Arron seems like an old hat to Bahamas flying, even knows the cheeky shortcut of “being unable” to get coverage & getting it a 7000 AGL from Miami. I do plenty of flying in the UK 🇬🇧 & am lucky enough to have at times a new Diamond DA62. A fantastic aircraft. In a climb for example around 14,000ft u burn around 8.7 a side n that’s in a climb. It burns Jet A so much cheaper n the dual engine capacity n the perfect safety & redundancy built in u can climb & cruise FULLY LOADED @ 14kft on 1 engine. It’s all fully push rod controls so u can get amazing feel for the aircraft n the tech inside is amazing, the build quality between say a SR22 n a DA62 is as some customers say “the difference between Chevy & Mercedes”. The DA62 being the Merc n that’s a huge compliment as we all know that SR22 isn’t to shabby. Also u get full FADEC, starting an engine is just like a car. U pi a button n that’s it, no un ups needed. I’m trying to wrangle in a trip across the pond in England to the USA. I think if u had the chance to fly in a DA62 u would fall in love with it n u still have 3 rows of seats 💺. I suggest that anyone looking at an SR22 to checkout the Diamond DA 62 as it doesn’t cost a lot more but is twice t aircraft.

Definitely an interesting video! I always enjoy learning how it works on the other side of the pond, since our customs checks are a bit different in Europe, but remain similar in several aspects 😉 I hope I’ll get the opportunity to fly in the Bahamas one day! That was funny when that pilot politely announced his intentions to take off. It totally brought back a memory of when I was in the early stages of my flight training. After completing our run up my instructor told me to notify the tower that we were ready to take off. Sounded simple enough but this is what I said; Pontiac tower Cessna Nxxxxx (can't remember tail number) is cleared for takeoff runway 27L north bound departure. The controller quickly responded with a severe tongue lashing. She made it very clear exactly the mistake I made and she was very rude about it. I felt horrible and shocked at the same time, lol. My instructor tried to console me by stating that he didn't like the controller either. He said that she's was very well known to bark out commands with a nasty disposition. Some things you'll never forget! 😊

That DEKAL arrival is just a bit nuts... if you ignore what's under you, it's simple, but they've got you stooging around out there forty, fifty miles off the coast at 3000... in the Baron it's probably no big but if you're in a Pilatus or a 210 or whatever with just one fan and it decides to go south out there, you're in for a swim... :( Much rather get a lot closer in before getting down that far. Coyote on the runway?! MEEP MEEP!!!

Great series. Crustables, huh? Well, if you don't have a galley onboard, I guess it's the best you can do! :p In other news, I FINALLY am working again, and this time, it's in Aerospace. I'll be doing repair work on Commercial avionics. If you think the paperwork to get in and out of the Bahamas was bad, you ought to see the paperwork to test and repair something like a Flight Management Computer for the airlines! But, I think I'm going to have fun!

Actually, I'm nowhere near airplanes, or even an airport. The job is in downtown Renton, Washington, working for Honeywell Aerospace. They have LRUs, or Line Removeable Units, which are pulled by the maintenance crews at the airport maintenance facility, replaced, and then shipped into us. We test and repair and then return the units to the company where they are either put into a rotation pool or returned to the aircraft. But, between the FAA, Transport Canada, the Europeans and the Chinese it's amazing all the paper work you have to do. If I'm lucky, I might qualify for a FAA Repairman Certificate in two years or so after OJT. I would like that on next to my PPL! LOL

If i am not mistaken that would be a 1976 Barron 58? Am I reading the instruments correctly? 178 MPH IAS and 151 MPH GS on the LED display. If so, very impressive considering the head wind component. I also notice no ADF receiver, do you folks still use NDB anymore? How were you able to get that STAR on your iPad, do you have access to the internet over the ocean? Excellent video; keep them coming!
@GaryMCurran
@GaryMCurran 6 жыл бұрын
It's a 1966 B55. With the advent of GPS navigators like the GTN650 in his airplane, ADF and DME gear has gone the way of the Dodo Bird. As to the STAR, or any chart for that matter, you have a subscription to something like Jeppessen, and you download all the charts you need. If you only fly in a portion of the country, you may only download the charts for that portion of the country.
@cherifbar
@cherifbar 6 жыл бұрын
Looks darn good for a 1966 model. Obviously the plane is not as dated as I appear to be. Thanks for the reply.
@GaryMCurran
@GaryMCurran 6 жыл бұрын
Well, it has an updated panel, and if the interior was redone, it would be hard to tell from something newer. The B55s had the ability for six seats, but normally just had four, whereas the B-58 did have six seats, the rear four mostly arranged in a 'club' configuration, the second row facing the third row. It would be impossible with a cursory glance at the panel, since pro-1984 panels were all the same. You wouldn't tell the difference there. A lot of it is 'pride of ownership' and how well the pilot takes care of his airplane. But, a well taken care of airplane will age well, especially when the model doesn't change significantly over the life of the design.

You and me both! I figured if I win the Powerball, $300 and some odd million dollars, I'll take the cash option. IF I can get my medical back, I'll restart my training, pick up the rest of my ratings through CFIIM, but a couple of airplanes along the way (put them up for Leaseback) until I get all my ratings, and then buy something like a Cessna 414 or 421C. But, with all that money, I'm single and will never spend it all, family gets some, but the people here on KZfaq that I enjoy watching, Baron Pilot, Jerry W, Flight Chops, Steveo and a couple of others, will all get some nice 'presents.' BP will get another IFD440 and an Avidyne 600 indicator, as well as a EDM-960 and probably a G500TXi. If I can bring happiness to others, why not? :) Of course, I need to win that jackpot first. Yes, I do play, but not often. :p
