Rare jingle used by Trans World Airlines circa 1968-70. Been looking for this one for many years; this is a remake of the classic 1967 hit from The 5th Dimension, which was written by the great Jimmy Webb. The male lead vocalist here is so off the charts schmaltzy, nevertheless, I'm thrilled to finally add this! For educational & non commercial purposes only. Be sure to check my channel for the best in VINTAGE & RARE airliner videos! / classicairlinerfilms

Air travel was a wonderful, civilized experience back then. People were nicely dressed and nicely behaved, food and movies and music and friendly attendants, and no one in the back row shouted "Thank you, Jesus!" when the plane landed.

Well it was also before they crammed as many people into a plane as possible to maximize profits and it was still somewhat comfortable to fly classes other than first.

This was an ad while my Dad worked for TWA in the 60s. He met mom in late 1969 when she was a flight attendant age 22 😄✈️🛫🛬on special assignment at the Kennedy space center in Titusville. I just love this song, I see the love my parents had for each other during this period of time ❤️/had to share!

actually from metv.com website This lush and airy slice of sunshine pop soared with its magic-carpet orchestration and dreamy falsettos. TWA adapted the song to create its memorable jingle and commercial campaign, using session musicians and anonymous singers. Upset at their replacements, the 5th Dimension sued the airline. The band lost the case, as the court noted, "Prior to producing the commercials the defendants acquired a license to use the copyrighted music, lyrics, and arrangement of 'Up, Up and Away' from Johnny Rivers Music." You can't win 'em all.

Thank you for this Commercial Video, I remember it well. My Father who was the DSM in PHL at the time asked my sister 15 and me age 17 if we thought the song 'up up and away' was drug related and we told him no. It wasn't until a year later we found out why upper management at TWA was getting input from teens before choosing this as their 'theme song' at the time. My father joined TWA in 1935 under the great Jack Frye and worked directly under him as a young salesman in the St. Louis office and sometimes in Kansas City. When my Dad went to War, jack sent him a hand written note with a Hamilton watch as a gift. After the War in 1948 (a year before Frye left TWA) he was promoted to District Sales Manager for N. Africa and we lived in Cairo, Egypt in Madi, our next door neighbor was Princess Fawzia Shirin the sister of King Farouk and the former wife of the Shaw of Iran .... Interesting times back then !

Got a challenge for ya. Back around 1972, Braniff was changing their image to the 'Flying Colors' motif. To celebrate this, Braniff came out with one of those floppy record like recordings given to passengers and employees. The jingle was 'Everybody's Talkin About Braniff', based on the Harry Nilsson 'Everybody's Talkin' (Midnight Cowboy soundtrack). I seem to recall a TV advert with this soundtrack and images of their newly acquired 747 aka 'The Great Pumpkin''. So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to locate this ad, and make me and all the other Braniff Nutz out there very happy. This tape will....well, you know the rest.

I always liked that song so I remember this commercial (or something similar) very well. In this day and age when Airbus A380 and/or 747s are the planes for international travel, I remember when my grandparents came to the United States from the UK for a visit in 1970, it was a TWA 707, just like the one in the advertisement that they had come on. They hadn't had to change planes in New York City, it was a direct flight London Heathrow-New York Kennedy-Los Angeles International. I remember being up at the arrival gate at LAX seeing them walk across the tarmac with the other passengers (no jetways in those days). Great memories! Thanks for uploading.

No, don't recall that National campaign; we might not have had in the LA area though. The first National campaign I recall was "I'm National, fly me" voiced by stewardesses (seems I recall that one causing it's share of jokes!). This TWA campaign and United's "Fly the Friendly Skies" with the song "Come Fly with Me" were my two all-time favs, music-wise. Next would be Pan American's "Pan Am makes the going great". Also loved the bird riding the tail of the Western planes, saying "Western Airlines... the ooooonly way to fly!". No catchy jingle, but cute and funny. Airline commercials definitely declined in the 1970s, but there was one campaign I loved, which was Eastern's "You Gotta Believe -- Fly Eastern!" in the mid-1970s. Would love it if someone found and posted one of those As it is, you can hear the jingle in the 1975 movie "Three Days of the Condor". Terrific, driving, optimistic theme (even features bongos!). In the movie, it's in the scene where Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway get to her apartment, and while he's waiting for the 5:00 news, he's looking at samples of her photography on the walls. The Eastern commercial is briefly seen, with a tired businessman looking up at the skies and seeing a jet winging overhead, and wondering why he's "down on the ground while they're up in the sky?". Definitely one of the all-time greats of airline commercials; and the best post-1960s one.

Widely regarded within airline advertising circles as the best all-time airline music is Eastern Airlines', "Number One To The Sun", as sung by the famous Brazilian artist, Astrud Gilberto. Look up, "The Music of Eastern Airlines", on KZfaq and there it is. It's from the mid-1960's and I think you'll agree, too, that it's gorgeous orchestrations were the best ever for advertising an airline. None better, imo.

The 707 simply ruled the air for one decade exactly (though the DC-8 was quite the runner up, it just never developed the glamour quotient) - and created an entire sensibility about jet travel that endured until the early 80s...yet it was erased in a 1-2 swipe by its own brethren, the 727 and the 747...if anyone has memories of riding on a 707 in the 70s - tell us about it...I never had the chance...they just didn't seem to be used by the major carriers anymore...
