@@Sam-nd7sl That's true but there are kids who take this type of toast in their lunch or even adults. Also there is butter toast and chai, a classic breakfast. Also with our generation we consume so many types of cheese, and the fact you said here we only have paneer is a bit biased I feel like. I personally eat something like this I just replace the green chillies to chilli powder and add a bit sugar in that toast.
@Sam-nd7sl
@Sam-nd7sl 3 жыл бұрын
@@kookiesbananamilk1876 I understand it might've come out like that, but, the thing remains, even today, with our generation, this isn't even a typical breakfast, far from it actually. I eat that too, but if asked what breakfast I eat, I wouldn't say cheese on toast. 90% of us won't. Don't get me wrong, nothing to do with the taste of the dish shown (pretty good) it's about the accuracy of the representation as depicted, which I know with a country like India won't be 100% accurate, but it's just too far off in this instance.

So I'm in my local Asian market for the first time in months and I see Kaya! "OMG! I remember Beryl showed me a recipe for Kaya toast" I said to myself. So I bought a jar. First of all let me say that it's a good job I'd already put the bread in the toaster when I tried a little taste to see if I'd actually like it because I could have eaten that whole jar with a spoon right there and then. Where has this been all my life? I love the texture and the Coconut, Dulce de Leche vibe. So I make the toast, kaya, butter pat sandwich (for my dinner tonight) and a cup of P G Tips tea with milk (it's too late for me to have coffee) and I am in love. I'm so glad no one else in my house likes coconut ;-). Think I'm gonna try stirring some in my plain overnight oats tomorrow morning :-) Thank you so much.

Hey Beryl! Just wanted to point something out. The coco jam you've used is a bit different (Lily's is a Philippine brand; jam is locally termed as "minatamis na bao") from our neighboring countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore where it is called kaya. They are different because our coco jam makes use of coconut cream, while kaya is prepared with coconut milk. Also, ours does not contain eggs which is a key ingredient in kaya. We often just spread it on toast, while kaya is eaten with a thin layer of butter. Though I must say both our coco jams are delicious! I'm sure someone can explain the difference further in the comments :)

As a Canadian, I’ve never heard of that combo. I think something much more popular here would be butter, sugar and cinnamon. Or just butter and cinnamon spread. In Quebec, we also add “Creton” on top of our toast which is like a type of pâté, also with butter. Another popular spread in Quebec is “Grenache” and it’s basically a caramel sauce and it’s sooo good!

The half-soft boiled eggs with a bit of soy sauce and white pepper are a must here to accompany the kaya toast. Most Westerners won't like the really "snotty" appearance of the eggs, but they are superb. The coffee you're drinking will have nowhere near the buzz of a proper kopitiam (coffee shop) coffee, which is mixed with either evaporated or sweetened condensed milk and is a caffeine and sugar hit to last you most of the morning. If you have a Chinatown near you, try to find some of the Malaysian coffee sachets. I get bags of Gold Kili Extra Strong sachets which will really put hair on your chest and is pretty close to the historical Malaysian coffee where the beans were "roasted" in a wok in either coconut oil or margarine. Toasted cheese sandwiches are a great vegetarian option as street food in India and are made with triple, or more, the cheese you've used and a shedload of herbs and spices. "Aamchi Mumbai" is a YT channel to check out for these. A bit of chilli or chilli oil with that avocado toast would be great. And maybe some lime juice. And PEANUT BUTTER!! If no one else has suggested it, try and get your hands on some Vegemite®. This is an Australian spread made from the yeast left over after making beer. It's a huge umami bomb of flavour. WARNING!! Only spread it THINLY on buttered toast until you get used to it. The mistake Americans make is to treat it like peanut butter or jam and slather it on a quarter of an inch thick! You can also add Vegemite to soups and stews instead of salt to add extra flavour.

I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! Wow, what an awesome concept. I was born in Canada and I've never heard of avocado maple toast but it sound incredible! Avocado goes with everything..it's like natures butter. I personally love any toast that has hummus on it, and since I started making my own, I'm loving how simple white bean hummus is! I'm currently living in Hungary and my favourite toast here is körözött! The spread is made of hungarian tejföl, cottage cheese (not in whey), finely diced onion, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. It's amazing by itself but I like dressing it up with microgreens, cherry tomatoes and cucumber. I'm not a huge bread fan so I usually eat it on rice cakes/large crackers etc. As someone who thoroughly loves exploring cultural foods, körözött is unlike any spread I had tried before. Love your channel, instantly subbed! 🤘🏻

Sort of an upgraded "chilli cheese sandwich" I make is: Spread any hot sauce of your choice to a slice of bread. add slices of onion, chopped coriander, chopped green chillies + cheese. Put the other slice and heat it like a sandwich with butter/ghee. Or swap out the coriander and chillies for pizza herbs. Two yummy snacks

I also used to do peanut butter with bananas and guava jam but wanted to cut the added sugar so now do the cilantro version and also do peanut butter with sliced fresh strawberries. While growing up in Brazil I only ever heard of avocado as a fruit or as part of desserts/sweet dishes. First time I had savoury avocado was when I was introduced to guacamole when I was 24 in the uk. Mexican food wasn’t a thing back home when I was a kid.

I was going to say that... it is so weird having avocados as savory food. I guess for many Brazilians is the same. I grew up eating avocado as a fruit with sugar, avocado smoothie, avocado popsicle. Only when Mexican food became a thing, here in Brazil, did we began eating avocado in a actual meal. Avocado with maple syrup, sounds ok, on a toast, though, does not sound appetizing to me. Flavor profiles...
