Excellent video. I planted a vanilla strawberry hydrangea tree this year. It has grown huge panicles which are magnificent. But we have had MANY heavy rain storms and the tree looks SO sad and floppy. You have given me hope that I can remedy the weak branches and help the tree so it will have smaller panicles making it less vulnerable to drooping. It is pouring again and I'm hoping none of the branches have broken. I've been trying to get out there between storms to shake the water from the blooms but I didn't get to it the last time. I love the huge blooms but I want my tree to survive.

Hi Sudha, You can dig it up now and repot it in a large container. The weather is very chilly this week so make sure to place the pot in a protective location (i.e. right up against the wall the house where it could get some radiant heat) and be careful not to damage those swelling leaf buds. Also, don't prune the stems until May long weekend. I hope I don't sound "mean" in the process. :-) The orchid video...the orchids are still blooming. I was going to wait until the blooms die and do one video about re-poting orchids and etc. Happy gardening Sudha!

I understand its recommended one cut a branch/stem at an angle so rain water is easily shed. ...
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Lynn Marie Sullivan for this info. 💚💚💚 In our northern cold garden zone, I have always done straight cuts to reduce the amount of surface area exposed to the elements….thus, the cut will heal faster and reduce transpiration. Never knew that angled cuts “were” recommended…to provide slopes for rain water to slide down? How interesting. I wonder how well this works at “shedding” excess rain water. This goes to show that there are multiple ways to do many things in the garden. Happy gardening! 💚💚💚

Hi Sarah, Yes, the hydrangeas in pots all stay outside for the winter. I will move them to the southwest side of the house just before the 1st frost. The smaller 10”-12” pots may have to be taken into the garage or tucked away on the porch for some added protection. 💚

Hi Tracy I have been following you on my tv four about a year. I have learned a lot from you. I have a limelight standard hydrangea . I leave in north Texas. We got below 20 dergees a couple of time/ My other hydrangeas are producing green leaves. I was concerned because I didn’t see any sign of life in my standard. I got a knife and scraped the bark and saw no green.Is this a sign that I have lost it? Please and thank you. I don’t have in my new glasses yet so I can’t really see my errors so please forgive my grammar.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Corliss Taylor, If you scrap the bark and see no green then you may have lost it. That is so sad as hydrangea standards are so expensive here in our area…many of them go for almost $200 per small plant. Hopefully the roots are still alive and send out new shoots? 🤞🤞🤞

Hi Jeanette, Cuttings take an entire season to root...if you do this early enough in late winter (or early spring), you should have them cuttings root by August. In your warmer zone, your have much longer growing season so you can certainly root as early as March and have it well rooted by July. All the best.
