I have a red 6000 that I use as a commuter bike. Had it since '99 and it's still going strong today. Granted, like yours, most of the parts have been upgraded over the years. Biggest upgrade has been a RockShox Judy which makes a HHUUUUUGE difference. Did you do anything to the Jett T2 fork to improve it?

1:48 This is a "9-speed" megarange derailleur from around 1999. Sort of weird to have this with an 8-speed cassette, 8-speed shifter, and 6-7-8 speed chain.

Yes it is strange, but I bought the bike new and that was what was on it - I'm currently doing a rebuild and will be using it with 9-speed cassette and full Deore LX components.

Cool video and a lovely bike, thank you. I'm restoring a 6000 frame too at the moment and have no bottom bracket for size reference. 73mm shell but what overall spindle width is the original if I decide to go original or the same conversion as you?

Awesome. Thinking about doing this with the exact same frame. Can you give me specs on what you put in the bottom bracket and the specs on the drivetrain? Intend to do the exact same. Also if you weren’t aware this fork was recalled by RS and is still under recall to this day. If you call Sram they will send you a modern replacement for free.

Didn’t know that - I’ll check that one out. I took the existing bottom bracket to my lbs in Port Erin. I got a shimano bb55 exact size replacement and they found me a spacer as well. The drive train is sunrace crankset 96bcd I got it from Tredz in Swansea along with the 36T n/w chainring. The cassette is microShift advent 9-speed 11-46 as is the derailleur and the 9 speed shifter. All went together very easily. The 2.5 mm spacer on the drive side ensures the chain line is centred on the cassette. I got the microShift parts from chain reaction cycles - all in U.K as I live in the Isle of Man during the summer.

Don't buy an E-Bike kit until you watch this. There may be some things you haven't thought about yet
