Yeah me too. I don't see any comedy point in this. It's totally creepy. Not cringe, creepy, totally creepy. The mix of desperation and madness is so painful to see and this final, just after he killed his hangman... Yew... I can't see this movie again. Fortunately there are these weird passages with Johnny Deep, the girlfriend and... other guy. It brings some light in this freak show. It's a bit like the Human Centipede but far more worst.

i'm pretty sure Kevin Smith meant for it to be a comedy...because..like during the end credits or after the credits or something, you hear a voice over of Kevin Smith describing the scene to someone and he's just laughing and laughing like it's the most hilarious thing. .. like he legit thought this would be a hilarious movie. i myself, thought it was a decent film, kind of piggybacking off the human centipede body horror theme that i keep seeing appear in movies.

@@airachica I literally had to stop the video and try to process what I was looking at when I saw the human walrus hybrid. At first, I was in shock. Then, I was very confused. Next, after I had put two-and-two together, I became extremely horrified. And finally, I became absolutely disgusted. I rarely get disgusted when watching a horror film because sometimes these types of films have gross things in it and you get kind of used to it. But something about this human/animal hybrid monstrosity and the entire film made me very queasy. Even thinking about it makes me sick. I wanted to not watch the video any further. But my stupid ass was too curious about what happened next in the film with this review video that I kept on watching and it only had gotten worse and worse. It’s one of the few times where I actually regret watching a Nostalgia Critic video.

Howard wanted Wallace to kill him so he could join his walrus friend in heaven. The walrus spent its last hours helping a stranded man, so it went to heaven. Howard spent his last days turning a man into a walrus against his will, so he went to hell. Howard will never be reunited with his walrus friend. In all seriousness though, that walrus suit is one of the most fascinating things I have ever seen. +Justin Kelly I thought the exact same thing! I wished that I had never seen nor heard of this film. Now, I can’t get that image of Justin Long’s character being turned into a human walrus monstrosity out of my head. Sure, the character was a douche bag. But I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy! 🤮😖
@thewolfofwallstreet627
@thewolfofwallstreet627 3 жыл бұрын
Well it's still a horror film, and it would've been unrealistic to seriously think that Justin Long's character was the only person that this crazy asshole ever tried to turn into a walrus, and somehow got what he wanted on the first shot. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised at how many more people died as he tried to turn them into walruses, before he perfected the procedure to do it. As for why they left him like that? Well, I'm not a doctor either, but I did hear that usually whenever you get say an arm or something cut off, you usually have to keep the detached body part on ice, and get surgery asap to get it reattached before the detached body part goes dead from the lack of blood flow into it. Once that happens, then you're basically fucked. From what I can remember from the movie, they never exactly explain how much time passed after his limbs and various other body parts were removed, in order for him to be turned into a walrus, so chances are he's probably screwed. Plus, it's never established in the film that anyone else but that crazy guy knew how to turn people into walruses, so it's highly unlikely anyone would know how to change him back either. Even if they could turn him back to at least looking human again, the problem is he doesn't have a tongue anymore, and given everything I've already said, and the fact that it's never explained what happened to his body parts that were removed, as the crazy guy could've disposed of said parts while he was unconscious, so chances are even if he was turned to look human again he'd still be a tongue less person with no limbs at all, so he'd virtually be helpless with no way to communicate with the world unless he learns how to write shit with his mouth. And finally, I think having him turn back completely as though it never happened like you seem to want it to have happened would've ruined the ending honestly. Part of the reason why he was crying at the end was because he took life granted. Always looking down on others, and thinking he was on top of the world, but now that everything he's known is taken away from him, and knowing he'll have to live the rest of his life as animal makes him realize how much he misses his own humanity. And how even though he's now more animal than man now, there's still humanity left in him. That was the point of the ending, so I don't think a happy ending would've worked for this film.
@Gabreya
@Gabreya 3 жыл бұрын
+Steven Escareno But the way the movie was structured and how it played out was disjointed and awful. Plus, from what you said about the possibility of doctors changing him back, if this were real and he was able to survive all this time, it would take years and many doctors to possibly make that happen. They would try to at least make him somewhat human looking again, fix his internal organs back for human functioning, and probably construct a new tongue for him. And, from what I’ve read from one of the comments in this video, they would have to give him prosthetic limbs if they were to try to reverse some of the extreme body modifications done to him.
@thewolfofwallstreet627
@thewolfofwallstreet627 3 жыл бұрын
@@Gabreya that's assuming he has money and a viable health coverage. Most doctors won't perform that extensive amount of surgery on a person if they don't have both. Sure sometimes you might have some doctors might do it probono but that's not a sure thing. Plus since it seemed like in the movie itself nobody else knew how to do the surgery that crazy guy did to Long's character, it's safe to assume they'd have to contact a specialist or two to revert him back to normal if that was even possible and Lord knows that will not only be expensive but hard to get a hold of said specialists especially if he doesn't have the money and good health insurance

So, I’m not one for ANY kind of horror, even super campy ones, but once we saw this reveal, I had a very unique string of emotions: First, I was laughing because of how unrealistically stupid and insane that concept is. This was likely a form of shock. Second I was getting more and more disturbed the longer I looked at the details of this abomination. Lastly, nauseating sadness. Not only did I feel bad for this guy (despite being a self-absorbed asshole), but couldn’t believe the audacity of his “friends” letting him stay like that! I mean, they couldn’t take him to a doctor?!? You wouldn’t even need a marine biologist to tell you that is NOT a natural walrus! If he can’t be healed, SHOOT HIM! Kill him! You were already having an affair behind his back and hate his guts anyway! Just end him! Yeah... I’m gonna need therapy after this...or watch cute cat videos, whatever works.

