In a survival sense, fighting them is really not worth the reward, imagine so hard fighting them when you just get skulk catalyst. Mojang added the drops for the sake of technical Minecraft, in this case, player like Ilmango. They said it shouldn't be beneficial to "fight" them, not farm them. Warden is mob to be avoided at all cost, and not worth fighting them.

@@midaspool6229 I don't know much about that, but I think it's spawning in multiple chamber and immediately go to nether before the 10 second cooldown reset. I could be wrong though.

@@Grittled I know how it works, it just amazes me that Ilmango finds a way to make the mobs intended to be useless useful in such a way. It seems strange to see multiple wardens dying per second because they are intended to be scary.

@@Grittled the cooldown is assigned to a player. That’s why there could spawn multiple within 10 seconds. The wardens spawn inside of the portals and are immediately send to the one portal in the nether.

Given the bottle of enchanting always kind of sucked I really hope they don't remove this. Perhaps give us a more difficult setup required to get this much catalyst (possibly not involving farming a mob to get it, maybe something like those intensive bonemeal farms) so it's more balanced. I really just wish the game had a better way to store XP and this seems to be the best way to do it

If I remember correctly, their goal was to try and replace OP xp farms, so they essentially achieved that.

Honestly, the only thing stopping them is the lack of reason to farm them (because Wardens were useless), but with this much portable XP...

its fascinating how easy the hard things can be farmed. A wither farm is pretty easy, a warden setup to, despite droping one of the hardest to get items. But something like farming wood, the first irem you get in the game, requiere a very complicated setup.

you can do the nether wood saplings with a bonemeal farm and do it that way, smart piston and observer setup I don't like duping and especially tnt either we should have renewable sand and be able to craft dispensers easier etc hold shift and ctrl to do all items in inventory or something a new dimension with a nether to overworld distance style portal but instead of 8 blocks make it 100 blocks overworld to new dimension 1 block and make rails much faster with new materials, 5x faster than activator rails use copper in tools armor and redstone copper should be in all redstone to make slightly different effects imagine a copper observer for example similar but different enough intrinsic motivation, rpg style, magic power spells and system, mana, actual use for levels etc

At some extend they are still useless in vanilla unless you run a plugin like slimefun / runes that consume much xp . Hypotetically you need many resources and minimum of prot 2 diamobd armor to survive melee attack & others farm run on less xp but give resources. The point is you have already all you needed

It’s still insane to me that a full nether drop onto pointed drip stone is still not enough to kill them. So much HP. Also, I died to my first warden this week. A skeleton shot me out of a water stream into the deep dark. At least the warden killed the skeleton before getting me (I tried stacking up, but the cave was 2 blocks too short for me to get out of range in time)

@@YounesLayachi nope, it’s a new world, I was trying to get past the deep dark so I could get my first diamonds. I literally had basic unenchanted tools and iron gear.

this is an absolute game changer in warden farming, with being able to run the farm remotely. thank you very much for this! Edit: just realized this can also be used as a new player online detector, doesn't even have to be naturally generated shriekers

wouldnt it be an "offline detector" ? i think once you log out the arrow gets "disconnected", or am i wrong?

The extra two seconds of time between Warden spawns might be caused by the delay of the Skulk Sensor activating the piston. Maybe if the piston was powered by a ten second timer it could bring the time back down to ten seconds? Even though it would be slightly less compact

the sensor just updates the piston too fast. if you place redstone dust between the sensor and piston, it brings the 49-50 tick cycle up to 50 ticks and you lose the 2 seconds of waiting for another piston cycle before it hits 200 tick cooldown

Mojang: The Warden is a force of nature, not something you battle, something you avoid, you get nothing from fighting it. Mojang, later: Ok the Warden drops a sculk catalyst now because ideas are hard and it'll make it farmable. But the Warden is still super scary guys. KZfaqrs: Check it out, Warden farm is the best XP farm, more XP and you get it in a portable form! Mojang, in 1.20: We added an advancement for killing a Warden... But they still super scary guys, for real, don't try to kill them. edit: .... I Just realized this completely neuters sculk which was meant as the XP storage medium....

They neutered skulk the moment it would only drop 1 xp per block combined with only players making it drop xp. 53 catalysts is one full pickaxe 1 catalyst is 20 skulk So 1060 or around 16.6 stacks are needed to repair a pickaxe. (disregarding the additional xp costs of repairing the hoe breaking the skulk.)

One day me and a friend made a trap (Warden egg on dispenser), I activated it by accident. Then the next day we trained in creative mode a way which worked 3 times. Dig a 3x5 2 block deep hole, closed trapdoors on the long parallels and shoot from afar.

