In grade school I took a huge liking to wolves after reading "Julie of the Wolves", got my best friend into it and we'd pretend to be wolves during recess/after school care. Difference was, we A) were grade schoolers, and B) we knew 100% we weren't wolves or former wolves; we just liked playing pretend. It's so insanely bizarre how grown-ass adults believe they're part animals. I feel some of these people have been through some real trauma and this is a form of escapism for them.

I used to play wolf too or horses up until around 16 give or take 17 but unlike these loons my friends and I knew it was jus tplay! Though we stopped being friends she became... weirdly obsessed with live role play.. and I thought man.. she's takin it too far! LOL I'm glad I got out! O_O I once had a friend of mine ditch me for her My little Ponies friends! They would go to a place to meet up and theyy'd be in costume! LIKE?!? And they seirously took on these personalities! This si why I have such a problem with that show! I also met a man once who thought that he's love of MLP made him so.. I duno cool to me? Like?!? !I hve 0 interest in you! He'd go on about "I imagine that Fluttershy locks her doors up and then cranks rock music" I was like? Um? WOW! I'm sorry but there is a right and wrong way to like shows! LOL! Ditching your friend who still has a foot in reality isn't it! She made her choice to pick the losers that she went with. I still don't get it! I mean like?!? She'd show me the pics from it and I was like I am beyond confused?! I've seen women and men I'm sure who got so obsesed with cartoon characters or even movies too! LIke Lord of the Rings etc. But I knew one woman who literally just was dressed up as ARiel 24 7 she literally lost her identity! Like? Wow! Thse are stupdi cartoons or movies don't waste thousands of dollars on the character! It's so insane! LIke?!? Reality has no place in their lives!

Just wanted to clarify this as a furry. Therians/otherkins and furries are very different. A therian/otherkin believes they're a being or creature other than human. A furries are people who think animals with human characteristics (speaking, walking on 2 legs, living in houses ect) are cool There are some 18+ stuff in the community, but for the most part it's family friendly (kinda like anime). Fursuiting (the animal costumes) are weird, but it's kinda the point. It's meant to be fun, kinda like cosplay and is a way for some people who are mentally challenged to feel confident. Also, a lot of people in the community are young (15 - 20), so a lot are still growing up so the cartoon-y part of the costume's meant to be playful and childlike

Please don't begin to believe that this is what society is truly like because the vast majority are actually regular human beings like you and me. Tiktok is just a very toxic, weird place and all the special snowflakes gather together there and yell their issues out loud. Which is why it's easy to get the impression that society has become insane. But of course, these individuals are not the whole society/humanity :)
@TGCid01
@TGCid01 Жыл бұрын
@@nastiavolynska while I definitely keep that in mind, we can't look at this in isolation. We're seeing in real time how pervasive this gender ideology has become. It starts on outlets like tik tok, but this has made it's way into schools where the children are being taught this alongside things like the law of gravity as if it's fact. Even aside from that, the impressionable youth consume it on social media and they will soon enough become propagators of these very ideas. It all spreads like a contagion. Very slippery slope.

Hey… So, absolutely NO hate on this at all, but I just wanted to let you know something. A furry is a person who likes to create anthropomorphic animal characters. (Zootopia and Disney movies in general are good examples of antho animals.) Furries do NOT identify AS their fursonas (anthropomorphic animal character), they simply just want to bring it to life. This can be through costume creation, art, music etc! (The inappropriate side of the community is looked down upon by the vast majority of the group.) A THERIAN is a person who spiritually or phycologicly (NOT PHYSICALLY! If a person thinks they are physically an animal, that is a mental illness called lycanthropy.) identifies as an earthan being. (Extinct or alive.) This can be though past lives, spiritual connections, believing you were born in the wrong body, etc. As long as you experience other than human behaviors and instincts, you can be considered therian. Some therians do what’s called Quadrobics. Quadrobics is an athletic activity that requires one to run on all fours. (Bear crawling) They do this to help themselves feel more connected to their theriotype(s) (A theriotype is the animal they identify as). This is the same with masks and collars, etc. Some furries are therians (like me), and some therians are furries. But not all furries are therians, and not all therians are furries.

