Am I the only one who's disapointed with the clip launcher? 13 is the first pro version I ever bought (I used 11 and 12 free in the past) and I pretty much bought it just for that new feature. I thought I'd be able to do live looping in Waveform using different instruments (audio and midi), but after hours of trying, there is no way to pre-set the length of the clip you wanna record in a given slot. So if you play a guitar or a drum kit, you will not be able to press "stop recording" on time, there will be empty bars in the clip, so you'll need to edit the length afterwards for it to loop properly. I've seen a lot of videos/tutorials of people doing live looping in Ableton and they pre-set the length of their clips, they can also map a midi signal (like a sustain pedal) to make actions like "stop recording + arm next track"...don't think you can do this in wf13. So from my understanding, the clip launcher only works if you have pre-recorded clips/loops, which you drag and drop in slots. Useful to create arrangement but that's it.

Waveform has been a blessing. I currently have 12.5 but I am not sold on 13 yet. The automation color looks pretty cool tho!

I’m a Logic guy, but tried Waveform out of curiosity and your YT videos. It seems to do everything most people need, but it takes a little investment to get used to the workflow. Some layout elements remind me of Ableton, but you can easily adjust the layout to be more “Logic like”. I keep expecting Waveform to take off in popularity - and I’m sure it’s a growing audience - but it hasn’t seen the hype of BitWig or Reaper. I wonder why?

Great overview! I hear some VSTs are still glitchy in Tracktion 13. Its a shame when you've spent good money on a few VSTs and they don't perform well in Tracktion. I've never had that problem in Reaper, so I guess I'm sticking with Reaper!

I used Waveform Free back in 2021 or 2022 & i wasn't used to the workflow. So i came back to Mixcraft 9. Now, I've upgraded to Mixcraft 10.5. I'm willing to give Waveform Free a second chance. But this time as Waveform 13 Free, Mixcraft 10.5 Pro Studio & Waveform 13 Free / Waveform 13 Pro will be an amazing pair of DAW's to use to create music. The new features like the updated UI. New instrument, Changable themes & other are such amazing new features in Waveform 13. Thank you for covering up about Waveform 13. And as always, Keep on creating 👊👍.

I think if they had a built in note name (with preset names) for midi notes, it would be cool, right now I am using a plug in for that, which actually works just was a bit complex to set everything right the first time, I think its Waveform is awesome even in the Free version. Unless it had some additions that would make it easier without needing to add plug ins to have the same effect would be cool for some of what some of us do. I just use it in combination with Propresenter to be able to mix songs together & yet be able to control the slides in Propreseter with Midi (it replaces Ableton live for me as their Free version has limit # of tracks you can add and now that I am very familiar with it, everything is easy to do for me in it)

I have no use for the clip launcher as it's pretty much paint by numbers level of creativity (loops are for kids). But the launcher can be hidden and ignored very easily. However the WF Pro upgrade was well worth the price for me. The new UI options have allowed me to create a color theme that is perfect for my taste and I can use it for hours on end without eye fatigue. Custom Track and MIDI Note colors are now possible. Support has been very quick to react and fix any bugs found in 13. I'm a very happy Waveform 13 Pro user and it will be my main DAW going forward.😀

Thank you very much for this video. I have a question regarding native compatibility with an Akai Apc 64. The launchpad pro mk3 is natively supported, however not seen in the list that the Apc 64 is included in this list. I suppose to use it I will have to configure it? I suppose the use of faders is also configurable? Where should I configure in Waveform pro 13 a controller not included in the native configuration list? Thank you in advance for your answers.

Thanks for the overview of the new version. As a user who has been using the Pro version since v10, I cannot justify the $99 upgrade price tag for this new version's offerings. While I am happy with the things I can do in v12, this release confirms that my switch to Reaper 7 last year made so much more sense with its $60 price of admission (even thought there was a steep learning curve). I like Waveform and it's always made sense to me since I found the v7 release years ago, but for my projects these clips and virtual instruments don't make sense and do not add value to a product that is now priced as double to what I used to pay for version upgrades.

In a sale which is typically 40 percent off the upgrade is 60USD for Waveform and you get two years of updates including v13.5. How is that bad value in todays economy or any economy?

I have loaded mp4 karaoke file to this waveform to make transpose pitch key. I do not know how to save this file after editing back as video mp4?

I'm fine with Waveform 12, as I already have the Wavetable instrument by itself, so I find no real use in upgrading. Really looking forward to that automation, lol! One of the things they should've updated is the piano roll, in my opinion. It's pretty hard to work with compared to apps like Ableton or FL.

Unfortunately the manual for Waveform remained as it was since 2021. They only added a little bit for the Clip launcher... And unfortunately as it seems there will be no further patches for Waveform 12.5 Pro users. If you need to get rid of bugs for features that you already payed for, you will have to pay again buying Waveform 13 Pro. But at the same time you will buy new bugs that will be resolved in version 14 Pro... for that you'll need to pay again... and so on... I don't like that business philosophy... Waveform is a great DAW... but...

Good overview, thanks. Unless they've fixed some of the more irritating bugs, I might give Waveform 13 a miss though. The clip launcher I doubt I would ever use, and I have enough (rarely used) freebie synth vsts as it is.

