I'm going to show you the best way to install the JSAUX Transparent Backplate.
We will also be testing the cooling for it - and with the ModCase too!

Just so everyone knows, you absolutely can use the big replacement back buttons with the mod case, you just have to carefully slide the case on the bottom first then one side at a time and some slight force.

yeah, after this i did max fan rpm at 7300 with and without the backplate and was at -9c differential after an hour(76c without it, 67c with it). Have to take into account that although this video only shows -5c, the fan RPM drops as the temperatures drop as well.

Would you mind testing with backplate, internal fan, and then also jsaux cooling fan and mod case with the fans at 100%? I'm thinking about getting that set up but want to see if it's worth the backplate and jsaux cooling fan

Would you recommend fully removing the stock pad and replacing with a thinner or more air conducive aftermarket?

It's thick so that it makes contact with the metal shield underneath it

Ha. The diypapi mod. I just saw that video an hour ago and I'll be doing that as well when I get my back plate. Does the deck fit in the case with no issue after you added the new back buttons? Nothing is being pressed down?
@baldsealion
@baldsealion Жыл бұрын
I just tried, with the ModCase on it's a little more snug but I don't think any buttons are being pressed, it is not difficult to zip it, just definitely more snug.

Hello, great video. Is it really necessary to cut the pad? I have mine without cutting it, does it improve temperatures? Thank you!
@baldsealion
@baldsealion Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Cutting the pad makes it so the built in air channel is not blocked. If this channel is blocked, then you can heat up and burn out the other components in the steam deck. Hopefully JSAUX will update the backplate in the future, but for now I would highly recommend cutting the thermal pad.

Same channel. Thanks for re-subbing 😄 KZfaq has special algorithms where they actually will unsub people automatically if they don’t watch enough or like enough videos, it’s pretty messed up.

Does this case work fine if you just end up removing the entire thermal pad? I just want it for the looks.

but why would u remove it? If it benefits to the passive cooling, why bother removing?
@waffles6527
@waffles6527 6 ай бұрын
@@rcarlom9882 Apparently it disrupts the sort of airflow in the device and blocks a part of it from getting cooled, which can damage it. Thats just what I've heard.

The only thing i can share is i ran need for speed heat ( mind you mine is fully windows ) . The game will get as high as 80+c. Now with jsaux transparent case, the game ran like 60-70c

I also have this backplate and when i first installed it my temps were pretty bad and frames were dropping after that I cut off a piece of the thermal pad but i only left a small amount on so it can still transfer heat and let the air through. Really weird how the thermal pad blocks majority of the air and makes temps even worse. I literally cut off most of the pad and left a tiny little rectangle of it in the middle. After doing that it worked pretty well and while the backplate still gets hot it dissipates the heat a lot faster compared to when the entire thermal pad was attached.
@aeit999
@aeit999 Жыл бұрын
It's not weird. Under stock plate there are also thermal pads. Stacking pads in layers creates isolation instead of heat conductivity. Best solution would be backplate with copper plate sticking directly to heatsink. Anyways, deck is first and only device that gets so much attention and support. Also I suggest tomuse MX6 and swap orginal pads for gelid ultimate

Glad I saw this. Ended up doing same thing and my temps are nearly identical with the full thermal pad, but now the back plate measures 42C down from 52C. My pad is probably about a 1x1cm square near the middle.

its not best design best to cut that thermal pad small square just above APU and remove the rest for airflow
@baldsealion

Yeah I cut the side off that blocks the air channel - I show this in the video, but you are right I probably should re-visit and cut more precisely so there is no risk of burning out other components.

Jsaux customer support team sucks. I ordered a blue backplate kit and i’ve changed my mind on canceling it before it arrives and they can barely respond, when they do respond it takes 30-50 minutes each time, and they still shipped it over even though they said they’ve cancelled it. I’m keeping it because I don’t feeling like dealing with their support system again.
