If refilling with the same amount, make sure that the replacement fluid is the same temperature as what you drained out otherwise your volumes will be off. Keeping the car and new fluid in your garage overnight and don't start the car before the procedure.

Thanks. I don't think you can. I would use the Toyota ones from the dealer unless the aftermarket ones fit and don't leak because some aftermarket ones may leak. I'd just recommend getting them from the dealer instead to be on the safe side.

I’m getting ready to do this service and n the next week or so. Do you by chance know of an affordable OBD2 scanner that measures trans temp? Thx.
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair 3 ай бұрын
Any capable scan tool in which you can enter into the transmission control module computer. You can check Amazon to see what's available. Launch CRP 123 or CRP 129 works fine. Some Foxwell scanners are also good. There are a lot out there. You may need to spend roughly 200 to 300 dollars CAD minimum to get one of those.

What about flushing out the old fluid from the transmission cooler?
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair Жыл бұрын
The customer needs to pay for the service otherwise I just do a regular drain and fill. A flush requires more fluid and time. I only do it if the customer requests to do so. Thanks for watching.
@rodneysmith247
@rodneysmith247 Жыл бұрын
Honda odysseys have the same procedure so usually you repeat the drain and fill 3 times. Jiffy lube did the flush and extracted only 8qts and replaced the full capacity 8 1/2qts and didn't even check and was over filled by 1/2qt. I did the service cuz it was done before and was 1qt over filled which will slowly ruin it.

I have a question for you on the U660E. Can the fluid be siphoned out of the fill port? I’ve siphoned fluid from dipstick tubes before on different vehicles and replaced exactly what I’ve taken out when the transmission is cold. I’m curious if you know anything about this. Keep up the great work. New Subscriber here.

Thanks and welcome to the channel. I don't think you can extract the fluid out from the fill plug area. I haven't personally tried myself, but I doubt you can. You can try and experiment to see if it works. I do have a separate video where I did a full flush on this transmission for the all wheel drive version U660F where I temporarily removed the cooler lines to get the fluid out.
@Lexus_ES350

@@moosemobileautorepair I did watch that video but me personally…I’m not a fan of the flush. I think a drain and fill supplies enough new fluid to keep things running properly unless the fluid is burnt or suspected of being burnt. I’ve been hesitant to do this service because of getting the right temp and doing all these procedures but then I see you simplified it. Have you ever had any issues with doing like that? It just makes me nervous to possibly under or overfill. Thx again.
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair 5 ай бұрын
@brianrader6076 I did a flush on that one because the fluid was really bad and smelled burnt. You will be just fine with a regular drain and fill. These transmissions are not finicky if it is slightly overfilled or underfilled. Even if it is overfilled by half a liter or a liter it won't do any harm. I've been doing it for a long time now. But the proper way is to check the fluid level of course if you can. If you put the same amount back in that comes out and a little tiny bit more then you should be fine it's not a big deal. I used to be super paranoid about the transmission level on cars many years ago, but some people do not realize that a transmission typically has an operating range so as long as the fluid level is within the range then you are fine, but ideally should be at the full mark.

No, not required on these vehicles and I don't think it can be done anyways. For other vehicles such as VW, Audi, etc. they have adaptation procedures for some things.

@@moosemobileautorepair Another quick question. When I was working on my sienna font brakes, I've noticed interesting sound, rotating the font hub by hands. Should it be like that? I hope it's not transmission. It has 120K miles on it. It requires only 20 seconds of your time and decades of experience . kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6mGiJCjxM_Rp4E.html Would really appreciate any information on that, since I have no money to go to mechanic and just doing something I can do myself to keep the car running.

That's nothing to worry about that is perfectly normal. That is just the axle spinning inside the output shaft in the transmission there will be some noises and a small amount of play and stuff. That is nothing to worry about. All cars do that when you spin the axles back and forth. Are you having any transmission related issues while driving or any noise? Otherwise, all should be fine.

@@moosemobileautorepair Transmission is shifting very smoothly, almost "invisible", when it's riding. The only concern is why, when in the morning transmission is cold (even now, not winter), and I shift to D, the car is like sit down to the rear end. The same feeling like if I would forget to switch off handbrake. From outside car is literally sits down like a dog. It's happening only when the transmission is cold. When warmed up (after riding) - nothing like that. I've checked the transmission fluid level on warm, after riding and engine is working - level is perfectly on HOT. But when it's cold (start the engine in the morning, shift to D, shift to R, shift to P and then go and check the level with engine working), the level is far below COLD. Like nothing on the dipstick at all. Completely dry. By some magic transmission take all the fluid when cold )))
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair Жыл бұрын
Oh that's because the transmission fluid will expand when it warms up and gets hotter. When it gets cold the fluid will contract. That's why the fluid level is lower when cold and higher when hot. Typically, transmissions need to be checked when warmed up at a certain temperature. Depending on what transmission you have some transmissions with a dipstick will have a cold and hot range and some will just have a hot range or hash marks on the dipstick. About the vehicle sitting lower than normal I'm not sure if you're referring to the suspension of the vehicle? If the rear end is sagging the coil springs may be worn out or broken if that's the problem you're having unless you talking about something else which I'm not too sure about. It may be that the engine/transmission mounts may be worn out when you put a load on it as in when you shift from drive to reverse, etc. Or it could be something worn out in the suspension. I would inspect the rear shocks for leakage and the rear coil springs as well and check the front struts.

