Scotland’s First Minister has insisted he is “very proud” of new hate crimes laws which have just come into force, as author JK Rowling warned the legislation is “wide open to abuse”.
The Harry Potter author, who has become a fierce critic of the Scottish Government’s stance on transgender rights, has been one of the highest profile critics of the legislation.
The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act came into effect on Monday, consolidating existing hate crime legislation and creating a new offence of stirring up hatred against protected characteristics.
However, women have not been given protection under the law, with the Scottish Government instead promising to bring forward legislation to tackle misogyny.
Backing JK Rowling, Julia Hartley-Brewer challenges Police Scotland to arrest her for refusing to state something "I know to be untrue".
"I tweeted yesterday, trans women are not women, trans women are men, arrest me," she adds.

Maybe they do. Anyway, whatever they want, they should be sent to a male prison. If they are not sent to a male prison, why is that? Surely, if they claim to be a man they should be sent to a prison where all the other men are sent. And then maybe we'll hear some of these "men" saying they are not really men so they should be put in a female prison. And given that there are now 57 (and counting) different genders, should we not have 57 different varieties of prison? Being taken in by the police for questioning would take on a whole new meaning (LGBTQ).

About as enforceable as a law stating "you must not sneeze on a Tuesday or cough on a Friday". That's an interesting question - I've thought about that myself. I fear we're creating a new class of prisoner, the 'political' type, just like in the Soviet Gulag. They won't be classed as political, not at first, but in effect that's what they'll really be, because they're in prison not for anything they've done, but for what they believe.

If you believe trans woman are men who say they are woman then in Scotland you now have 3 choices the Scottish government would like you to take so not to break the law. 1. Never , ever publicly state this under any circumstances. 2. Change your belief genuinely to a man who subjectively says he is a woman is indeed actually a woman. 3. Publicly pretend you believe trans woman are woman for the rest of your life at all times. That's it, that's the 3 options you have in Scotland to be sure you are never criminalised. That is absolutely authoritarian, it's almost totalitarian. If you are demanding people never express a fact , change the fact or pretend something is a fact then 1984 is a fair comparison

Never will happen from me, I have no issues with the LGBTQ community they can express themselves how they want, but, I will never buy into the pronoun and a trans man is really a woman fiction, firstly that belief is damaging to women's sports and does nothing but causes uproar and scandal, trans men want to live as a female fine, but getting people to give them all the benefits that women get is too much, take sports there is ample evidence that males who identify as women in famale sporting events invariably come out on top if they were only average at the sport as a an, that is blatantly unfair as is for these same women to share dressing rooms with a biological who says he is female.
