I've literally had that same problem, but like - in a public restaurant. You know how like there are only single bathrooms, and sometimes the door would be shut, and there are lots of people talking, so even if you knock, you'd probably wouldn't hear who's in the bathroom, so it would force you to wait? I've had that problem. And what's WORSE, you find out that the bathroom was empty the whole time, when another guy casually strolls through, opens the bathroom door, and forces you to wait another long time, while you're cursing yourself, or the restaurant for having a bathroom door that shuts itself when someone exits it.

I had a similar situation with one of my roommates, living in a shared apartment me + 3 roomies and this one guy just didn't get it. I have no idea if he was trying to *photosynthesis indoors* or if he was afraid of the dark or whatever but he _always_ left the lights on _everywhere_. After like a year me and other two roommates snapped and removed almost every light bulb in the apartment, leaving only the few necessary ones. It took him like two months to figure out our mischief (needless to say, this guy was also a bit dumdum)

I can kinda relate this but like reverse. My cousins and Aunt only pay rent and not electricity where they live, so they just leave lights on for no reason. When I go over there I will instinctively turn the the bathroom lights off, just to have someone go "Why are the lights off?"

I totally feel you Most of the time, my family members turn the lights off, but once in a while someone forgets to turn off the bathroom light (very rarely) and somehow it's always at the most inopportune moments and the feeling of just having to wait for a long-ass time while holding it in is worse than goddamn torture and the worst thing is that one of my family members actually has stomach-issues so they take a loooong time in the bathroom (even an hour or longer) so there's no way to know if they just forgot to turn the lights off or if they are still in there and of course i don't want to knock on the bathroom, that's just rude as fuck, but if i'm waiting for like 20 minutes i scout out the entire goddamn house and ask everyone for the current locations of other people and if they're all accounted for then i go ahead and knock that brings me to my question, why didn't you just scout out the apartment to try to find him when he's been there for like 20 minutes, ofc you would bring your friend with you to like so you're not just creeping around somebody else's apartment that way you don't need to knock so there's no way that you'll make anyone feel bad

At one dorm we used to have a bathroom that was basically a closed off corridor in-between two bedrooms that you could lock from inside when you used it. One time we had a neighbor from "the other side" who would go shower late at night, leave the lights on and the door locked. Lockpicking became a valuable skill that year.
