Caught several rainbow trout and my first brown trout. I lost a giant fish and had to return to see what i could get. The fish were really hitting but after the water rose it was hard to get anything. Such a great time and beautiful fish. Hpe to go back soon for more, and maybe a giant.

As I was watching I noticed a few things that I would do different first it's always better to set the hook downstream if possible and don't set the hook to hard cause trout have very soft mouths. And one of my fav ways to catch them is a berkley powerbait worm (pink, chartreuse and natural a are the best colors) drifting under a bobber works very well! I like to use tiny hooks to size 10 or 12

It's so much fun to hear someone so excited about catching trout on spinners. It's a great way to catch them, and up your chances for a bigger fish ( as you obviously saw in the beginning of the video! ). Loved watching you fish the Toccoa. Thanks so much for posting up this video. I've been meaning to go trout fishing again for about three years now, and this video has inspired me to get off my butt and go. :) Thanks!

I’m about to go to Blueridge and booked a full day wade fishing in the Toccooa river fly fishing. I was looking for videos to find potential spots to go to. I was watching your video and thought it looked familiar. It turns out it’s the exact spot I was fishing Christmas week 2022! I caught a bunch of small rainbow and 1 brown at the boat ramp, a few fish here and there walking twords the entrance. 1 rainbow where you caught by the culvert. But nothing in the creek on the other side of the culvert. I’m excited I’ll be back there in a week!

@kne2323
@kne2323 4 жыл бұрын
To answer your question, I'd stay with your setup. I normally use a 4lb with a light/medium action. Drag set pretty loose to really wear those big ones down before trying to land them since it quickly turns into a finesse game. With the lower water levels in the beginning, Trout Magnet will really shine but not as much action as using a spinner. I'm guessing that was a dandy brown that got off. Next time!

Lotta fun son! I use 6 lb test and medium rod for all of my trout fishing and never lost but one fish (and I have caught some monster trout in my years) and that was probably a steelhead plus I didn't have much access to the bank so no way to play him.. just a small area that I could chuck a lure in the water at. So, your setup is right and I am gonna go down to the outdoor store after thanksgiving and get a couple of good trout lures that we use up here and send them to ya.. Those German browns can be a real good fighting fish.. don't forget they have a bit softer mouth so you can't give them any slack or they will get off. I use a lot of barbless hooks when I fish so just a moment of slack will lose a fish.. thanks John.. have a blessed day tomorrow and every day my friend.

Looks like I'll have to visit that river sometime. Losing a big fish is always disheartening.....just like missing a shot at a big deer, but this is what it's all about. The best thing we can do as sportsmen is to learn from our losses. Maybe next time we will be more successful. Good video John, those rainbows are some chunky specimens, and the big one at the beginning was probably a big "Brownie". A friend of mine, someone I worked with, caught a 25 pound Rainbow. He taught me the technique. I've caught Rainbows there, but nothing that big. You need to go to a place called Lee's Ferry in Arizona. It's just below Glenn Canyon Dam and it's all cold bottom water. The fish are super healthy and you never know when you might get super lucky. I should make a video.

My trout rod is normally a light or ultralight rod with 4-6lbs. test. I've never hooked a giant but my PB Rainbow was 22" long and my PB Brown was 21" long. Both caught on Roostertail spinners. That looks like an amazing stretch of river. You've done good with small cranks in other areas, I wouldn't be afraid to go back with that or an even slightly bigger stick style crank or jerk bait to tempt bigger fish. As you know trout can be very aggressive if you find that trigger.

Another awesome video. Man, that big one you lost looked like a nice one judging by the way he was peeling your drag... I don't know of anything you could have done differently besides maybe tightening your drag a little bit, but running small line I can understand why you keep it a little loose. Anyways, trout can be very line shy at times so small line is always better in my opinion. Tight lines and God bless you and all that you do

Maybe loosen the break a little more and take your time, if you have a big one. Trouts mouth is quite soft and if you force them too much, the hole of the hook gets bigger and then you loose the fish. 2nd thing is your net, I have a similar one, but its only good for wading (I use it for seatrout in the baltic sea). Better get a foldable net, with a little longer and telescopic grip. Especially when you fish from bridges, that may come in handy. Greets
