I have this car and like most modern cars there is no room in the engine compartment to work on thing. I hate these damn over-engineered tin boxes. I hate the idiot engineers who have never in their lives had done a single maintenance on a car. They should have to work for 6 months as a mechanic before being allowed to sit in front of a CAD. Then 2 weeks every year as an reenforcement against their built-in, natural stupidity.

I agree 100% on the engineering aspect! Unfortunately if you are working on a prius. The best way to access anything is to remove the entire wiper motor assembly and upper front cowl at a minimum and is required just to change the spark plugs and coil packs. Should you have brake problems and need to get at the brake pump motor, you may as well pull the entire hybrid engine to accomplish this task. May the force be with you!! Thanks for looking!

Curious why tightening the water pump would help the ac on a car with an electric ac pump

Running the A/C increases the temperature of the gas hybrid engine, a slipping waterpump belt also increases the temperature of the engine. Modern gas engines have multiple temp sensors. Modern cooling systems have multiple temp sensors.

The first generation 2001 to 2003 Prius has an engine driven air conditioning pump.
