I tried my hardest to create this tutorial. I am not sure about my ability to teach anything anatomy-wise. If you believe this tutorial could be better, tell me, and I'll try again some other day.

a couple of shortcuts: the legs are as long as the entire torso+the head (without the neck); the feet are as long as the head (since they're as long as the forearms, the forearms are as long as the arms and the arms are as long as the head) This way you don't have to do strange calculations

@papycoima
@papycoima 3 жыл бұрын
@TacoDraws oh, you're probably talking about the feet. Yeah now that I think about it it's incorrect how i described them but the proportions are still right. In the explaination I said that the forearm and arm are as big as the head, when in reality they're as big as the top part of the torso. If you think about it though, the torso is as big as the head, so the proportions are still right. Hope this clarifies

Making the leg measure easier: As he said, torsos and head should be 1:1:1, so for the leg instead of getting a line from the upper to the lower torso and adding half of it (making from 1:1 to 1:1:1) you can just get the line from the lower torso to the head. long story short the legs length equal the entire upper body.

I could never understand anatomy lengths at a normal perspective but following along with the tutorial and actually creating it myself really helped me understand proportions. I don’t know why but I always thought the chest was larger than the head and that the arms were larger than our feet. Maybe because my chest seems large when I look down at it and my feet look small because of how far they are from my head in comparison to my arms.

note: i havent finished the video so idk if he included these, but: ALSO: I am in no way a professional artist, this is just what helped *ME* . WHEN STARTING OUT: trace the basic shapes in photos (literally any model photos bc they usually have good form/height) i recommend starting out with dynamic poses, because when you start out with stiff poses, it's harder to not apply that stiffness to other poses. (just what I have heard/experienced) (I also started out by learning perspective. ex: 1 point, 2 point, and so on. i checked out boxes, train tracks, chairs, tables, drawers, paintings, and rooms. It was very basic, but useful.) 2. once you are comfortable with the basic shapes (and i mean comfortable. take your time. a day or two is a very short amount of time.) you can replicate those shapes without tracing. it takes a lot of practice, but make sure you note the differences, so you can fix them the next time. 3. You've learned the shapes and fluency. Now what? *FOCUS ON THE PROPORTIONS!* I usually go head to toe, because I won't just be drawing feet without knowing the head, but that's COMPLETELY up to you. 4. I recommend not micro-focus on the details of the face (eyes/nose/mouth etc.) learn where they are, and how they're placed, but you don't need to learn how to draw them right away! (unless you want to) it took me around 2-3 months per body part (it really differs on how you learn/process information,. it might take you a shorter/longer amount of time. 5. TIP: when you do anatomy, make sure you note all the shapes in the individual body part, and then apply the proportions. 6. SKETCH. SKETCH. SKETCH. (loose, quick poses) 7. TAKE NOTESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! i cannot stress this enough, but taking notes was really important in my art journey. I noted what was wrong, fixed it, and kept improving my techniques that way. 8. draw often, not necessarily daily, and draw when you feel motivated. I mean, I DO NOT have the time or energy to draw every day, and everyone has their own social life. When I'm procrastinating I produce work that I am not satisfied with! As long as you practice right (try new things, use your notes to improve/apply new techniques) Go to Pinterest for models. HONESTLY BEST PLACE FOR THEM. Now that you know proportions, have some awareness of the perspective, and can confidently draw a body, you can personalize it! Look to your fav artists for inspiration, but be mindful of copying their work. You don't want to do that. :) it's a long journey that never actually ends. AND REMEMBER: DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELVES WITH OTHER ARTISTS. ONLY WITH YOUR PAST WORK TO SEE YOUR IMPROVEMENT. you'd be surprised at how much you've improved in a few months/years. Art is a skill, that you have to LEARN and put effort into. Hope this helped :) if you have any questions, please ask me :)