I think for a lot of the existing Waveform user base, the clip launcher won’t be a factor. Some will enjoy it but I think this feature is going to bring new users into waveform which is probably what they are targeting with this release.

Hi, can you please guide me how to setup the count-in in Waveform 13 Free? I cannot find it anywhere.

If you have the bottom control panel expanded, on the left side of it you'll see a menu and one of the items is "Click" go to that, click and then go into the sub-menu called "Count-in" and in there you'll be able to select how much of a count in you want. Alternatively if you have the bottom control panel minimized then you can right click on the metronome icon and you'll see the count-in submenu there.

Cool stuff, but since I've moved to hardware and only use Waveform 12 for finalization, plus the upgrade cost is stupid, it's not worth it FOR ME. This will rock many folks world, though.

Hi Excellent vids.I paid for waveform 11 and now using 13 free but I read of somebody says on the free version you don’t get support from them. Is that true? I have problem with not fully loading a video,about 90 odd percent loaded and I’ve tried to get in touch them and get no response. Thanks for all your vids,

I don’t really know about their support. I’ve never needed it. I think I saw them post somewhere that they are active in the Tracktion section of the KVR forum. You can try to ask your question in there to see if it gets answered by them or someone that might have also had a similar issue.

I’ve been experiencing really bizarre buggy behaviour in Waveform free, I’ve been thinking about upgrading but if these bugs continue with the pro version then I’m going to have to search elsewhere unfortunately which is a shame because I really enjoy using this DAW, has anyone else experienced this? Is pro as buggy as the free version?

Yeah, it's like the developers have given up making the DAW as optimised as the other ones. In some projects, I get lag spikes from racks and 3rd-party plugins that I've fully deleted a while back, showing up in the CPU window [greyed out]. Every update they do, the DAW is still sluggishly painful to use at times, [although not as much as before] which is infuriating, because some of its workflows like macro automation and sidechaining make it much easier to use than REAPER's, in my opinion. But with fundamental things, the software just crumbles and still needs brushing up. And in spite of these issues, it's still my favourite DAW, just because it gets some workflows right, which some other developers don't work on improving. That's how much I like it more than Cubase, Pro Tools, Logic, REAPER and Studio One, etc.

Upgrades used to be cheap, even if you skip versions, like 39 or 59 usd. Now I don't even see in my account how much I would need to pay to up from 11 to 13. I switched to Bitwig.

I agree. They tell you that. It's free and then they shut it all down and force you to pay for an upgrade. None of the upgrades even mentioned groove doctor. And it goes from being free to literally $999.99 usd. Not to mention distrokid is in a world of shit right now They keep people's royalties and have the right in their contract to give the royalties to anyone they want. And this guy keeps trying to market for them. I like zayne but I think he got involved with the wrong sponser this go around. Not to mention their customer service will literally tell you that they cannot talk to you unless you have actually paid for the service. So if you get the free version they literally tell you to get bent and to give the money if you want to talk to them.

Ok, they have removed options from the free version in waveform 13, such as "Return to start edition on stop", which is now only available in the pro version.

Interesting. I just switched over to view features that are only available in free and you're right I couldn't find that but when I switch back to Pro it's there. I wonder if you go to your Waveform 12, open it up and in settings, go to the general tab then at the top export your settings. Next open up Waveform 13 and go to the general settings tab and import those settings. It might work. When I went to the free mode I was able to use my pro settings and return to start on stop was enabled.

Thanks for answering but it does not work. Only appears if I switch to the pro version demo in options/advance/Feature. If I save the project and then return to the free version, the behavior is saved but the option does not appear in the menu and you couldn't change it without going back to the pro version. It is not ideal but it is a solution. But this makes me wonder what else they have removed or are going to remove in the future.

One other thought. Should Tracktion be developing and releasing plugins and VSTs? I say no. Apple/Logic delivers 111 plugins and 78gb of samples and packs - you can;t compete with Apple’s development budget. A better strategy would be to partner with a major plugin company….Native Instruments is the biggest, and set the standard with NKS. They might not be interested, but there are others that already have virtual instruments and FXs. If Tracktion embraces a certain 3rd party plugin leader, with tight integration, it’s a better co-marketing approach to expand audience adoption.

I make music. It doesn’t matter to me which company develops what plugin or what their budget is. If a company makes tools for me to create music with and I enjoy those tools then I use them.

Zane I am not upgrading I don’t use waveform anymore it will not work with more than one screen I have 3 screen it’s unusable cubase 13 and CWBL and cakewalk next works fine Customer service non existent Traction really need to get there act together if they want to keep customers Waveform does not come up at all in most DAW compassion’s on you tube not mentioned I wonder why Shame they do have some good features and it easy to use

Very good free software but I can't stand the interface. I'm a Cubase veteran, why doesn't it have a standard windows interface like Audacity, Cubase etc? File, Edit, at the top left etc. It almost feels like a DOS program. Looking for every option is a headache. It's like working on a different operating system. Learning to edit, cut paste and more around clips is like pulling teeth. EDIT: I've just seen some standard windows menus are on the bottom left. WHY design it like this?
