Fun fact: Because Tom Cruise created one of Tropic Thunder's best characters, he demanded that his input be put in to the finished product, and he was willing to learn whatever it took to get the job done. It was, and it was glorious. Les Grossman proved so popular and so in-demand that Cruise agreed to bring him to the MTV Movie Awards back in 2010. It's amazing what hilarious mid-credits dancing can do for your career. "I take classes all the time to learn things or I want to improve a skill… singing, music, something I’m studying. I take dance classes and I took hip-hop classes and then I’ll find a character to put that with." After that earlier tidbit, Tom Cruise circled back to Les Grossman and said what everyone in the room (and probably on the planet) wanted to hear: "I said, ‘Look, I’d love to play this character, but I want to have fat hands and I’m gonna dance.'
@kosmosyche11 ай бұрын
I wonder if he had a specific real life person in mind, when he created the character. I mean, fat hands seem like an awfully specific and unusual detail to be insisting upon. I'm sure he saw plenty of guys to draw inspirations from in the business. lol

yeah, cuz Ben Stiller said most of the movie scenes were either unscripted or even improvised, cuz that's mostly how comedy movies worked
@VideoMask933 жыл бұрын
I'd be surprised if the whole rant was unscripted, but I bet Cruise didn't tell McConaughey he was going to start yelling. "Oh yeah, I'm just gonna be real deadpan, Liam Neeson style"

That's what movies should be about. People playing characters they don't look like at all. Now "acting" has become about star power and using an actor's face to boost sales. The best performances are when the actor is barely or unrecognizable, in ex: Judge Dredd, Bane, Tom Cruise and Robert DJ in this movie, The Joker, Sherman etc

@ CVAZprime.......Nice to know there is still at least one other 'thinking' person in this brain-dead nation of ours besides myself. DreamWorks should produce a spin-off feature film built around the Les Grossman character with Tom as the lead. Think of all the shenanigans that could be worked into a premise about a self-centered, ego maniac, narcissistic, unscrupulous, maniacal studio head; the script would practically write itself. If well written Tom would have a shoe-in for an Academy nomination, and perhaps garnering his first win. Fuck it.....I think I'll pitch the idea myself. Now if only I could find Steven Spielberg's cell phone number I misplaced a couple of weeks ago. --Kpayton911 12/21/14