Nice video as always. If you get the timing just right, you might be able to disable all natural warden spawning for a player because you keep resetting the global cool-down timer using an arrow-based farm like this at home. Easy deep dark raids!

I think we should try and convince Mojang to allow wardens to be summoned from placed blocks by feeding the block nether star/s to make it turn “active” or something

nether star seems too hard and very strange since the nether star is as the name implies a nether object so to reactivate a sculk shrieker a overworld item requiring a nether item might make people think that the warden is powered by a nether star or smth it just complicates the lore too much so i believe some sort of loot will be enough maybe an echo shard or 3 echo shard put together in a crafting recipe AEA AEA AEA A= Air E= Echo Shard should be good

@@johnipjaymartus703 the netherstar pattern was originally in the center of the catalyst and the removal of the placed blocks summoning it was supposedly added to force players to not be able to summon a boss on others for PVP balance, however i think that requiring the two bosses to trigger its use could be a decent option for balanced yet gated access. Otherwise it would need other, far harder to get materials to really balance out, and most of those are far less renewable.

@@johnipjaymartus703 you need blaze powder and a ghast tear to craft an end crystal. End crystals are naturally occurring in the end, yet you need 2 items from a different dimension in order to craft one. 3 if you count glass, since normal glass and sand can't be found anywhere in the end, only purple glass

Can you make a video going through the top 5 or 10 most efficient ways to make XP in 1.19? As a player returning after 5 years of not playing, it’s really confusing to figure out which XP farm I should build, I’ve heard zombified piglin spawners are nerfed, I don’t know if guardian spawners are as efficient anymore and I think I want to turn my enderman spawner into a sculk sensor and shrieker farm, I’ve heard Kelp is a new way to farm XP efficiently. I would love a video ranking XP farms based on how hard they are to build and effectiveness for 1.19

Honestly I still use an endermen farm. It's so cheap and easy to make and gets you to 30 in just like 1-2 minutes

probably use an enderman farm. There are designs for both Java and bedrock and they are easy to make and setup. Enderpearls are also life savers at times

A zombiefied piglin farm on the nether roof (at build limit) is probably the easiest and more useful in terms of loot that an enderman farm. You can also get pearls from piglin trading (which you can automate using the gold from the zombiefied piglins).

when i first saw him mine the catalysts and saw how long it took as compared to just spamming xp bottles, i thought theres no way im using that.. until i realised he repaired an entire elytra with just 5 catalysts

Really hope that Mojang doesn't change the amount of xp dropped by the catalyst. I will say though, this does seem really OP for the amount of effort it requires. Then again, xp is one of those things that's just a quality of life aspect of the game; having essentially infinite xp at the ready just makes the rest of the game more fun to play.

It would be nice if only Shriekers placed by players didn't spawn Wardens, while naturally generated Shriekers could. Then one could use a Catalyst to generate a Shrieker to spawn a Warden wherever they choose.

@@bable6314 Only shriekers which are generated with the ancient city are capable of summoning Wardens. All other shriekers have the "can summon" ability set to false. As ilmango mentions in the video, the only way to change this is with commands.

This reminds me of the hoglin porkchop farm killing food farm meta, one of the most useful items with zero effort/having to stop playing to afk somewhere for a few hours. I'd love to carry around portable xp, but would probably never build an xp farm again; which is great for some players, but personally I like having multiple locations to chose from to get xp

Funnily enough, by having a global cooldown in the spawning of wardens you also create a very impractical but incredibly funny wireless redstone. Global wireless redstone at wherever you find an ancient city (or maybe the global cooldown also affects player placed ones? That would be cool. If you don’t wanna go the 2No2Name route with the daylight sensors. This might just be the new wireless redstone 🌜👍

DUDE! A guy named Jonas Paladin came up with a way to filter xp orbs by size. If you get rid of the size 3 orbs this can become _the_ fastest way to level! Endermen top out at 60k xp absorbed per hour. Guardians 180k. Only size 17 orbs:612k! The gist of his idea is that only entity processed orbs will absorb other orbs. So you'd keep a bunch of size 3 orbs in entity processing chunks, and funnel your farm output next to them through lazy chunks. Size 3 orbs will get absorbed and size 17 will move along. Catalysts are already faster than any mob farm since they're on average 10 xp per orb, but why not 70% faster? 😏

You could probably set spawns to a bed next to your warden farm then piston the player into a bubblevator that leads to your surface base. That way you auto activate the farm.

