Something a bit different to start in this video. Sometimes it's good to write down my thoughts and feelings. This is an expression of what happiness means to me, whilst I have been working on my creative outlet, pottery. Not everything works out and that's okay.
I continue with a bigger job than I had anticipated by pressure washing all the algae off the barn structure. Quite satisfying to do, I hope it's the same to for you as a viewer.

Welcome to Living in the Loire, we are a family in rural France, renovating previously poorly converted barns.
We aim to do most of the work ourselves, being as frugal and as eco as possible. We are learning on the job and we hope to share the skills we pick up along the way.
When possible we will take you on a tour of the region (the garden of France) sharing with you the numerous chateaux, towns and markets.
As well as the house we will be transforming the garden, bringing part of it back to its previous use as a potager. This is our dream and one of the main reasons of leaving the city to move to the countryside in France.
Join us on our journey!

Dear Brook and Rebecca, I hope you know that your videos bring a lot of joy to our lives. They do 😊

What I've learned about happiness is that you are only able to recognize it in your memories. Stop seeking it in the present; because it's certainly there. Watching your children so happy and carefree is evidence enough.

Whatever that may be, the process will teach us so much about ourselves. The process will open doors and windows to who we are, who we are becoming, and a map to where we want to be. The process is part of life, a gem. Part of that process is to be "alive" in your life, always.

Very stoic introduction, very well explained and I bet relevant to a lot of people. Took me a lot of years to appreciate the process and not be so focused on the result. You've got it a lot quicker than I did.

It's still a work in progress. In a society that seems focused only on results it can be tricky to retrain yourself. Especially when sometimes the processes aren't that enjoyable!

For me the key word is satisfaction rather than happiness. Working/living/loving well often leads me to an experience of deep satisfaction with my todays and yesterdays, and sometimes that yields moments of real happiness and joy. The never-full cup slowly fades. Much love to you my friend...

I am an Artist and your Pottery is absolutely beautiful. As you are conserving money on the high cost of wood; many people have done away with non-essential items. Do not get discouraged; every great Artist has had to persevere. God is good and he gave you a gift, continue to use it and move forward. 😉

Many of us who are not brave enough, or just don't want to be on KZfaq understand your life and progress. When we choose to keep our life simple it is still very difficult to find balance. Contentment is a skill few achieve. Hang on together. That is what is important.

Loved the intro, your voice is very calming and you eloquently described your aims for your life. We live in the UK but in a quiet part of Berkshire and love the feeling of being at one with nature and exploring creativity so I totally get what you are trying to achieve. Loved your pottery, even if it didn't work out as you had hoped, it's very beautiful. On a lighter note I am in awe that you managed to pressure wash the barn ceiling without apparently getting drenched which is what happens to me if I am let loose with the pressure washer😅

Think this was one of my favourite videos. I love your dark pottery. Sometimes oops or disappointments in the creative process can become the most successful. That goes for making videos too. My daughter on her channel(Anna Dueck) is learning that. The one she thinks isn’t the greatest does the best.

The first few minutes of this video spoke to me directly. I feel so young and lost sometimes. It's comforting to see that people older and wiser than me are grappling with the same set of questions and discomforts I do. Life really is an ongoing journey, and it is my task to take and give what I can along that journey, not rush to some idealistic expectation of a destination. I feel like I've watched this at just the right moment, thank you.

Brook, As this is a very busy time of year with harvesting the garden, school starting for at least #1 Son, dealing with illnesses that inevitably follow from new friends, working on your pottery for upcoming holidays, perhaps even closing the studio in the village, waiting for the new power washer and completing removal of algae in the barn, and yes, preparing yet another video or two, and then, yes, surely there must be more things on your to-do list, even a long overdue break from it all, know that your admirers are waiting patiently for your next video. Was that a “run on sentence?” Yes. I’m sending you, Rebecca and the boys my love, knowing how difficult life is for you all sometimes. My hope is that you and yours are healthy and happy. 🤞 🙂

We are all our worst critics. If it doesn’t sell then I would reexamine my process otherwise I would tell myself I am perfectionist and people aren’t looking to buy perfection as it costs too much. Perfection takes too much time. Most of us out here can’t do what you did with your pottery and are your customers. If we say it is good you just have to believe it. I once looked for invitations to my pity party and couldn’t find them and my doctor told me “that’s because it is a party of one”. Life sucks for everyone at times but it passes. Preacher once asked favorite line in the Bible and he said “and it came to pass”, it didn’t come to stay.

I'm going to say they've never been cleaned, so it's maybe up to 50 years. The other end beam was replaced 5 - 10 years ago and there's no algae on it but the wood may have been pressure treated.