I used to identify as voidkin (which is another type of transpecies) as a teen and it was the worst time of my life. I was suffering from major depression and was often suicidal so I found comfort in not being a human but, in “fact”, void (literally just void, not even a real being with a body). I also had a tumblr for that where people from otherkin community used to affirm my non-existence and “voidness”, literally affirming my delusion from mental illness. Now I see they have a word for that, “copinglinkers” which is a “fake” otherkin (as any of them are actually non-human LOL).

@@Amysmith29first of all, spirit animal is a term from specific spiritual beliefs. And being a therian isn't having a connection, it's on some abstract level feeling that you ARE that animal. It's difficult to explain if you don't experience it, since it's just a different wavelength to biological conception of species
@The_Cricketeer
@The_Cricketeer 4 ай бұрын
@@Amysmith29 It’s quite different actually, while a so called “spirit animal” may guide you, therians feel like we are animals stuck in a human body, we get things like phantom tails, where you feel like you have a tail but when you check it isn’t there. And before you ask, research has been done, and phycoligists and scientists agree that it is not a mental illness nor is it anything close
@horseconfused
@horseconfused 3 ай бұрын
@@Amysmith29hi, therian here; Those Spiritual “guides” or “spirit animal” things are not related to Therianthropy, a therian is someone who, based off of personal experiences or their beliefs, upbringing and other factors lead them to have a mental divergence to that of a more animalistic being, we do not always get the best representation on tiktok, as most of these “therians” really are just kids having fun. Some people like me genuinely do not feel completely human, my entire life i hated my body and knew I shouldn’t have been born into a human body, it caused me to go through hell in discovering myself. There are spiritual therians who believe in reincarnation or past lives who believe they were an animal in their past life, and there are psychological therians like me who think i wasn’t supposed to be a human. It is a very real phenomenon, i recommend looking into some Therian territory videos as they explain some things that the girl in this video clearly did no research about our culture. For some people it is their religion, Two-spirit, for instance, an indigenous beleif, also being a branch of therianthropy I wish for one day the world would stop being so condescending about what makes someone who they are, not everyone is gonna be the “normal” pretty white girl. Humans are complicated, so have understanding and empathy. (I just wanna put it out there that the videos reacted to in this video are not the best representation of our culture, the black wolf person or whatever is another exaggerated version/situation to make things look more unbelievable on tv, and 99% of these videos are not therians, they are furries, a completely unrelated thing. Also another reason that i believe this woman is just another one of those people hopping on the therian hate trend without doing any prior research. Humans are full of tons of weird or icky things, we all have them. Just remember that.

And ofc, people are a lot more comfortable being open about it (and, tbh, a little goofy and cringe, bc it's fun sometimes!) online, I'd be willing to bet that almost none of these people show it in public. I think the key thing here is if they're able to maintain a division between whatever they think they are, and their everyday life. If they do all this stuff largely in the privacy of their own homes, or just wear animal ears to work or whatever, that's basically harmless - I saw a video once about this woman who likes to dress up like a fairy, and it was actually quite charming; she knew perfectly well that she WASN'T a fairy, but she liked to put on fairy wings and dance around the woods and such, and it helped her blow off steam. It was another persona that helped her deal with the world, and when she wasn't wearing the wings, she behaved normally - if someone has THAT sort of relationship to wolves or mermaids or demons or something, they can go ahead and let their freak flags fly, so far as I'm concerned. It's when they refuse to make a division between public and private that the problems start, and this all becomes worrying; if you insist on living as an aardvark twenty-four seven, maybe you're not actually HARMING anyone, but there's no doubt that something is wrong with you.

