A brief look at the R.157 Diesel Railcar & R.158 Trailer Car from the Tri-ang Railways RS.7 Diesel Railcar Train Set with its great packaging from the early 1960s plus the R.334 Center Car of the same period. Along with lots of running on the railway with a number of other items. All date approximate.

Aaah - lovely nostalgia! I had a Triang DMU back in the late fifties. The interesting thing was that in my set the two driving cars were numbered 79628 and 79629 but in reality they couldn't be consecutive numbers as they were different types, a Motor Brake Second and a driving trailer composite. The latter should have been in a different number series. Then Triang brought out the centre trailer and it was numbered 59120. This was a Blue Square coach which was incompatible with the coupling of the earlier cars. In fact 59120 was one of the 1958 Metro Cammells used on Birmingham local services and I saw it often at New Street.

Thanks for sharing the video of the your Tri-ang DMU. A favourite model of mine. I have the power car, trailer car and two centre cars. It is converted to DCC. The power car, trailer car and one centre car have the split axle plastic wheels converted to pin point metal wheels. The second trailer has the original pin point plastic axles. All have seating units. All bought secondhand unboxed apart from the second centre car. The power car motor bogie has smooth wheels and additional trailing bogie pickups. They run on my PECO code 100 track without any problems alongside a lot newer models. It is certainly a noisy model to operate but typical of the time it was made. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Good morning Rob, thanks again for taking the time to watch. It's great to hear about your DMU and it's great DCC running on the Peco code 100, amazing the difference of smooth wheelset makes to the model, I have a later blue version with smooth drive wheels, feels so totally different to operate and quite odd without all the sound generated by the earlier course knurled wheels. Hope you've been enjoying the festive season and wish you all the best for the coming year. Oscar

The original 7 units were 2 car yellow diamond coupling code for the Bury -Bacup service with some services to Manchester Victoria via Castleton. Most passengers for Manchester changed at Bury for the EMU , originally L&Y. No yellow diamond intermediate coaches were built only blue square. I travelled on these frequently when at school.

Thanks again, right they all ran smashing again just to prove how well they run you deliberately left points closed. to show they aer not perfect. Well done. Well yes it’s Christmas Eve here too and in 1959 at Christmas. I would be seven months old so quite a wait until I can get my first Hornby set. I reckon that old railway sets are like Landrovers in that you spend 80% of your time fixing for a 20% running, but it certainly shows the effort you put in. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s great to see them running faultlessly. Merry Christmas Oliver and everyone else who follows your channel?

Merry Christmas Oscar, another great video. I seem to remember somewhere reading or being told the RS7 set picture is of Newcastle. Can't guarantee it but certainly ringing many bells. Nice to see the variations of the early style Tri-ang station buildings, your red signal box shows a little of the usual cellulose acetate warping just to add to the charm.

Hello and good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. What a wonderful video today. It really takes me back many years. I sometimes wish I was a young lad in the early 1950s when a lot of these model railway sets first came out and to actually go into a model railway shop in the early 1950s and actually see these train sets on display in glass cases. I remember as a lad there used to be a model railway shop in the city centre near the Railway station and they must have sold everything to do with model railways and other models like Airfix ect. If I remember correctly, and I am not sure if I do now after all these years,it was a family ran business. The shop was small but the chap behind the counter was always smartly dressed and always polite. I would say it was a typical shop of the 1950s. It had a polished wooden floor and a polished brass door bell that rang loud and clear when the door was opened and closed. Happy days indeed. Well it was great to see your trains running round,you have a wonderful layout Oscar and i always look forward to seeing it in action. Well have a wonderful Christmas with your family and I am going to have my cup of tea and a toasted tea cake as always. Keep safe Oscar, have a great time.👍🚂🚃

Good afternoon Martin, thank you again for watching and taking the time to share your recollection of the toy shop you visited as a child. Nothing like the of sound of a bell and polished wood floors. There was a bicycle shop in the late 70s I used to visit which had a great bell when opening and closing the door, sadly, no polished wood floor but bright yellow very worn out & cracked lino . Hope you're having a great time over the festive season. All the best. Oscar

Another great video Oscar, plenty of running and some unscheduled mishaps. I didn't get my cup of tea until the end. I did suspect you may get a derailment as the rail car pulled off, because I seem to recollect you saying you didn't set those two points up as a crossover for some reason or other. Travel on your railway is so easy, to get from Dundee to Exeter passengers don't even need the train they just walk from one end of the platform to the other, superb.

