This video shows how to remove the SAI (secondary air injection) on a 2006, 2007, or 2008 Triumph Daytona 675 motorcycle. The bike in the video is my own personal 2007 Triumph Daytona 675.
This video may be applicable to the Triumph Speed Triple 675 as well or for other model years; however, I did not do the research to verify this information. All suggestions and steps taken in this video are for viewing purposes only. I do not advocate or recommend doing this to your own Triumph, nor will I be held responsible for any potential failures or problems that may arise from following the suggestions in this video.
The steps taken to access and remove the SAI servo are as follows:
1) Remove gas tank (8 mm bolt and sleeve toward rear; two 5 mm Allen bolts at the front)
2) Un-clip gas tank so it may be fully removed (two wiring clips; two overfill hose lines; one main fuel line [a small amount of gas will spill from this hose])
3) Once gas tank is fully removed, un-clip the ECU (two wiring clips) and the air intake sensor (one wiring clip) from the top of the air box, then unscrew the air box cover (eight 7 mm screws)
4) Remove entire air box (loosen six 4 mm Allen bolts on velocity stacks [trumpets]) and single bolt at the front (I can't remember what size; probably 8 mm Allen).
5) After removing entire air box, locate the SAI servo toward the left hand side near the frame. Un-clip this servo, pull it off from its metal tab, then release all three vacuum hoses as depicted in the video.
6) Plug or cap the three nozzles that you released the vacuum hoses from. I recommend first trying to find 1/2 inch rubber vacuum hose caps and pinching them on the nozzles with some stainless steel hose clamps. Another way to do this would be to run a heater or vacuum hose from one nozzle to the other and simply blocking off the nozzle to the air box. PLEASE NOTE: Although I mentioned in the video to potentially use plastic PVC and super glue to block off the nozzles, I DO NOT recommend this method (it may work, but the plastic may melt from the hot exhaust gases; I wouldn't trust the plastic to hold up over a long period of time, but it's your call). Instead, please refer to the note attached in the video for more information on the different ways that will work.
7) Wrap the leftover clip from the SAI that is still attached the bike's main wiring harness. A quick wrap with electrical tape should be fine (simply done to keep the prongs from being exposed to moisture and keep them from corroding).
8) Re-install the air box, ECU and intake sensor clips, and fuel tank. Then change the ECU settings via TuneECU or another tuning software to disable the SAI servo (this will prevent you from receiving a check engine light fault code). Before restarting the bike, I recommend cycling the fuel pump a few times to ensure there is no air in the fuel line (since we unplugged it; if you don't do this, the bike may run rough momentarily).
Voila! Now you are finished. I hope I may be able to help someone out. Thanks for watching, and ride safely!

Nice video, I remember doing this to both my 675's. I did however buy the block off plates. I think they were cheap at around 40-50 bucks but it removes the plates that are there now with the nipple part. It also comes with a plug so you can plug the left side of the air box. Overall a nice kit.

Sounds like it would be a more professional way to achieve the same result (for not much cash either). Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the video man, i was wondering if I could get away with just plugging the OEM plates instead of buying expensive block off plates and that's exactly what you showed and how to get rid of check engine.

What’s up the 1/2 inch holes you covered arnt you supposed to have a tube to connect them or are they supposed to be closed off? I’m trying to stunt it out and add a “clean air mod”

I just ran across this video, I'm new to the daytona 675 riders, but I bought an 06 not running so doing some research. Question: Is this considered the PCV system? And will it build up excess pressure in the crankcase if you block off the openings coming out of the cylinder head ?(which usually results in oil leaks developing in blown gaskets or weak hoses)

Hi Matt, you will most likely trigger a check engine light if you perform this modification; however, if you install the free software "TuneECU" to a laptop or PC/Mac, you can use an OBDII connector to plug into your Triumph's ECU. There, you can disable the SAI along with being able to tune/disable many other items as well. After disabling it within your bike's computer, you won't have a check engine light pop on.

From my research, the main reasons to make this modification are for minimal weight savings, to eliminate the possibility of a CEL (check engine light) due to its malfunction, to partially eliminate "popping" noises associated with deceleration (though this has more to do with proper air/fuel mapping, in my opinion), and to help with performance tuning (if you have the SAI system putting a bunch of extra air into the exhaust, then it may throw off your oxygen sensor reading when doing air/fuel tuning on the dyno). There's many opinions on whether this modification is necessary or worth it; some people believe there is no point to remove it, others believe it should always be removed. In my experience, I didn't notice any major performance differences associated with removing this system.

Do you know how to fix gaslight on a -06 triumph daytona 675 ? It never lights up when gas is below certain level.

I am unsure how to tackle that problem. My recommendation would be to try checking the Triumph Daytona 675 forums for threads people have made with a similar problem. Good luck!

Thx for this video. One question. Its necesary tuneECU for disable SAI? Thanks
@SeanStettnichs
@SeanStettnichs 8 жыл бұрын
+Raul Morales No, it is not necessary to disable the SAI in TuneECU, but I would highly recommend it. If you don't disable the SAI in TuneECU and you remove the SAI from the bike, you will most likely trigger a check engine light to come on.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I have a 2010 Street Triple R with a straight through exhaust. The backfiring on the overun was out of control, so my mechanic removed the SAI. When revving the bike at standstill, the popping was mainly gone. But under load on deceleration (ie when rolling off the throttle when actually riding the bike rather than just when revving it at standstill) the popping was still there (although not as bad). Could it be possible that this is because the mechanic didn't properly shut off the three pipes? I will take the tank and airbox off to investigate but this would seem to make sense to me as it feels like there is still some air getting in there (causing the popping) although not as much as when the SAI was in there.

Also, if what I suspect is true, will this affect the mapping (ie will it need to be remapped)?

+Michael Crichton I appreciate the good words and glad I could help. I'm certainly not an expert nor am I a mechanic, but from what limited understanding I have, I believe your theory could be on par with what's going on with your bike's backfiring. I would certainly pop the tank off and see whether the ends are plugged. Regarding your question about the mapping, I am a very firm believer that anytime you are adjusting the amount of air driven in or exiting a motorcycle, it would be "optimal" to have it re-mapped. Will it really make a big difference if you leave the current map as-is? No, I truly don't think you are adjusting the bike enough to have it affect the performance in a large way. With that said, however, I still believe your only way to achieve maximum efficiency would be to re-tune the air/fuel map. I hope I could help! Thanks again for the comment!

+Sean Stettnichs hey Sean it's me again. So when you sent me this message, I took the tank off and checked whether the ends had been plugged. Now the pipe which went from the SAI to the airbox had been plugged - in the same way that you had done in your video. But one thing that you didn't mention in your video, is the other plug that goes into the airbox on the other side - there's an air hose that goes into that from somewhere in the engine. In your video you remove the airbox and that hose appeared to have already been disconnected (or maybe it's not even on the daytona). There was some mesh stuff covering the hole in the airbox, but when I took the mesh out there was some weird oily, petrolly substance that had gathered in there. I am wondering whether this might be the problem - do you know what I mean? Any help much appreciated.

OK, worked it out. It's the crankcase breather vent that goes into the airbox.

It's also so that you can get an accurate O2 reading when you go to tune it. If you have that system putting a bunch of extra air into the exhaust then its gunna throw your reading off when you have it on the dyno

Sean Stettnichs thank you! I appreciate that! I’m trying to do an engine swap. I’m currently getting ready to take the throttle bodies of the bike. Still have a ways to go lol. I think the throttle bodies are going to be the most difficult part of the whole process, but I could be wrong.
