thanks for answering my question. Pedro Rizzo tells a great story on the grappling central podcast about how Ruas had a broken hand going into UFC 7. Because Ruas didn't understand english, his coach translated the american doctors orders not to fight as he says "your hands fine"...the rest is history.

Our coach pretty much does the same combos every time. He lets us do 1 2 sidestep 2 or double 1 body cross repeat combo 1. We aren't allowed to drill after training because we finish our training last and are supposed to leave before a curtain time. What should I do?

Ya I can relate to what you're saying about the appreciation of knowledge. Reminds me of when you hear about the great scientist who used to study by candlelight because they couldn't afford or didn't have electricity or those old kung fu movies where the student secretly watches the master then practice and learns the moves that way. I'm also curious to know what your thoughts are on those Gracie University videos, do you think it's better to learn by watching over and over or go to class and perhaps miss what the teacher showed or demonstrated. You can hear but doesn't mean you're listening, you can watch but not necessarily observing. Thanks.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but this is your latest video so thought I'd pop it here. I've just taken up wrestling to incorporate into my BJJ. I'm just wondering if you have done a video or if there are any good resources out there on how to incorporate things like shooting for single and doubles in a street situation. It seems like it'd explode your knees to do it the way it's taught indoors in an outdoor situation

HI, Firas do you agree with what the Gracie System teaches, which is that you only need GJJ to have a very high chance against any larger opponent. And that you don't need to learn other martial arts to learn to defend yourself. The only reason to learn other arts is so that you can win on the MMA Score Cards?

I want to know about your opinion that teaching foreiners, specially can't speak english at all. Actually I'm korean and there are many ufc fighters like stun gun, kz, superboy. but in korea mma community, mma fans said that fighters who have potential or ranked within 10th should go overseas gym like att, tristar, evolve etc. they insist that our korean coaches's teacing skills bad and can't keep up with new style and don't have many, various sparring partners. In some points, i'm agree. but i think that the most important things to make better fighters is communications skills between coach and fighter. Even though coach is perfect(like you zahabi), if foreigners fighter don't understand what coach said, and don't know coaches intention, it is a null. So what do you think about teaching foreign fighters who can't speak english at all? Also i want to know about possibilty of asian champions. always appreciate your wisdom. - from S.korea. seung jun(call me jun)
@orangeiceice12
@orangeiceice12 7 жыл бұрын
email him at the link in the description. i think Korean coaches are good. look at doo ho choi. however, I think there is an asian mentality about technical perfection which gives Korean fighters problems against fighters with unorthodox styles. i would stay in Korea, but why not travel for a short trip to TriStar or evolve? i myself am going to Korea to train with DK yoo. he teaches systema, not MMA, but still. first I am going to Toront, then Montreal. you can also travel in asia to train. tiger muay thai in Thailand. there is a Japanese kickboxer named tenshin nasukawa and I would give my left nut to train with whoever taught him. think outside l the box. weigh your options. regards my friend

great discussion. question, though, about the "complete fighter". is that really possible? how long would it really take to master all aspects, or many aspects, of MMA? seems to me that the possible variety means you have to make some choices on how your gonna develop, and as you emphasize one aspect, you lose another. most sports, i completely agree, but MMA has such a large potential skillset, and the potential level is so high, that I wonder if it's really feasible to really master it all. perhaps if they were raised from childhood working all the arts, like a child in a samurai family...