Trust me, the vast majority of this community doesn't act like this 24/7 :) For one, they recognize they're physically 100% human and live human lives, and two, the idea of even wearing a tail in public is usually kinda terrifying because you never know how people will react (ie, people have been physically attacked for things like that). Also, 'crawling on the floor' has got nothing to do with being a therian/otherkin. You can have your own opinion on things and that's fine but just don't be an asshole because nothings harming you. Not everyone has access to raw meat or wolves mate. The only rules for being otherkin is you are partly connected to animals in some way. You don't have to do anything else or eat wild animals or live with tigers because in the end everyone is human just some more than others. As an Otherkin I have to say: You are right, that whole topic can be, and often times is, really cringey. Especially the great collection of cringey videos on the Internet like this, which are made by people who may or may not take that topic seriously. But what I want to make clear, as cringey as it looks on the outside, there is a whole lot more to it than just people fooling around with pup ears or driving off into dream land. I wouldn't take it serious myself, wouldn't I happen to be one myself. But this whole thing (and this is where I really need your attention here!), whatever spiritual or mental conditions may cause it, is ENTIRELY INVOLUNTARILY. We do not choose to be Otherkin. We do not choose our kintype. And not always Otherkin are happy about being what they are. But things like Species Disphoria or very intense mind shifts ARE things that often accur. The thing is, you probably wouldn't recognize most Otherkin/Therians as such in daily life. It is possible to suppress these shifts, things like running on all fours, barking etc., and we also (at least not all) live in a fantasy world. It's more like trying to live a normal human life, though not feeling very normal or human. But bearing that down for too long is not as much a healthy thing as you might think and most of the things seen are in fact things people rather do in private than going around to show off. It's not a thing you just do, outing yourself as Otherkin in society, unless you like having a bad time! Now long story short: Otherkin are not an easy topic and with all the cringe on the outside, it's anything but a childhood fantasy or longing for attention. And if you dare to give it a second view and take a little break from any youtube compilations you will find that there is a lot more to that iceberg. PS: Don't confuse Otherkin with Furries! There is some overlap like fursuits, but they are very seperate things and especially the cartoonier fursuits are more likely to be considered with Furries than Otherkin. ;)

THANK YOU! These "cringe compilations" are a terrible representation of the alterhuman community. It's not voluntary, it's not for attention, and it can be really hard. We recognize we're human, many don't use gear or do quadrobics, and it's certainly very different from being a furry.

Thank you! :) You would not recognise me as a therian at all, as I hold down a job and partake in the same things that everyone else does. The thing is that people only tend to see the crazy and extreme versions, as "feral dog girl holds down a career, drives and otherwise does everything that any human does in addition to being therian" really doesn't make an interesting headline. I don't want to be treated as special due to my identity, in fact I'd be mortified! However it would be nice to be able to live in a world where I can just casually say that I'm therian and no one cares as long as I only express my identity in an appropriate place. I can't blame the people discovering non-human identity through TikToks like this thinking of all of the things mentioned in this video. At least the video commentary put out the arguments intelligently even though they don't fully get what we are about. I do all of my animalistic behaviours in private and I do think that if you can't temporarily supress your animal side AND are trying to force people to accept it in every setting, this is a problem. Hell even amongst actual animals there's etiquette...there's no way I'm going to approach the street dogs I make friends with on holiday in the same way as I approach a familiar pet dog unless I want to be bitten! I have no problem with following rules to be able to benefit from society, there's a time and a place for stuff and that's okay. :) As long as I can go somewhere to get the animal things out of my system at some point, we're good. Just a final note in case anyone else reads through this: not all nonhuman types think in spiritual terms. I'm agnostic and point towards neurology and psychology to explain my being therian. I do know that I have brain differences and that autism is a common theme throughout otherkin communities (I have autism and other stuff going on). I would love to see more and proper research into this for my own curiosity and also to potentially help those who are really suffering with their species dysphoria. I'm lucky that I don't really suffer from being therian and my species dysphoria is just a minor annoyance. For me, being therian is a fun thing for the most part.