+Bitsy83 I couldn’t have said it any better. For the record, I am a huge horror movie fan and there are some things in these types of films that don’t bother me too much. But after watching this video, this film ended up haunting me. When they revealed the human walrus, I had to pause the video so that my brain can process what I was looking at. I was so surprised and flabbergasted. And part of that was due to me watching this video with an open mind and not knowing what the movie was truly about. In hindsight, that might’ve been a HUGE MISTAKE in this case. To me, it felt like it came out of nowhere, at first. I just stared at the screen trying to comprehend what I was looking at. The longer I stared, the more I was beginning to feel extremely uncomfortable. Then, when I continued the video, the more I looked at him, the more creeped out and nauseous I got. Furthermore, I began to feel extremely anxious and scared because my mind began to think about what that depraved scientist POS did to him and the possibility of there being people out there like that sick and twisted bastard that could do some ghastly BS like that to people. And finally, I felt a mixture of scared, sad, and angry at the end of the film because they definitely should’ve put Justin Long’s character, I think his name was Wallace(?), out of his misery. Just the thought of being turned into a human-animal abomination due to INHUMANE experimentation and torture that ultimately cost you most of your basic human characteristics like your limbs and tongue among other things, you’re in constant pain due to whatever was done to you, and you can’t do anything but scream is BEYOND TERRIFYING and HEARTBREAKING. His ex-girlfriend, so-called “friend”, and Johnny Depp’s character, in my opinion, are just as bad as that POS scientist because they’re letting him continue to suffer! I don’t care if he was a self-absorbed asshole. What was done to him was INHUMANE. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

@@Gabreya I couldn’t have said THAT any better myself. It’s funny, isn’t it, how a human being could comprehend a creation like this. If you’re familiar with Junji Ito then you’ll see just what kind of twisted, horrific things he’s created. But I watched an interview with him and was surprised by how nice and sweet he was. I’m not accusing Ito of being a maniac hiding behind a pleasant face, but I think he, and everyone else, have those dark terrifying thoughts in there heads. He and Smith just produce them in a “positive” way by turning them into stories or movies. But, yes, there are others who use those thoughts and make them like thus scientist or Dr. Mengele. Nice to know that even horror aficionados found this just as disturbing as I did. 😉
@Gabreya
@Gabreya 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bitsy83 You’re absolutely right. And I’m familiar with Junji Ito, thanks to KZfaq channel Horror Show Mickey. In fact, I couldn’t get through some of Ito’s stories because a lot of the imagery in his books had really unnerved me. I’ve never seen any interviews with him. But from what you’ve told me, he does sound like a normal, nice person. You make an excellent point about how he and Kevin Smith use horror as a way of expressing how humanity can sometimes carry darkness within. Even if it’s through ghastly imagery. This shows that horror is a surprisingly great way for us to examine the ugly and dark side of humanity, and give warnings about human nature. Which is why, slightly off topic if you don’t mind, Stephen King’s “Carrie” was showing through the actions of the characters what happens when humanity devolves into such immorality and cruelty that result in the figurative creation of monsters.
@Gabreya
@Gabreya 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bitsy83 I’m sure that I’m not the only horror fan that found this film extremely disturbing. We all have our limits. Heck, things like skinless Frank and Julia in the first two Hellraiser films and that overly bloated lady in “Slither” don’t bother me as much as this. And the messed up thing is, judging by this video, this film had the potential of being a genuinely good film, but unfortunately missed the mark due to the awful writing, awful structure, the misplaced comedy, and not really sticking to the point of the story. Also, in my personal opinion, I felt that that scientist bastard should’ve been killed in an ironic manner similar to the karmic deaths in “Tales From The Crypt”. Him getting killed the way he did was a cop out and really didn’t make any sense. But hey, just a thought. 😉😊

I think what makes this movie so horrific compared to other horror films is that in something like Friday the 13th, when Jason puts his machete through someones head, you at least know they are dead and that they can't possibly suffer anymore, same goes for when Jigsaw kills someone in a death trap. But Wallace's fate is so dehumanising, so utterly cruel that honestly by the end of the film, your wishing someone would put the poor bastard out of his misery. Which makes it worse when they for some reason don't!

I disagree that this movie will be an absolute hit if they had the "comedic" moments removed. I feel like it may end up as just another exploitation movie with a super disturbing imagery had Smith just kept it entirely as a body horror flick. The absolute disbelief gained from a movie where scenes of Depp attempting a weird accent and scenes of a person being surgically operated to become a human walrus coexisting together possibly would leave a stronger reaction and even a deeper mental scar on the audiences. A guy getting his head fatally twisted inside a torture machine in a SAW movie or a guy getting his head fatally squashed under Big Bird's foot in an episode of Sesame Street? Surely I'd be more interested to find the clip of the latter.

Honestly I was once going to watch this cause a 'friend' recommended it and luckily for me I watched a basic summary of it instead of actually seeing the movie and not gonna lie somehow this movie disturbs me more than human centipede and it's all because of the f***ing walrus bit which genuinely almost made me lose my lunch and for anyone wondering I don't actually have a weak stomach so that should show just how messed up this whole thing was to me and I would never make my worst enemy watch this genuinely horrifying movie if that's what you want to call it.
