I remember the day this album first came out. I was a junior in high school. I just got my first car. A 2005 Ford Mustang convertible was my first car. I had the windows open, it was cold outside, I was blaring the album from the beginning. Pink + White turned on while I was on Hayden road, I was bopping my head to the music and some guy pulled up in the lane next to me smiling and asked “is that the new Frank album?”. Such a perfect moment. We were both jamming in traffic to Pink + White for a short 30 secs. This album absolutely obliterates me. It reminds me of my first love; everything was perfect during those days. Convertibles, cool weather, mental and physical health good, go to work and then hangout with the girl I loved and drive home bumping this album at 2 am with the top down, repeat. What Frank did with this album hoes beyond the art. He did something nobody had done in the music industry, that I know of at least. This guy managed to take years to make an album with Universal's money. Then turns into a video album called Endless. The next day his contract ended and he didn't resign. He then took the album Blond and release it as an iTunes exclusive and makes Apple pay him for it, obviously. He screwed Universal over so bad but he technically gave them a last album. He convinced them it was. They weren't expecting him to release another album a few days later. He got Universal and Apple essentially pay for the same album. Genius. Fuck the music industry. I love him for that alone.

I know you guys won’t see this, but to comment on “needing several listens” to get into this album, you all touched on why that is several times. The album is unpredictable, and the brain releases endorphins to reward itself for pattern recognition. So basically, no endorphins on the first listen, because the brain is almost penalizing itself for not knowing where anything’s going. After several listens, though, your brain not only releases the endorphins for recognizing the patterns, but it gives an extra boost to you for knowing the patterns of something so abstract. Next thing you know, you have one of the most popular albums of all time. Everyone’s brains patting themselves on the back for feeling like they understand something on a deeper level than the average joe could.

It's crazy how this album came out in 2016, I listened to it non-stop for probably a year till I got a bit tired of it. He dropped singles after that and I loved those as well, but overall I didn't listen to frank as often as i did when i was younger. I recently secured a blonde vinyl copy that dropped on his site and decided to revisit the album + endless. I am now once again on a frank binge as I realize this person made something so timeless and conceptual, that even this dad recognized influences/samples. Someone who has never heard his stuff before. Frank ocean really dropped one of the greatest albums ever made. It's so impactful and beautifully crafted in a way that it could really strike the listeners ears in the most profound and emotional way. Thank you so much frank for what you blessed us with. "This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the other (masculine) side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout." - copyed from another video but i love this comment

It’s not that deep 😂 Nikes was the first song he released from the album to give people a taste after a long hiatus, but he wanted to mess with people who have been waiting for something from him so he made them hear a new song and at the same time wait to hear his voice even longer just teasing them. I’ve seen a lot of comments saying the same thing about age? Must have come from the same podcast? If you need d*ck I got you? Pour up for ASAP? Said she need a ring like Carmelo? Must be on that white like othello? Woo fucking buzzin? Younger? What a year before the album? I mean if you care to elaborate on how he is younger? Other than a high pitch… I’m open minded to see that but that’s a stretch for me. The subject matter doesn’t scream “younger” to me.
