Sit down and observe 2 completely different ways you could handle encountering other hunters while turkey hunting. You decide which is best. And you can also take note that turkey hunting is NOT all, high fives and flopping turkeys. There are struggles as well, those are often skipped in the production room but not here. #pinhotiproject #turkeyhunting #publicland

Dave I'll never get tired of listening to you talk about the unwritten rules of turkey hunting: being respectful and honoring another turkey hunters set and first come rules of public land hunting. People don't understand that just because you pop a tent up that that's your claim on the spot, this ain't deer hunting. There's a reason to have multiple birds/areas to go to. If somebody beats you there, be respectful go to another spot. This was a great example of how its done Thank You Dave for showing how it's supposed to be done. I'd hunt with you any day and if i ever bump into you in the turkey woods, you better believe I'mma do it right.

Awesome video dave. Footage of that owl hooting wasn’t something you’d ever hear in a calling contest! And your ending statement was dead on. We have such a celebration when we harvest a bird, because more times than not, we leave the woods empty handed. At least in my experience lol. Still enjoy every minute we get of our favorite time of year though.

Hunting public land is tough, and I applaud you guys. Courtesy and etiquette and sportsmanship are becoming things of the past. I cannot say that I wouldn't be like those guys you've encountered the past several days, had it not been for being taught better by my dad. I remember once, us making a hell of a track back through the NF, hearing this gobbler hammering...and when we get there, close to where we wanted to set up, the bird still gobbling hard, the unmistakable sound of an old lynch box call working the gobbler. Being young, and ignorant, I tell my dad that he's a better caller than this guy, and tried to convince him to throw our hat in the ring. Unwavering, my dad says "no, we're gonna sit here and listen to the show. He beat us to it, and we're gonna let him have it". He went on to explain etiquette and courtesy in the woods. The thing I'll never forget, he said "it's takes a good hunter to call a turkey off another hunter, but it takes a better man to let the other hunter have it." Long story short, the guy killed the gobbler and my dad and I went on down and talked to the guy, and congratulated him and he walked out with us, and we gave him a ride to his vehicle and we made a friend for life. Neither of us had ever met him before. I met him almost 30 years ago, and I still hunt with him a time or two every spring and we've had some super hunts together.

You're a good man Dave! You took the good the bad and the ugly in stride. Way to keep at it. It's why we call it hunting and not shopping. Can't just pick one off the shelf and go home although it seems like you're fighting off hunters like folks fighting for toilet paper. Says a lot about our culture. I been on a trumpet kick for the last 3 yrs , if I learn how to run one I might make a turkey hunter ...lol I agree sometimes it looks like all we can do is win when the road to success is long and winding . I can say public land here in Central GA has been respectful so far this year. ( 1 1/2 weeks in. ) ive been on a draw hunt and haven't had any problems but have had to sit out on a Gobbler or 2 while someone else was working him. ,but believe me I was in reconnaissance mode while I was listening . Safe travels and have a good spring !

I hunt public all the time. I usually do a good job of avoiding other guys. Man my biggest struggle often times is seeing a vehicle parked at a certain area and not knowing where that hunter is. There are ridge systems that span literal miles but man I hate parking anywhere there's another vehicle. I usually just head the other way if I even hear calling.

I have not done a lot of traveling and hunting public land. I have hunted a couple of military bases and Corps of Engineers land and I was always to respectful or I guess you could say I coward down to any hunters around me. If I encountered half the disrespectful hunters that you have, I would have most likely went back to my vehicle and we can’t kill them there!! I luv the way you guys persevere and just keep after them. It takes some nerve that I haven’t got to hunt that close to other people, to many people trigger happy... be safe brother and keep pumping out these videos. I would rather watch you guys and THP in real situations than others filming on private $$$ hunts...Not knocking the guided private hunts but they generally don’t show the struggles that a lot of us average hunters have. I have been fortunate to have private lands to hunt myself and it is a struggle sometimes itself but if we didn’t work for it we wouldn’t want it!! I’m just rattling on now. Anyways, you guys ever in Midd TN hollar and I got some good land that can be challenging that y’all are welcome to. Good Luck and be safe guys!!

Great video as usual Dave. 15.5 hours is a heck of an effort. Even though you didn't get a Turkey I enjoyed the video because that's reality. Normally all the videos I watch end up with celebrating a kill and from my 40 years experience chasing these long beards there are a whole lot more days walking back to the truck with nothing but my shotgun on my shoulder. And I for one don't mind listening to you whine about people you encounter on public land these days. Not all but most people you run across on public land are rude as hell and very disrespectful of other hunters. It's bad enough that we only get 56 days a year to Turkey hunt in Georgia but we get coronavirus pandemic during Turkey season. Since I'm retired I hunt during the week to avoid most of the jerks but now they're all off from work and decided to take up Turkey hunting this year. Well that's enough venting. Keep the great videos coming and good luck with the rest of your season.

Hey Dave, I don't mean this as an attack on you or any of the others out there, but with all of the content being pushed (KZfaq, Tweeter, Instagram, Facebook, etc..) by so many folks about recreating on public land, particularly hunting, we would be foolish to think that this publicity would not perpetuate conflict by promoting the "awesomeness" that our public lands provide. The point is legit, the lands are public and they belong to all of us, but the amount of use has continued to increase and part of this increase is a result of productions like the Pinhoti Project. Again, not really trying to place blame with this comment(I love your stuff and lots of productions from others), but just pointing out a reality that comes with increased publicity. Every time something comes out about my home state I cringe. Best of luck out there and all of us need to take responsibility for good sportsmanship and respect for others when afield and in life as a whole.

I completely agree. Which is why I think content such as that above needs to be shared as well. I don't see many of these type conflicts shared with viewers because they're the less attractive side of hunting public lands. It's not all peachy. BUT, I believe it is extremely important to share and discuss these type topics in an open forum. I do believe the KZfaq platform as well as others is creating more public land hunters and I couldn't be more excited about it. I just want to do my part to make sure that if the PINHOTI PROJECT is responsible for creating those hunters it will be ethical and respectful new hunters. There is plenty of public ground to go around - as long as everyone practices the GOLDEN RULE.

@@pinhotiproject I echo your thoughts, we need people to be invested and have a connection to our public lands or else we will not have a meaningful voice for the conservation and long term good of the resource. Anyhow, wanted to again stress that I really do enjoy your work (you, the THP and BRO crew are what is good about the industry). I was supposed to have been down in your neck of the woods (kind of, Troy AL) two weeks ago, but the Covid blew that plan up. So I will ask the unpopular question. Someone has to be that guy. So you and THP and Catman and all the youtube hunters are highlighting south Florida, Mississippi, Alabama early season and then it’s easy tags and great late season public land In Wisconsin, Maine, and insert state. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to often figure out at least the general areas you guys are hunting. After a bit folks looking in say, hey bud I can do that too. Then you go back next year and your favorite public lands are crawling with extra folks? Don’t get me wrong, you produce great entertainment, but could it be you are becoming a victim of your own doing? Not being a smarty. I’m truly interested if there’s something to it in your opinion?

Props to your turkey killing skills and popularity. I’m sure it is very affirming to have lots of followers.
