Secondly, you'll begin to feel more like "at home" when in the pool by trying to "make bubbles" underwater. Or breath in and hold your breath, and then calmly get down into the water, without going too far down so you'll be at ease. Try to stay as long as you can. And avoid the thought of "OMG! Air! Air!!" Just stay relaxed. Then, as the CO2 begins to build up, you'll feel the urge to come up. DON'T. Instead, exhale slowly and calmly. Beging to come up slowly as you run out of breath. Good luck!

Actually, it's just the fear of drowning that prevents you from staying longer in the water. I had the same problem when I was a child, and recently experienced something similar now that I'm learning the Butterfly style. First, in and out of the pool, try to convince yourself that you're gonna be OK. Even if you do choke or even drown. There you have a bunch of other swimmers and your instructor(s). It'll just be unpleasant at the time, you know, choking, but no worries, you'll survive.

@mikejahn2791 There's some info about underwater cams at our website. We use many different types depending on if we're just going to upload to KZfaq, or for our production DVDs. Prices range from $200+ - to a few thousand.

@emmawozere2006 - Hi. These questions are far better answered on our website. You'll get all kinds of help and advice from other swimmers there. Click on the banner on our channel and it will take you right there. Just remember, sometimes the harder you try, the more things go wrong. Keep your kicks small and compact and focus on the resistance you're creating to set up a big kick. Sometimes that's the fastest way to improve.. limit resistance.

You may be kicking too much from your legs. Remember, the more you bend your legs to set up the kick, the better chance that you'll be creating more resistance with the set up. try to kick from the body like the swimmer in the drill.

Why does she only exhales when facing up but not when facing down? I mean isn't the key to always exhale for better performance and less fatigue.
@zazugee
@zazugee 7 жыл бұрын
you only exhale in surface swimming, when you take breaths each other stroke or even each 4, 6 ..etc bc you're in aerobic cycle. about her slowing exhaling from her nose, it's to prevent water entering her nostrils and in her mouth, cause it can be uncomfortable, but if you use a nose-clip, you don't have to. when swimming underwater for long periods (under 3min in one breath), you don't have to. it's a form of anaerobic cycle, muscles can either use the O2 in blood and lungs or use glycol and produce lactate acids. I can swim underwater 32m without fins in 50sec and swim slowly for 1min 20sec. my dry static apnea is 3min. I'm not a pro, I'm a complete noob, my surface swimming is slow i can't even exceed 1m/s in front crawl and can't swim freestyle more than 50m without losing my stamina. i started practicing underwater swimming and i came this far in just 2 months (2 sessions a week), with addition of out of water simple apnea exercises (O2 and CO2 tables). you may ask why underwater apnea would benefit your surface swimming, cause at 1st hand it seems unrelated (anaerobic cycle vs aerobic cycle) the thing with underwater swimming is that you gain confidence that you can hold your breath, and relax and feel at peace underwater, so you'll no longer panic if you lose your stamina in surface swimming or start sinking. and yo also can practice underwater cycles (like the dolphin kick after a wall flip) leisurely. i noticed an increase in my speed in front crawl after struggling for 2 months to learn to swim it better and faster. i learned from some research papers that drag underwater is less than on surface, so pushing your head underwater helps you in swimming faster, and reducing your cross-sectional area, plus, you can endure underwater exhale phases longer and you can breath less (each 4 or 6 instead of 2) cause breathing often break your streamlined pose in front-crawl.
