I never expected to see or even thought of. But now I see one, it is pretty cool to know the mechanical aspects of a new car. Random question: How'd you'll feel if a company decides to donate a brand new car, for the sole purpose for you to tear it apart thoroughly?
@speedkar99

Yep I'm trying something different...a more technical review. That would be awesome if I could get a car to tear down! But which car company would ever give me that...haha

Excellent review, thank you, would like to see more. You mentioned about 200,000 km in your review, in your opinion, will the CVT last that long on this car?
@speedkar99
@speedkar99 4 жыл бұрын
CVTs have been around for almost two decades (Toyota is no exception with thier hybrids). The last generation Corolla had a CVT and it's going to be the mainstream. I feel that it could at least last as long as a traditional automatic - but - you gotta change the fluids - which is a chore on this tranny. Time will tell though, the idea of having a physical first gear is new, and I personally didn't like its noticable engagement when driving this car off from a stop.
@swllz
@swllz 4 жыл бұрын
Toyota s CVT has a lunch gear in first gear which reliefs the strong pressure applied to CVT belt, that design by itself will outlast all other CVTs by a long shout , it will be longest lasting CVT, still not last as long as tranditional auto trans

Thanks for the nearly forensic analysis.This car is certainly a technological leap forward from earlier Corollas which makes it so unfortunate that they shrunk the interior and lowered the headroom so much on the new hatch . Canada needs and deserves a new Matrix aka the Corolla Touring Sports they sell in Europe.

Best car review by FAR! Fantastic job, sir! That being said, I am deeply saddened by the trend of "electronically-controlled" electronics, plastic, stamped steel and brittle alloy engines designed to fall apart, fail and break down with normal use. It makes little sense to outright _own_ such an overcomplicated vehicle with so *many* possible fail points. As long as they continue to sell gas, oil and tires, I will continue to drive my 33 year old Suzuki Samurai past _loads_ of broken-down, more "modern" cars.
@speedkar99
@speedkar99 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You definitely have a traditional view on the automotive industry. Fuel efficiency and safety regulations are driving manufacturers to squeeze as much power, economy and weight out of thier vehicles so the "decontenting" you see is basically eating up any potential that the vehicle already had.

The Mitsubishi Mirage with the 5 speed seems a lil more diy friendly. They also have 100,000 mile warranty and costs way less. Not my 1st choice, but hey, if the Corolla/Civic are getting this complicated, then maybe its time to find a more practical kinda car.