As getting surgery makes us further from nature. 6: its not your problem. Because were not gonna attack you Imao 7: we don't bark at people 8: quadrobics is a form of exercise. And my dad is very supportive of my progress 9: these are minors. Just to clear something up, you said that the furry community has a lot of adult themes. And while I’m not a furry myself, I do know people who are and I can tell you now… the majority of it is _not_ “adult” themed. Yes, there’s people who bring kink into it but that is a far cry from being the majority. Being a furry means nothing except liking anthropomorphic animals. Some furries will make up their own OC’s, draw them, write about them, and cosplay as them. Also, the majority of furries know that they are not actually animals even the ones that dress up in a suit or even just ears & tail. It’s not age exclusive so obviously there’s going to be kids that are interested in it too and I see nothing wrong with that as long as they don’t get exposed to the kink minority.

It's really comfy to be a "wolf" in a warm room full with plushies... But for example the wolf biologists in USA have to be outside every day, before sunrise to sunset, in icy cold weather to observe wolves. On that icy, wild habitat, where wolves have to fight for survive every day. They have to risk the hunt, to catch ungulates, what can injure them really bad. (BTW the brutal parts always are cut from documentaries.) Have to fight with bears and raise pups. They don't use make up and sleep among plushies. Yes, this is escapism.

I used to have the Foxhound symbol from Metal Gear Solid with these colours and that got me accusations of being a furry for some reason. I always stayed away from "the furry community" but got along with some people who were furry (who just were writers) when I was younger. These so called Therians don't know the first thing about spirituality either. The point of an animal being a spiritual symbol of you is because in some cultures, they represent something. Take Odin's Raven for example for the vikings. Or a Fox meant you were agile and stealthier. A Wolf having the symbolic meaning you were a leader or patient, bold or brave. Or in Japanese Shinto, A Fox was a messenger of Inari. Goddess of Agriculture. Depends on the culture or story symbolism. An animal spirit in native american culture didn't mean they wanted to be like them literally. for example.

Many alterhumans wear masks or so called gear to feel more closer to their kin. They sometimes do vocals but normally don’t bark or meow at people. Alterhumans are still human and they know that. They have nothing to do with furrys but they do support each other :) Most alterhumans don’t even show they are one. Identifying as a creature has nothing to do with the lgbtq community. And most importantly, being alterhuman is not a choice and it is not clarified yet if this is a mental disorder/coping mechanism. Having gone down an otherkin rabbit hole, I've found the concept of otherkin follows the exact same logic as transgender. An otherkin being has a kin type, and kin type is essentially the same as gender identity. So just like transgender can mean that someone rejects their assigned sex-either in full OR in part--someone can reject their assigned species completely or partially. Just like a transgender person can identify only has one gender, or as non-binary, or gender-fluid, or multiple genders, otherkin people can still identify as human, too, as well as have one or more other kin types. If you have learned the "logic" of gender identity ideology, otherkin ideology follows the same pattern without fail.

Both of them come from the same ideology. Social Justice/ Intersectionality/ Critical Theory. It's Marxist in nature. Basically an identity based ideology created by communists that went off the rails. These days it's called 'woke'. Basically, the reason that it is so confusing, is it uses 'logic' designed to be confusing that most people don't think too much about it, or those that criticize it can be turned into an 'outgroup'. For example I dislike Gender ideology, therefore I'm against all Transgender people is the logic, and activists/ governments use them to push censorship laws in. as my country has seen recently. Basically it's a subversion of gender and sex as a concept, and sadly, it uses people who have gender dysphoria or autistic spectrum and sucks them it. Basically they are sucked into lies so activists can use them. If you apply what this guy says to the mechanics of it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r6uifreHyau4oKs.html You see a larger picture.

