Depression hurts, and it hurts even more when the people around you see you not showering, wearing the same clothes, not caring about the things you used to care about, it’s hard, and to them you’re just “lazy”, and what they don’t know is that you’re trying but sometimes you need a little help and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Some advice from my own experience with depression, for what it’s worth. Be very careful who you tell and even more careful who you ask for help from. There’s nothing worse than being at lowest point of your life, so low you humiliate yourself by asking for help, then seeing your request refused. Being rejected when you’re at your most vulnerable isn’t very pleasant, at all. Personally I wish I’d never mentioned it and just continued to struggle on, because as bad as it was then it’s nowhere near as bad as it is now. I used to think I was at rock bottom but I’m so much worse now, and I look back to those days and think if only you realised how lucky you were.

Also, try to force yourself to enumerate all of the positive things about your life every morning. Even the smallest things. Use your vivid imagination to reflect on how your life would be if you didn't have those things. Your mind is locked into a state only noticing negative things which is most likely what's causing your sense of despair.

Staying busy cures a lot of issues. Too much time contemplating risk mgmt, what ifs….just live life at a fast, healthy pace. If you don’t you will eventually rationalize that it’s too dangerous to leave the house

I have a lot of experience with this. don't wanna talk forever so i'll just say something quick. the "throwing down the stairs" analogy is right. people who are depressed (like myself) don't value what they have. they need to take more responsibility in their lives often times. My "depression," comes from the fact that my father provides me everything so nothing has value.

Depression is such a terrible experience, because a person feels so hopeless in that he may feel that his death will be the solution to this matter, and I think that the reason for it is the era in which we are. Depression did not exist in the past, everything became easy, people became empty from the inside, there is no meaning in their lives, they just wake up sitting on the phone and social media throughout their day.

My friend's dad was a fighter pilot in the Gulf war. He was a reckless type of guy who enjoyed living on the edge like many fighter pilots do and one night crashed his car with his two kids in the back seat. They were completely unharmed but the guilt of what could of happened to his kids altered his belief in himself and made him feel like he was worthless. I asked him how he dealt with it and he said every man has to get over himself at some point. I didnt understand what he meant at the time but 15 years later iam beginning to. Every man needs to realize they arent perfect and will make mistakes but get over it because the past is dead. The next move is the only one that matters

life is a gift... life is an opportunity... today's world offers greater opportunities than ever! Information, no matter what are your passions, has never been more accessible and inexpensive! i fractured my thoracic spine in a motorcycling event and had to reinvent myself so that I could keep inspired while rebuilding my physical abilities. 14 years later I have the vast majority of my physical abilities back and have learned many more 'mental' pursuits, as these areas of study made sense to counter the physical pain and challenges of the titanium rods and screws inserted in support of the spine.

After dealing with chronic depression for years, I developed a few rules for myself for how to take care of myself while I am depressed: 1. Use whatever willpower you have to just get up and do something. Even something small. Dishes. Whatever. Depression is anti-momentum - you can fight it with action 2. Don't make any big decisions, your mind is in an altered state 3. Go to bed early These work pretty well for me. It never "fixes" it, but it gets me through. Your rules might be different. Mine take the guess work out for me. Good luck to anyone out there fighting it

My tips for another dealing with anxiety or depression is: 1) change your diet - eat real Whole Foods and cut out all fast foods and junk food 2) add probiotics into your diet. Studies have shown that poor gut health affects your mood and causes depression. Eat yogurt (with low sugar like Greek yogurt and then add real honey instead), kimchi, sauerkraut etc. 3) do intermittent fasting (eat within 8-10 hrs every day. It’ll help you lose weight and will reduce your anxiety and depression 4) work out, lift weights and/or join a boxing gym/jiu jitsu, and do it 2-3 times a week consistently. You’re depressed because of your circumstances. Everyone needs someone to love (whether it’s friends, pet, or a partner), something to strive towards (career and/or physical goals), and someone to hope for (look forward to). Good luck, don’t make any excuses and put in the work. Worst case scenario, you’ll be in great shape. What do you have to lose?

Everyone, please listen. Go to your doctor and ask them to do a full-on blood work, specifically aiming for vitamin D3. Many people who are lazy, depressed, feeling tired and so on are lacking enough vitamins in their body that it needs to keep you energized and happy. Doctors, neurologist and many other specialists don't tell you this. Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 are essential. Talk to your doctor and if they try to bluff you off, demand it or find another doctor. A healthy range is around 30, many people that are depressed and tired are way below that average. Please do some research, and ask for this blood work. It does not hurt to not atleast try. Depression sucks. I know from personal experience, it's been with me for many many years, but thank God I ran into the Vitamin situation. You need to take over 5k UDs, doctors don't like to tell you this unfortunately. Edit: highly recommend to read about this, and even youtube it. Also, make sure how much UDs you're taking, because if you're taking too little, you won't feel anything, but if you take way too much, it can cause toxicity. Make sure to talk to your doctor.

Severe clinical depression is different from what you're describing. We all feel down, and out. That's normal depression. People commit suicide due to severe clinical depression, and it's not because their life is easy, or difficult, it's because they lack the chemical coping mechanism that wires the brain. If throwing suicidal people down the stairs was an effective treatment, the majority of them would line up in a heart beat and let you throw them down the stairs as a cure.

I think one challenge in modern life is its hard af to make progress. The workforce is extremely unstable, and oftentimes no matter how hard or smart you work, its tough to rise due to politics. Dating for modern man is hard. Apps have turned this into a woman's choosing market and often average lookimg guys cant get any dates. You can become better looking but its still hard. People also don't have friends. Social media has changed what it means to be social. The modern world is easier than the past in terms of getting food, shelter etc but some of the invisible elements of life like love and friendships r harder now.

When you're depressed, it's as though you lose the ability to feel... It doesn't matter what someone tells you, it's as though you're broken and incapable of thinking and feeling what you're supposed to. That guy falling down the stairs would likely see it as something that will push him closer to taking his life. The only thing I can think of that can take it away, in my experience, is knowing Who your Creator is and spending time in things like Salah at night, long periods of prostrating and private invocations, also doing good for others (especially those who are less fortunate) or spending time with children and nature (thing that are worldly manifestations of the Beauty and Purity of our Creator). In a nutshell, things that bring you closer to your 'Source' - the Creator. Exercise is also excellent because of the hormones that are released but that alone doesn't work, not more than quite superficially.

Firas speech is indicative of a person with a shallow understanding of Depression, and never really experienced even a mild depression himself. I understand that he is trying to help but this not the way to go, it is actually causing negative effects on the depressed. Pep talk is the worst way of (helping) a depressed person.

5:10 "depressed people compare themselves with others" that's funny, because your advice is to compare ourselves with our forebears lol I don't disagree with what you are saying, coach, gratitude can do wonders for treating depression, but it's simply not that easy as this solution implies... Back when I was depressed it felt like I was living in another world, no argument, reason or solution could even get to me. The same way healthy people can't understand people who are depressed, the depressed cannot understand healthy people's reasoning. Imo, exercising gratitude has nothing to do with comparing the luxuries we're lucky to have now, neither looking at people who are worse than us, as this becomes a greater problem: "There are people who are even worse off than me, I should really feel grateful for what I have, why the fuck am I depressed??" - depression does not have a physical cause, it's more complicated than that, and the solutions are also not so simple.
