I work at TSC. The wire is galvanized, it won’t rust. I totally agree with everything else you said. I tell customers to paint the whole thing before you assemble it. It makes painting the inside earlier. Good luck.

Manufacturer recommendation is to nail a 76x43” wood frame underneath (I got 3x2 boards) to stabilize it when you want to move it around. I think the added weight helps against winds. (Weighs 150lbs, not 300lbs as stated)

The nest box dividers are in backwards. That’s why they’re falling out. There should be notches on the wall above the nest door where those will sit in and be a little ore stable. The slant of the nest dividers should face onto the coop.

Do you open/close the hen house door every day? We have this model with three girls… I’ve been closing them in the hen house every night but I think they’re getting confused. Sleeping in the nesting boxes, etc
@LayneFamilyFarmstead
@LayneFamilyFarmstead 3 жыл бұрын
I close them up every night. Lots of ground predators here so it’s a requirement. It’s gonna be hard to stop them from sleeping in the nesting boxes. Put something up in front of them to keep the chickens out. Otherwise, long term, their urine and rain, and humidity is going to cause the floor in the henhouse to buckle and fall. I keep meaning to make a new video on what the coop looks like a year later with 6 hens using it. I ended up buying some nesting boxes from tractor supply and installing them in the gaps between the roosting bars and attaching them to the frame. Keeps the floor from being wrecked.

How is it holding up? Did you need to do any modifications since you set it up?
@LayneFamilyFarmstead
@LayneFamilyFarmstead 3 жыл бұрын
Actually yes. I plan to make a follow up video. But simply put, the floor for the nesting boxes is utter trash. It soaks up moisture like you wouldn’t believe and then will warp and fall out. I’d recommend either reinforcing it. Or pulling the dividers out, put a 2x4 over top of it and making your own nesting boxes.

How did you heat it this last winter? I got the same coop so I have a billion questions.
@LayneFamilyFarmstead
@LayneFamilyFarmstead 3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t heat it. I added extra bedding and kept the ventilation window closed and my girls handled it very well. For me, it’s just too small and cramped in general for me to feel confident heating it.

You’re welcome. If you have any other questions lmk. My big issue with the coop is that the floor of the nesting boxes is fragile. So if you can, replace the floor otherwise moisture will cause it to warp

When it rains, the wood swells just a little. I don’t always check the latch to see if I actually secured it. Best guess, I failed to fully lock the door and one of the buggers got in.

How do you like the coop after having it a year?
@LayneFamilyFarmstead
@LayneFamilyFarmstead 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve got a few complaints. I’ll eventually get around to making a video about it. But, the floor of the nesting box is far too flimsy. The environment, excrement, and just general use will warp it. I also think the built in run feels a little flimsy. But full disclosure, I’ve moved the coop several times since setting it up. It’s really hard to keep level too.

Tell us how much you like it in a year...I bought this coop to use as a breeding pen. I've owned chickens for a couple of years now and I would highly recommend NOT buying this coop, it's such a piece of crap, I don't even feel like it's safe to keep my chickens in over night. What a waste of money. It's so flimsy A toddler could break it.
