Probably the most thorough restoration build of a vintage mtb I’ve ever seen and I’ve watched them all.

Perfeita e linda. Montada com peças de excelência. Parabéns. Adoro quadros de cromoly, especialmente os da linha Trek.

Também gosto. The steel trek frames from the '90s were extremely good and will last many years. My only complaint about Trek is that they mixed and matched components and it is impossible to find them with a consistent group set throughout.

Nice video, kinda dumb of me but I didn't realise that threaded/non-threaded were interchangeable I assumed the frame itself also played a role (not just headset+fork)

as long as the steerer tube has the same diameter it's no problem to switch from threaded to threadless. Going the other way is more difficult as the steerer tube has to be threaded and getting the thread on straight is almost impossible without proper tools or a lathe to align everything. I was surprised that the steerer tube was 1 1/8" rather than the usual 1".

Love your restoration! May I know what tire size you used? I am also trying to rebuild my 830 and wondering what type of wheelset did you get for yours? Does any 26 inch work? Appreciate your answer!

The tyres are 26x2.1. The wheels are the originals they had a Shimano 7 speed hub which I removed and put an 8/9/10 hub on. I removed one of the spacers on the other side of the axle to make it all fit as the 7 speed hub is 5mm shorter then the 8 speed.

What bottom bracket did you use? The original?

I got a Shimano un 300 square taper bb. The same specs as the original - which I cannot recall, I think it was a 73mm width but measure the shell you can get both 68mm and 73mm. You will also need to know the overall width of the square taper - I think mine was 113mm. -but again read it off your bb or measure the old one they come in anything from 108mm to 122mm. The un300 bb is the better of the two square taper options. They are not very expensive. The cranks were square taper.

Hi Are they the original wheels? Id like to convert mine to 9 speed
@JohnPilling25
@JohnPilling25 9 ай бұрын
Yes they re the original wheels. If yours is an 8 speed you can just put a 9 or 10 speed cassette on. You'll need a new shifter or a friction shifter. Just make sure that the derailleur will go under the biggest ring on the cassette otherwise you'll need a derailleur extender that lowers the mounting point of the derailleur so that the chain will go under the lowest gear. If it's a 7 speed cassette you will need to remove the spline and replace it with an 8/9/10 speed one.