Very interesting video Oscar. I found the diesel railcar and trailer in a second hand shop in Brussels earlier in the year - I was wondering why they came in two simple cardboard trays rather than full packaging, so now I know they came as part of a train set. Mine are almost identical to yours except they do not have the interior seating, although there is some basic cab detail. Now I know that this was optional before 1963, so you have helped me identify mine as most likely 1960-61. Mine have the red buffer bars and the roundel insignia - also just on one side of the power car, so this must be deliberate rather than because of the decals wearing off. I would love for Santa to bring me the railcar centre unit, but I think this is beyond even his powers of present giving! Have a great festive season and thanks for sharing your wonderful historical Tri-ang collection! Ben

Hello Oscar merry Christmas to you and your family great video but I’m curious do you operate the old block system to prevent the separate controllers cross polarising as I’m setting up a triang / Dublo 2 rail set up at the moment
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley 7 ай бұрын
Hi, I'm not sure if you would refer to it as a block system, both inside line and outside lines can be operated completely independently of each other, they are isolated by points and a few rail brakes. There are three points on the railway where you can cross from one circuit to the other. Both circuits can also be joined and operated as one railway from either side of the controller chosen. Thanks for watching. Oscar

Curiously the image of the DMU at 29:20 shows two brake vehicles, although it doesn't seem to have the metal motor bogie. Could they have been sold like this at first, and the mould was altered at a later date to create the driving trailer vehicle.

Hi to you & to all your family as well.😁😁 Firstly , thankyou again soo much for putting all your videos on your youtube channel on for us all to get educated and the entertainment value that we all get from your videos as well your knowledgable facts and running sessions on your layout. The DMU rail cars are a favorite of mine and love the sound of them. Where the dmu derailed would it be better to make the both sets of points change direcrions but with just one switch like in the other part of your layout. Or do,you use tne short litlle strahgt bit for loco or carriage storage. I always wanted a set of these when I was a kid but never got the chance to but now have many sets as ive said to you prevoiusly. I can run either 3 , 4 ,5 or 6 or an 8 car sets and i may even devote the dmu's to a section of my layout (yep I still havent built it yet but i will) as i have bougnt a few sets of the newer style dmus as well with the thick single yellow stripe and the exhaust stacks at the ends on each cariage. The newer ones run like a clock too and super quiet. Its also great to see your layout altogether as it given me some ideas for my layout when i get around to it. I wanted to ask you about the dark blue shell bogie open axle tanker that is 2 cars behind the yellow dock shunter on your layout. I bought a blue shell tanker the same and a red ICI tanker and both of them have triang & made in england on the bottom of the tankers but has no R.? numbers on either of them. Do you know if they have an R.??? that goes on either of them. The red ici tanker has ici and has 357 under it which is on the sides of it. Could that be the R number ? I got the blue and the red red ICI tanker with no R numbers on them and got 2 lms Caledonian coaches (morone lms colour with the yellow striping) and they don't have an R number them either. So did triang just get to a stage where they thought oh well no more need to put an R number on them due to fact they had the hornby/triang couplers and were a common thing on them as ive found most of them have the R number but only on the earlier triang bits. Anyhoo thanks again and hope you and your family have a great Christmas. Cheers mate from john in Australia.

Morning John. Hope you've been enjoying the festive season Nice to hear about your collection, the Newer DMU's sound like they're going to be lovely items to run. I think there are numbers, you're looking for are as follows. Blue Shell Tanker possibly available blue , red, yellow and green R.117 ICI Bogie Caustic Tanker Red & Blue R.247 Murgatroyds Bogie Chlorine Tank Wagon R.349 Poly Sar Tank Wagon R.3490 L.M.S. Corridor Brake 1st R.423 L.M.S. Corridor Full 3rd R.422 Possibly numbers were taken off or not used in the first place as some parts were common across a number of different models, leaving just colour changes to the plastics used and printing to create different variations. Manufacturers name may also be taken off to reduce costs in the future, possibly a number of items in the range were sold onto third parties to be retail on the different brand names. Wish you all the best for the coming year. Oscar