However it is true that a large percentage of furries tend to go there. And my theory, controversial as it might be, is that it is due to it being LGBT dominated. I agree with the sentiment that people can do what they want, but no way in hell am I affirming, congratulating or encouraging anyone. That behavior is harmful to the individual and society, it's only the primacy of individual freedom that stops me from outright shaming these people (although that might not be a bad idea if you care enough). On the stuff about furries being an outgrowth of LGBT community, it's probably because historically all behaviors percieved as outside "sexual norms" were lumped together on the fringes of society. Only recently have they been more accepted but the weirder things, like these furries, sort of came with it because of the people association with the former.

Express yourself as much as you want but I will not condone even talking to actual children about this matter.

Whenever I go to the YMCA during evenings, I hear the young kids imitating this in the halls. There was even his and growl fight once. I think it's the millinial parents' fault for letting such behavior happen. Hey, millinial parents don't have any more kids, please, if you can't raise them yourself.

Wow, ok, a lot to unpack here. Some of these videos are taken EXTREMELY out of context. If anyone has any further questions, I'd be more than happy to answer. - First off, furries are a completely different community. Yes, there can be some overlap, but being a furry is just a hobby based around cosplay and character design. MOST FURRIES AREN'T ALTERHUMAN, AND MOST ALTERHUMANS AREN'T FURRIES. A HOBBY IS NOT AN IDENTITY. - Being a therian or otherkin is not voluntary, the simplest way to explain it is that it's involuntary animalistic thoughts, behaviors, and feelings, that are significant enough that you perceive them as a part of your identity. Yes, it is possible to have dysphoria/dysmorphia because you feel your body is shaped wrong, too slow, etc, but not everyone gets that. It isn't defined as "whatever you feel it is", the definition is actually quite clear, but being alterhuman can be experienced very differently for different people. - Alterhumans recognize that they're human, and don't fully identify as animals. They see some aspects of themselves (mainly mental and spiritual) as part-animal. - No one acts animalistic 24/7, that would be ridiculous. In fact, many therians/otherkin don't do quadrobics or wear gear, and no one is asking you to "affirm their identity when they bark at you". There are even people who aren't alterhuman who do quadrobics as a sport (yes, quadrobics is a sport, it's not just "crawling around on the floor and barking"). - Yes, it's different from being trans- it's not a gender or sexuality, it's a deep connection to a certain animal, to the point that it feels like a part of your identity. - MOST IMPORTANTLY- No one's telling you to "blindly agree," they're asking you to be respectful. They're not hurting you, they're not hating on you, they're just living their lives in a way that's comfortable for them. People have gotten death threats over this. People have k!lled themselves because they didn't want to be hated on over this. You say that just wearing gear and living as a human "isn't real commitment," but what do you think they have to commit to? It's not an act, it's not a game, and they are human. They recognize that. You wouldn't say that a trans woman isn't showing "real commitment" if she likes something stereotypically masculine, so why would they have to fully live as an animal for your validation? - I highly recommend checking out the channel Therian Territory for more information, they have really good explanations of different aspects of the alterhuman community. Remember, you don't have to understand people to be kind to them.

Thank you! It bugs me when I see people harassing alterhumans about “being human” or “being delusional”, like you wouldn’t go up to a gay man snd say “you’re not gay” or “you’re actually delusional.”

Animation depicts humanized animals. Historically people have always imagined animals with human qualities, but we didn't become immersed in such vivid depictions until modern media. Furries and otherkin are new and can't be compared to anything our ancestors did with spirit animals or mythological cat-human gods.

Tell that to the internet. F*rries love to appropriate old culture. It bugs me when chronically online people call characters such as Mickey Mouse or the minotaur as f*rries when the internet didnt even exist at that time.

This reminds me of an episode of House MD where Dr. House was trying to help a guy’s quality of life by feeding into his delusion that he really is a superhero. He was happy for about 15 seconds, until the guy jumps off a parking garage believing he could fly and breaks several bones making him nearly catatonic with depression. Delusions exist and they may provide temporary relief for people suffering that to live it out. Unfortunately consequences exist and bad things tend to happen to people who have poor grasps on reality. Like not being to hold down a job and becoming homeless or ending up in a psych ward.
