This video shows you how to install a control arm on your 2002-2006 Honda CR-V. Control arms are a crucial part of the suspension system of your vehicle. They not only carry the load of the vehicle to the wheel, but they typically also maintain its alignment. Control arms are typically large and strong, so you may be surprised it needs replacing. They contain rubber bushings for smoother rides at the cost of eventual wear. When those bushings run out, that can have a negative impact on the ride and safety of your vehicle.

Nobody else seems to remove the knuckle to do this job. The arm can be separated from the ball joint and wiggled out of the way and back in fairly easily with everything else still in place. Tighten the rear control arm bolt using a long extension with the car on the ground so the bushing is in a neutral position at normal ride height.

Yeah it’s way too many steps. He has new pads and rotors so they come out easy. Try that with old rotors, and you’ll run into unnecessary surprises like a seized rotor to the hub. Also like he mentioned, you can also risk damaging the CV boots, especially if they’re old.

He took it out to replace lower control arm ball joint which is pressed to the spindle. Stupid design. That ball joint would be better put on the lower control arm to avoid all this removal

Did the same on my 2001 Honda CRV. Slightly different part but same exercise. I can’t over emphasise the need to tie back the cv shaft avoiding it sliding out of the the drive shaft coupling. I ended up having to remove the cv shaft and reassemble the drive shaft joint. A lot of extra work!

There's No need to remove the brake caliper or the Shock bolt's, if you do Then your going to have to have it realigned.... Remove sway fitting first Ball joint fitting 2nd Then the other 2 Large bolts on the Control arm 3rd and 4 th...

I watched this video yesterday, and today, i successfully replaced my right side control arm on a '06 crv. However, i only removed 2 bolts and two nuts. Im not a mechanic, which is why i looked for a video like this.

No he's not, I've replaced dozens of these control arms on both CR-V's and Elements. There is absolutely no need to remove the rotor, caliper, axle locknut and spindle from the strut assembly, he'd never survive working in a flat rate shop...

What size pickle fork did you use?

Removing the rotor/hub assembly definatley makes this job easier, while it may not be required for this honda, for most front wheel drive vehicles you will not remove the lower ball joint easily as the axle is over the nut and the axle must be removed to get the ball joint nut off. Plus who wants to work around a spindle asswmbly dangling in the way....