To prepare for when they remove Zombie Piglin XP farms, would it be possible to make a system that feeds Skulk Catalysts from a Warden farm to an AFK player who is placing them into a piston loop leading to a blast chamber? If the issue with Skulk Blocks as an auto XP farm is how each orb is only worth 1 XP, wouldn't a Skulk Catalyst auto XP farm solve that problem?

@Blua xd lol that's not true. the bug that exists is that mobs drop xp if they are agro at you even if you didn't kill them directly i.e cramming. so why would zombie piglin farms not work if u just killed them with a sword???

the only way to stop people farming wardens now would be to reduce the xp stored in a shrieker and increase the xp of a normal skulk block

on my set up the arrow keeps disappearing after about 30 seconds, and im on a spigot server so does it most likely have to do with that?

I assume if you log out and log back in it stops working and you need a new arrow? or can you just go near it again like when you die

hmm the bug where the arrow forgets the player assignment upon death could be really interesting. wonder what you could use it for. is this a good method to detect when a player is online? I think 2no2name had a different contraption that worked with cats

Yeah, this can be used to detect online players, just connect it to a redstone lamp with a pulse extender and voila.

I don’t see how that would maximize xp. you get the three on top of the seventeen, so by sorting them wouldn’t you be loosing out on some xp? The idea of an xp sorter is really cool though.

Wait, is the global shrieker cooldown reliable enough to make naturally summoning a warden impossible while the farm is activated remotely?? Because if so that's an absolute gamechanger for ancient city exploration!!

The thing is that between the time it takes for the sensor to activate and deactivate, so the arrow falls again, and the sensor communicating with the shrieker, it is possible to activate another shrieker somewhere else in the world, assuming the 10 seconds cooldown also ends in that time.

The piston cycle shown in the video is 49-50 ticks. The cooldown is 200 ticks. So it takes 5 cycles to activate the shrieker each time. Separating the sensor and the piston so that the piston doesn't update as fast makes the cycle 50-51 seconds. So after 4 cycles (202 ticks) you're finished with the cooldown. There is a 2 tick window in there where you could still spawn a warden making that simple setup about 99% reliable.

Can multiple players shoot their arrows into the same piston and generate more wardens per spawning platform? Seems like you could reduce the obsidian requirements a lot that way.

I think the warden can only spawn if there are no other wardens within a specific range of blocks. Not sure tho

only the player can trigger the shrieker with vibrations, for other entities to work they need to be on top of the shrieker

i wonder what happens if you try to raid another ancient city while you have this farm running. because the global cooldown is always active for your player does that mean that you are essentially warden proof or would this not work?

@@davidbischi You could technically get "player lit" tnt from using an arrow you fired which has flame and is kept alive on a piston such as in their 1m gunwpower per hour farm, can't use tnt duping of course, but can have dispensers placing tnt for you so it can still be automated

The other day I thought about something that didn't end well because the shrieker's cooldown is per player... And with the arrow trick I think it could work out. If the shrieker can only activate every 10s and we force him to always summon the warden on the farm, I could go to an ancient city totally safe, it would be like a "Mob Switch" of only Wardens. E: my dreams have come true

Probably because the arrow has a 12 second cycle (piston has a 2 second cycle and exactly 10 seconds is still inside the cooldown) So every 12 seconds there is a 2 second window were it's out on cooldown

If there was a way to filter xp orbs you could technically filter out the 3 xp orb and only take in the 17 xp orb for a higher xp/hour

Thats easy with entity seperation. The bigger one always drops "first" in the tick and therefore has a lower entity id. ilmango knows this already :)

quick question, why does the arrow trick allow wardens to spawn when you're not anywhere near it? does it load the chunk or something?

Sculk catalysts are only triggered if a player is nearby, or by a player action such as a player-fired arrow. An arrow's despawn timer resets if it gets moved, such as with a piston. I think the farm by itself doesn't load chunks. You need to make a chunk loader to keep it running.

Long story short, when the arrow falls to the piston, the sensor thinks it was shot by a player. and as @batbrain1998 said, you do need a chunk loader unless you are in the spawn chunks.

I'm 30 minutes in with my piston arrow setup surrounded by wool and everything in sight (warden spawn range, 11x11) covered in carpet. I think I finally stopped it from happening. I used the arrow trick with shulkercraft's warden farm. It may not matter but I also dug out 2 blocks below the piston and placed a carpet on that hole's floor.

no, shriekers have a block tag that tells them if they can summon the warden. This is enabled on generated shriekers in the deep dark. but is disabled on shriekers from catalysts or placed by the player or moved by pistons

@@JustJum In the portal version, yes, but if you want to make one without portals and keep everything in the overworld, you will need a chunk loader.
