The Tunze Stream 3 is an absolute beast of a pump that was always going to make it's way into my Dream Reef Tank build. The only downside to the pump is the size and mounting of it, which is a little awkward for some setups.
In this episode I'll share with you how I made a DIY mount to fix the problem, making it super neat and easy to mount 2 of these monsters in my tank to take care of all the left to right flow in my tank.
You'll need:
Titanium bolts of appropriate length: bit.ly/3n2LdmC
Titanium Nuts: bit.ly/383quet
And some spare Tunze magnet mounts.
Also be sure to check out my full review of the stream 3 pumps here:

This would also be good for people who want to mount on the back wall going length of tank but have a back center overflow, this gets the main flow out past that overflow. I have one of these, it’s been a series of pros and cons. Nice work I might try this if I don’t just switch to a gyre.

Currently starting the very beginning phases of a 72*36 peninsula. All pumps must be on the one end and this little hack might be the answer I'm looking for! I've narrowed my choices down to Nero 5 and Tunze. Just not sure what Tunze as of yet. This is definitely top 3 now. Thanks Sam!
@ParkersReef
@ParkersReef 3 жыл бұрын
Nero is great, but some tunze are MUCH larger than the Nero 5. But you could totally run a few Nero, or a couple big tunze. See what your local fish shop uses and carries, always good to have something they back and carry :)

Happy new year Sam and fam. 6x2x2 Waterbox with the two gyre xf350 (we spoke on FB). Gonna ditch the 3rd gyre, the glamorca. Recommendations on another 1 or 2 pumps to help suspend detritus and provide some randomised flow for bottom half of a bare bottom? Will be SPS dominant.
@ParkersReef
@ParkersReef 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Dale, yeah I remember mate! If you’re running two gyres, I’d go MP60’s or 40s on the back wall. But you could easily go a tunze option too, you just want something broad to provide some randomness to your gyres :)

Curious why your titanium was dyed purple. That said, looks like you did a great job with your project, the Tunze 3 pumps just looked wrong from the start for me, not sure what market they were trying to hit with the weird "sideways" mountain magnets, etc. but it looks like you managed to make it work, bravo. Oh your dream of wanting a shallow sand bed AND have flow in the tank may be a pipe dream :)

Great video Sam! Question for you about the Stream 3. I’m building out a 90x90x50cm eurobraced acropora tank, roughly 100g/400L. I was considering 2 MP40s on the back, but perhaps 1 or 2 of these would work? Maybe just one on the eurobrace? These guys are crazy strong it seems.
@ParkersReef
@ParkersReef Жыл бұрын
Wow that sounds like a LOT of flow for a 400L tank! These pumps are super strong, but also pretty large. If you can creatively mount it so it’s not too visible one would be plenty
@RyanPV
@RyanPV Жыл бұрын
@@ParkersReef Great, that’s what I suspected haha. Just trying to weigh out which would be better/more efficient: 1 Stream 3 or 2 MP40s. 1 Stream would be cheaper for sure, but might not provide the random/wide flow of the 2 MP40s the acros would need.

I found some conflicting info online so I figured I’d ask the expert 😉
@ParkersReef
@ParkersReef 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mason! Ok, the DI component is basically just a safety net for the first three components. The first two pre filters protect your RO membrane, the RO membrane does all the work and the DI component tidies it up should anything get past the membrane. In short, not needed no, just makes it a little longer/easier between replacing the other components :)

Hey mate! Gyres are great, but they realistically need to be cleaned every two - four weeks or they lose so much power. I had four Tunze in my last tank that literally never got cleaned in 6 years. Not ideal, but they still worked amazingly well. For that, tunze gets my money :)

Awesome... such a great idea! I think it's a good way to mount at the far end of a peninsula. I like the rocking... I have the Tunze 6040 and have a slight rocking thanks to that. The only issue is that there is a better option - reefbreeders.com/shop/coral-box-pump-rotator/ - although they REALLY need to make these things black - yours is a slicker install but I bet you would love to add in the sweeping
