Diallo Freeman The highest note she played was most likely a G right above the staff. That's a pretty high note for her age. I doubt you can play that high if you're only 9, unless you've been taught from a young age like her.

Amazing for her age, and definitely a prodigy. No other word can explain how good of a job she did.

Jimmy Halsey But the point of my comment is that it is wrong to consider her a "prodigy". Unless her teacher is that awful.
@jimmyhalsey66777 жыл бұрын
So? The girl is 7. Its hard to understand music at that age. Especially trumpet because getting the pitches down is only the first step, then focus on tuning. I taught myself how to play french horn. It takes a while to get the hang of it. Don't just be negative towards a little kid because of what you hear. Think about ot first. Just about everyone is like that when they first start out.
@TheGeorgeH277 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Halsey I'm not being negative to her. I said she is good for her age. Did you even read my comment? I just said that she is not a prodigy. Do you understand what a prodigy is? Because she is not the definition of one.
@jimmyhalsey66777 жыл бұрын
You're dumb. She's 7 years old. Cut the kid some slack. She's brave enough to go out in front of a crowd by herself and perform. I couldn't do that now if I tried. Besides she's still learning. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

Ok guys! Please stop this hate. She is amazing. I play trumpet too! Pretty offensive you guys! Same goes for other trumpeters reading the Somme then. I understand you don’t think she is great, but please stop! I know she is not a prodigy, but in my opinion, Judy is a prodigy. I am not a prodigy on the trumpet, but I still like playing it. now as me being a trumpet player my self and playing for three years now that is what i would consider bad of someone my own age but she is seven so her chops and all that aren't even fully developed yet so i would say that is pretty good for a seven year old
@tbonetime35687 жыл бұрын
oh and also this title is misleading.she is by no means a trumpet prodigy.a trumpet prodigy is someone who can say double tong triple tong not play notes too short and keep them all the same volume and have good and many other things which i am also by no means a prodigy either if someone is going to call me cocky.

She is playing on a 7C. Great job, but she needs a better set up. As a young music teacher about 20 years ago, I happened into Kurt Heisig's music store in Santa Cruz, Ca (now in Monterey). He basically told me that everything I had learned about band was wrong - including the 7C mouthpiece. Being skeptical, he had me A/B my 7C with a Claude Gordon Personal Mouthpiece. Claude, before his passing, had been a good friend and business partner to Kurt. Moreover, Claude was the premiere studio trumpet musician in Hollywood from the 50's through the 70's (e.g. he played the lead on the I Love Lucy's theme song). Long story short, with a CG, I gained 3 notes immediately - plus the tone became so much stronger and clearer; by contrast, the 7C felt like there was a sock in the bell! In fact, the 7C only accidently became so popular, but in the words of my friend (from Bwahwsten), they are 'gah-bage.' My three years tutelage with Prof. Heisig changed my life - and made my bands sound so good! If you read this Kurt, thanks!

The word Prodigy is thrown around too much. I understand she is 7, but it was in a low octave, much too low for the high notes to match. There is also an airy tone to it. I'm not saying I was any better than her, but it just sounded off. I suppose it's fine for her age too.
@lobobaseball22015 жыл бұрын
True when I was seven I couldn't play higher than 1st space F

She is a prodigy for her age. She might not sound that great, but as a high schooler who plays the trumpet, I am very impressed. She is amazing for her age.
@dylanhatton5178 Жыл бұрын
Prodigy isn't based on age, she's just good for a 7-year-old
@livingbass96177 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the reason why the word "prodigy" is being used here is because of her tone. For a 7 year old, she sounds amazing, especially in the lower register.

BenniM Okay? So? She's a kid, she can't be fully experienced yet. It's stupid how you think she can do anything at such a young age. Sure, she's very good with the trumpet, but she didn't have enough time with it to become a master at it.

@liamjones46837 жыл бұрын
The word prodigy is overused, quite frankly, her tone is bad and she is playing in a low octave, but I suppose for 7 years old it's good.

@gotmusic09158 жыл бұрын
Wow! That's incredible for someone her age! You have a beautiful sound!! I'm a trumpet player myself. The one thing I would say needs work is the intonation. First, try to start using the third valve slide on Ds and C#s. Those notes are naturally sharp on the instrument. I realize that it's very possible that your hand isn't big enough yet to reach it, however. Also, sometimes, if you attack a note too hard it goes sharp. This happened with the high G(which was awesome!!!!). This is also a naturally sharp trumpet note so it needs to be lipped down. These are very minute details though. You have so much potential! Keep practicing!!!!🎺🎺
