Sadly i grew up in a family that NEVER changed the transmission fluid. As you stressed in your video, we always attended to the oil and filter but it wasn't until i got older and learned the importance of the trans fluid, did i start telling my family that they need to change the fluid/filter.

I've done it with every used vehicle I've bought. I also make sure it's the 1st thing I check by looking at the fluid, & smelling it as well to see if it smells a little burnt. I do have one vehicle that I bought new in 08 that I need to check, & change it anyway. It has 81,000 on the clock. Another thing that should be checked on if it's RWD is the diff. fluid, & changed. One exception is Allisons in the duramax. Using TES295 rated fluid, they recommend a change at 300k miles or 150k under severe duty. Rarely have I seen one fail and it's mostly due to the spin on filter IMHO. The 4L60 is notorious for going out at 150k miles. I believe if there were a spin on filter, there would be far less failures of that trans. Most of these pan "filters" are coarse screens or at best, a course poly spun web and they do very little filtering. More like a strainer or colander.

The manufacturers don't do anyone any favours because they basically say it doesn't need to be changed, or if it does the intervals are way too long. I don't know why they do this. I guess because once it's out of warranty, it's no longer their problem.