I have a 2013 Sienna that never been serviced before for transmission fluid. Currently at 187,000. Transmision is working fine. I am hesitating to change the fluid as other people are advising to not do it if the transmission has never been serviced before and the mileage is over 100,000 KM. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair 5 ай бұрын
I would service it because sooner or later if you don't you will be looking for a transmission replacement soon. Best to service it and probably do a few drain and fills or manually flush out the fluid until the fluid is clean. The only time when you don't want to service a transmission is if it is acting up already, but otherwise still shifts and goes through all of the gears. If you try to service a transmission like that then it is possible that it could fail in a few thousand kilometers or miles. Here is the reason why some mechanics/technicians or people may tell you not to service it: The issue with a transmission that has never had a service is that when you do a drain and fill that new fluid will mix with the old fluid and any contaminants, dirt or debris that may have built up inside the transmission may allow the new fluid to dislodge those contaminants and circulate in the transmission. Those contaminates could get into and clog up the valve body and other critical components. This all could happen in just a few thousand miles or kilometers of driving after the service. The old fluid may still contain clutch material for the clutch packs and so when you drain that fluid and introduce new fluid the transmission could stop shifting properly and cause failure within a few thousand kilometers or miles. It all depends how the transmission is behaving now and if it's shifting properly or not. 2015 Toyota Sienna AWD 3.5 V6 - U660F - Transmission Flush Service kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pc6VfNmSxLjdoas.html

You said the OEM toyota transmission fluid is a full synthetic fluid. Which to me is questionable.??? To most everyone else it is just a STANDARD fluid and NOT a synthetic . Where did you get your information that states the OEM is a full Synthetic fluid????
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair Жыл бұрын
If a fluid is synthetic it will normally say on the bottle itself. I know on this one it doesn't state that. It's just called World Standard abbreviated WS. Just a name Toyota came up with. In some Toyota TSBs they stated that the WS fluid was introduced to reduce maintenance costs and increase mileage, therefore it has to be a synthetic fluid considering the high mileage interval as regular non-synthetic fluids cannot obtain that kind of mileage without having problems. Most of today's automatic transmission fluids are synthetic. T-SB-0006-11: World Standard (WS) Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) was introduced to reduce maintenance costs and increase the mileage between scheduled maintenance checks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aisin normally makes the Toyota transmissions for them as well as the Toyota WS fluid in which Aisin slaps the Toyota label on to their bottles for the dealerships. Toyota owns about 25% of the Aisin company/shares. Even on the Aisin WS transmission fluid it does not say on the bottle if it is fully synthetic for whatever reasons they chose not to say it is fully synthetic, but it is a fully synthetic fluid given that it lasts a long time and has extended drain intervals for it. I will see if I ever find any additional information regarding this if I find anything more specifically in the future and I will post it here. Even if it's standard fluid it doesn't matter. The oil companies sometimes advertise it if the fluid is synthetic or not. That's what most newer Toyotas take nowadays.
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair Жыл бұрын
On the Aisin WS transmission bottle which is the same as the Toyota WS bottle it states the following: Features: Excellent flow and temperature characteristics ensure smooth engagement in any weather condition Optimally engineered for smooth shifting without shift shock Fluid friction coefficiency reduces drivetrain power loss, which enables better start and acceleration If a fluid has excellent flow characteristics in any weather condition including extreme cold conditions then it is a synthetic fluid because regular conventional fluids cannot perform like that in cold weather or in any weather condition. Therefore, this is a fully synthetic fluid.

@moosemobileautorepair 2 ай бұрын
No filter. Just a drain and fill. That's what the video is about. I only do what the customer wants to do. Most customers cannot afford for a supreme service they can only afford the basic minimum service so that is what I do. A filter change is not entirely necessary on these vehicles unless there is a problem or if the transmission has been neglected. However, changing the filter can help to prolong the life of the transmission if you can afford it. If you can I recommend changing it at higher mileage if possible. The only time I replace those filters is usually if it is on my personal vehicles. Otherwise, very rarely will a customer want to change the filter unless it is an American vehicle where there are no separate drain plug holes to drain the fluid. If I ever change one of those I will make a video on it.

Why not torque the filler plug and you keep switching 5 or 6 mm to remove the plastic from the drain plug and it is a shame you are wearing toyota uniform
@moosemobileautorepair
@moosemobileautorepair Жыл бұрын
It was because I work on a variety of vehicles from time to time and I forget what size the overflow plastic tube is. Usually it is a 6 mm so I was trying to see what fits and works. That's all. No need to be a critic and nitpick on people when all I am trying to do is educate and help others on how to do a service on a vehicle. That Toyota uniform was from well over a decade ago when I used to work for the dealership. There is always a reason why people here are watching me because they don't know how to do something. Don't come here to be a critic. Only come here if you want resourceful information. Otherwise you can get lost. You can torque the plugs if you want or tighten it up snug. Either way works fine.

@@rodneysmith247 Thanks LOL 😆. I did make another video though on how to check the fluid level properly. I also have another one where I did one on a CVT transmission as well. The heat gun stuff is a bit less accurate VS using the scan tool which is more accurate. I checked for myself and made comparisons. The heat gun is about 10 degrees Fahrenheit less than on the scan tool and so that's going to make a big difference when checking the level unfortunately. But yeah thanks for bringing that up.
