Tubeless and I don't think I will ever go back to tubes. Unless I get a flat out on the trail hehe I love being able to change my tire pressure depending on the type of trail I'm riding. Running lower pressure adds more traction and is so much more fun.

Tubeless here on 3 different bikes. Not hard at all to set up, in fact if you have a compressor it's maybe even easier. You just throw the tire on, seat it, put the sealant in and boom. No pinch flats, less psi, and ride-ending punctures are significantly less likely. I'll never go back.

Tubes all the way! When you puncture the tube you either fix it or change it, when tubeless fail, yoy need to remove valve, put tube in it....to continue riding, So tubes fix tubeless, you cant just fix tubeless on the trail, while the humble tube is easily replaceble, so tubes all the way!

Near the desert (Phoenix AZ USA) you have to run tubeless.. I can't tell you how many times I've had to change out a tube due to a small goat head thorn. When I ran tubes. And for the price of how many tubes I had to keep patching up it got super annoying. Switched to tubeless and didn't have an issue with having to stop in the hot sun and ruin some of my time riding.

I think it depends on many facts, as riding style, personal preferences and also your riding conditions, such as climate. For example, in my country we have tons of plant needles in summer, so Tubeless is a MUST HAVE kit, otherwise you suffer punctures like every minute. But anyway I think tubeless gives a bit more grip, because you go less tyre pressure. So thumbs up to tubeless 👍🏻

I always ran tubes with liners. Didn't get a flats for years at a time. I'm tubeless now. For me its not the flat protection but its so much lighter and in return having less rotation force transformed the handling of the bike. It feels great just high maintenance

Tubes on the dirt jumper for life, pinch flats aren't a problem at 55psi and no burping. But...I've always tubes on my DH bike (which will soon be replaced with a beefy enduro bike) just because of how easy it is to set up and change when you have a flat, and you don't need to buy new tires when you puncture. I am thinking about trying tubeless but when I was in whistler for a week in July I had zero flats running tubes (DH weight tires and tubes), while the 3 friends I was with who were running tubeless, had 2-3 punctures/ bad burps each (some DH tires some enduro tires). So I haven't been convinced of the bennifits, guess I'll have to try it eventually.

Just converted to tubeless and it was super easy. WTB tubeless ready rims, maxxis tires, stan's tape, stems and sealant. Set the bead with a floor pump. Was as simple as simple can be. The trickiest part is trying to figure out just how low I can go with the tire pressure.

I went tubeless back in May and also did my mates bike, first tyre was a pain finding an install method that works for me but now after four tyres done it literally takes minuets to do and no need to worry about where I put the wheel on the trail. My tyre did burp off the rim yesterday on a pump track but two pumps and a spin of the wheel it was back up and running....tubeless all the way.....

Got my new bike a few months ago. About 3 rides in I got a flat. Made a DIY compressor and swapped to tubeless(never done it before, took about an hour, including cleaning the tires thouroghly). No problems since! More grip, better dampened ride, slightly less rolling resistance?(felt like it for sure!) and most importantly... Even though I have been riding really aggressively... No flats! :D

78% was a surprising result! I know a fair few riders in UK and only 3 run tubeless, One of those was just because the bike was tubeless when he bought it! (all his other bikes use tubes) - It would be interesting to do the same 'survey' at different events in different countries of riders that have had flats during the event. I have used tubes with sealant in them for many years (used latex in the 80's & a few other tyre sealants since mid 90's) The only bike I *might* try tubeless setup on would be the Fat Bike running low pressures (6 to 12psi) for mudblasting, but even that uses tubes for now. :-) I run many different bikes over rough terrain in Scotland (tubes with sealant in them) and have only had One flat in past 5 years! Just gave the wheel a spin, put more air in it and still running same tube now.. Back up and running in under 2 minutes, Much less fuss & no mess.. :-)

Just got new wheels for my next build, I've now realised that I could go tubeless... but man, I'm kinda hesitant as tubeless seems to be lots of work and more money spent on silly things like sealant. Been riding tubes for more than a year now with no issues, all you need to do is top it up a bit when riding.flawless.

The thing is, depending on where you ride, tubeless is a lot cheaper as you don't have to change tube for every single small thorn. It also allows running lower tire pressure and no snake bites. On top of all that, you do get a little bit lighter bike, and the tires simply roll better (no friction between tube and tire, less heat, etc).

For someone that only has one bike and uses it for riding trails as well as commuting and general road riding (wether to get to the trails or the grocery store), tubes is the way to go if you switch tires according to the task and want your mtb tires to last. Tubeless is way too messy to change tires often. Unless you have a second dedicated wheelset.

