This is the first one of your recovery’s that made me nervous. My son was saying it has to be successful or they would not put it on KZfaq, I told him that you could lose both vehicles down the cliff and the video would show it and how you got both back out .

When the trail gets tough, Rory and Mater get going.

The long straps & ropes needed to get the Toyota up, difficult, but you finally did it. The feat of going back down though & coming up in reverse (with an audience) was an eye catcher & evidence the vehicle has torque, plenty of power & a most skilled driver. Your rescue partner is an ace too.

I have a high school buddy that likest to collect insects. He was able to find a job that pays him to do that. You have found a way for people to pay you to drive some of the most wonderful 4x4 trails in the southwest. Thanks for sharing.

Driving up Hell's Gate backwards is always twice as much fun as just driving straight up it!

I was driving through UT, AZ, and NM for the first time ever a few months ago. I thought "Are those trails up there? I bet that'd be fun". I get back home and start looking that up. You can guess what I found. I had no idea this world existed. It's been a lot of fun watching your channel, Matt's channel, and Paul's channel. You all possess amazing talents in your field, and are a real joy to watch. Different terrains, different problems from different markets, different approaches, but all genius, at least to me. I wanted to mention that I think it's great that your daughter likes to do recoveries with you too. My daughter was a bit of a thrill seeker and we did some pretty cool stuff growing up as well. It was time well spent and we'll always have it. When I did that driving route I went right by your shop, but as I said I had no idea. Next time I do it I'd love to stop by and get a shirt, maybe even say hi, and possibly tell you that "that's not how Matt does it". :) The gf and I are making more of a "tour" plan for that area and Moab is on our stop list, because beautiful. My truck though was completely unusable however, and I had to fix it (there was a high pressure line leak for the air horn). It's fixed now and we're planning a trip. Have you ever seen a horse that has been trained to bow? Dips low on its front legs while lowering its head. Trail Mater needs to be able to do its own form of that.

The fact that you do all this isn’t the craziest part, it’s that you do it with a manual transmission. That takes a certain finesse that is incredibly difficult.

I was going up hells gate in my JLUR and with the nose up and leaning to the right the engine started sucking oil into the intake from the PVC on the rear right valve cover. The motor started knocking and missing I thought I blew a rod or something. Well I got winched out, and we were lucky we were not hydrolocked. It restarted and smoked most of the way out. We did the PVC fix that puts another PVC in the front of the engine. It was quite a smokey show. Always love your videos.