I never really cared until I got a 27.5+ bike - for plus bikes tubeless is almost necessary. For my other bike (29er with 2.3 to 2.4 tires) I was happy with tubes and experienced less tire related problems than the people I rode with who had tubeless even though I was running quite low pressure.

Tubeless is not difficult to set up or messy at all. Tubeless ready rims and tires is easy to set up with a floor pump and a bucket of soapy water. Where I ride at, I get pinch flats on tubes every other ride or so. With tubeless I go for months without a flat until the sealant dries up. When it does I just inject more sealant in the valve stem.

tubes. I'll have the same tubes in for ages. never pinch flatted so I don't feel the need for tubeless. if I didn't have to keep changing the sealant every few months I might go tubeless but for now I'm sticking with tubes.

Haven't had a flat yet using tubes on the bike I built up in the fall though granted, the terrain around where I live isn't particularly rough. Tubeless just seems like too much of a hassle. You have to buy the tape, the sealant, top up the sealant every once in a while, you need an air compressor to get the beads to seat, and so on.
@andrewmassie2874
@andrewmassie2874 7 жыл бұрын

That did surprise me but i don't know why. Against a good quality inner tube or latex ones (with a dash of stans etc) i just can't see any advantages of tubeless against their cons, i very rarely get flats anyway so happy to run a tube at low enough pressure to avoid squirm.

I feel like in bike parks people tend to run higher pressures, thicker sidewalls and can get away with tubes. Also the average rec rider who isn't concerned about shaving seconds or grams probably doesn't want to deal with tubeless. I run it but it's definitely more inconvenient to maintain.

I run tubes on my Anthem SX. I run higher pressures (25 front, 30 rear) to keep from pinch flatting or damaging my rim. If I go lower, I risk damaging my rims regardless if I'm running tubes or tubeless, so at that point, the only difference is weight and maintenance. It's just not worth the extra bother to save a few grams and bother with maintenance, burping, mess, etc.

I was running 35 psi in my tubes and was still pinch flatting all the time. I went tubeless last rear and have not had a flat on my bike since. If I was not getting flats all the time I would have stayed with tubes.

Random Person If you got pinch flats all the time, how were you not bending and nicking your rims? Getting a pinch flat is a very distinct feeling that you can both hear and feel. Once you do it, you know exactly what happened the instant you do it before you stop or even look down.

The hassle of taking off the tire so you can hunt punctures in a tube every couple of weeks isnt as annoying as setting up tubeless once and forgetting about it for the whole season. I went tubeless last year and havent had a single flat tire, when I had tubes I got so many punctures I got sick of patching and just inflated the tire before every ride and hoped it didnt go flat by the time I got home.

tubeless is just a pain to deal with the tech still sucks too sketchy example wtb i19 xcountry rims wtb trailboss tires 2.25 both tubeless compatable the rear rim needed 3 layers of rim tape rode it for two weeks took the tire off the wtb tcs fluid pooled in 1 spot and no where else. and there was zero liquid in the tire. i used 4 oz of fluid. so ya, tubeless ideally is a good idea but in reality the science didnt pan out tubeless is just a pain to deal with heavy riders already have alot of maintenance to deal with. adding tubeless is just another bs thing to deal with. has it gotten better in 2 years? not that i have seen. basic requirements: 27-34 mm internal rim width constantly removing and cleaning tire and rim re adding fluid for what? a possible tiny gain? just to tubes with a bit of sealant or green slime thats more stable and less to deal with while i shred others are maintaining thier tubeless rigs bottom line: the tech still sucks

There should’ve been a follow up question to those that said tubes… if they have never tried tubeless, i bet most havent.

I chose tubes becuase of landing sideways and the chance of the tire being ripped off the rim

Can you ride a DH bike tubeless

It's always back and forth which is heavier. Tubes, because of the tubes duh. or tubeless because of the thicker sidewalls and goo you have to add?

Asking the wrong group. If you ask a group in an XC trail, the results would be different. Just like what the other guy said, tubes on his dh and tubless with his 29er. Dh bikes/wheels takes to much abuse and a lot of amateur riders don't have a mechanic waiting for them to fix the wheel at the bottom of the hill. It is much easier to just replace the tube rather than dealing with sealant. With XC/trail bikes, it is more a set and forget kind of deal.

#askgmbn Hi, recenlty I've converted tubes->tubeless in my hardtail and set 2bar (29psi) of pressure. It was done in my local bike shop/service. After 1 week, pressure dropped below 1bar (14psi) in both wheels, front/rear. Is it natural?

Hello, I'm still in tubes but expect to swap in tubeless. I think the lose of psi firsts day is normal m, the scellant must more or less time if your tires are tubeless ready, only in case of tubeless ready.
