This episode is geared towards my gray haired gang who literally make up 75% of my subscribers. Guitarists who are 40+ years old and have been awesome since day one. Some guys are like me, we bypassed some things with technology and I wanted to make a video showing the few ways I personally use my Two Notes Captor. Hope this helps!

Man, I am freshly 30 and had no idea this was possible. I’ve been playing through plugins for about 7 years now. I’ve neglected my amps because they’re too noisy for my wife and children. Also, if you have a high gain amp in a decent townhouse, attenuation is a must. I use my CaptorX all the time with my Rectoverb so I can get real tube saturation, keep my hearing and the HOA off my back.

Trust that I spent a few years shying away from the Captor but then decided to dive in and realized that it's not very cut and dry. Hi! Great guide thx! Maybe an additionnal info not covered in the video is the fack that you were not using any power-supply but we could clearly see there is a DC input and a FAN. For those like me wondering, here is the official explanation from Two Notes: "Power is required only for the XLR DI output and speaker simulation." Keep up the good work man!

If you have money you choose the Captor X, BUT if you are like me and others you need to be wise and choose to best for your bucks and the Captor 8ohms is definitely the one that can give you the most option with the greatest tone for almost a cheap price!! The 8ohms can be use with all my amps, some of my heads are only 8 or 16ohms output and others are 4 and 8ohms so to be sure to be able to use the Captor with all the amp configuration I opted for the 8ohms version... Especially with 100W of rating at 8ohms, I can use 120W under 4ohms head and use the 8ohms amp output! For me it's one of the best and most simple tool you can have if you want to record or make youtube videos for example and you can even use it as a direct box for your PA👍

Dude, I'm so stupid haha. I grew up starting to play through things like line 6 UX1's and stuff, I'm 28 now. I have a captor that I've had for like two years now that I bought to record my 6505+. I tried to use the attenuator once but didn't hook it up right because I only had one speaker cable and just didn't know how to hook it up, and just thought it made no difference. I recently bought my first bass amp so I got another speaker cable and came across this video. Finally hooked up the attenuator properly and I can play the 6505+ at bedroom levels and it sounds great! Kicking myself for not knowing this earlier, so thanks for making this video! Definitely gives me a reason to keep this amp and not get rid of it!

Great video! I'm still under 30 but this stuff can still be pretty confusing to people especially if they aren't familiar with IRs and everything. The only thing I'd like to add to this video is DO NOT have your guitar amp on without a load connected. A load is either a speaker/speaker cabinet or a load box. Solid state is a different story but bad stuff can happen to a tube head without a load connected

Just two years ago I uncovered my original MIJ 80's Ibanez and the desire to play all came back. But boy, like you said, I was timeslipped! The thought of a seven string guitar blew my mind. I'm slowly getting to grips with it a little bit at a time and this video has been a great overview of the Captor. "Where your speaker cable plugs in, that is what runs out and goes into the input of the captor"... THAT is what I've watched a dozen videos on the Captor X, that NO ONE said!!! @@davidrappaport6513 There is a cable that goes from the speaker INTO the amp head. Unplug that cable from the amp head side (so that the speaker is now disconnected). Then take a speaker cable, NOT a guitar cable, and plug that in where the speaker cable was removed from. Plug the other end of the cable into the Captor X speaker input, which may have the red cap on the input jack. Btw, my uncle's name is David RappOport !!!

The manual for this unit says in attenuation mode that you need to match the amp out impedance to the Captor impedance (makes sense) but the speaker cab doesn’t matter. It’s just that if you’ve got a 16 ohm cab the attenuation will be -15db instead. Would you agree with this?

Hey man! Great explanation yet easy to understand! Since you have peavey 6505 in the background. Can I ask you question about torpedo captor (or peavey 6505)? So, the problem I'm having is i tried to connect the peavey 6505 head to torpedo captor and to audio interface. 1. I switched off the cab sim from torpedo so I can use the dry signal from 6505 to my audio interface, and use the IRs I have in my DAW. 2. I Switched off the cab sim from torpedo, then I plugged the torpedo with ts (also tried trs) cable from the "Line" output from the torpedo into my IR pedal , then go to audio interface. Both methods didn't seem to work well, the low end disappear everytime i cranked the volume past 1. And it drives me crazy honestly. Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering if there's something going on with the IR setting in the DAW. I use my Radar or CabM and they work fine. The only difference between what I do and you do, is that digital IR in your DAW. See if there's something that needs to be changed between the amp's volume, the Captor's volume and your IR's. :)

I’m a bit late to the show here but I had a question about this thing. When you plug headphones into it, does it sound better than plugging the headphones into the headphone jack of the amp? For reference I use the 5150 III 50W
@louistorres
@louistorres Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely it sounds better with the two notes but there's a but... If you use headphones from the amp, you're just hearing the head and whatever pedals you're using. There's no cabinet coloring... When you go guitar into EVH out to the two notes, you can now add an IR loader. For me, I'll either use the Mooer Radar and run the Mesa 412 cabinet IR or use my Two Notes CABM and again, with a Mesa 412 IR and out to headphones. If you're just looking to practice at home without waking up the family, get the mini Mooer EVH pedal and the Mooer Radar and call it a day. Now you can practice literally anywhere, get the same sound but only drag around two little pedals. That's literally what the two guitarists from Cradle of Filth do when they tour. Two guitars each and two tiny pedals. :)

@@louistorres awesome! I’ll look into those two pedals. Right now I’m just attenuating the 5150 and playing through a 212 and it sounds good, just looking for even quieter options as my only free time now is later at night.

Yeah, this was a great research video. I was wondering if I could get away with this one as opposed to the Captor X, which has the cab sims AND a headphone jack. Sad those are going for $600 in 2023, but it's still cheaper than a $1500 UA OX box.
@zac88anderson

So you can not load third party irs in to the captor or it's software?
@louistorres
@louistorres Жыл бұрын
You can but with the Captor X model, which is the white version and is about $600. The one I have is the original that sells for $300.

@@louistorres have you used their wall of sound for recording? I guess that comes with a bunch of cabs. I want to get this and then use that to record. Im assuming that's how that works.

Legit, bro I was exactly the same! I didn't know what things were for or how to use them and when to use one over another. It took me years but only because I had to figure most of the things by myself but I want to create a series where I go over all this in a simpler way. I literally JUST learned yesterday how to break in a speaker! I thought I just needed to play out of an amp and that was it. My buddy David Drake installs high end speakers in cars and me sent me a video of how me does it! I was shocked!

Im desperately looking for an affordable attenuator for my 6505+
@louistorres
@louistorres 2 жыл бұрын
Alas, the ones that really work the best are around $200 or so. Stay away from those $75 attenuators that work for six months then you have to buy another one. Buy once, hurt once. Buy twice, hurt twice. :)

You can run a volume pedal through your effects loop. Second master volume. I have a'96 Peavey 5150 that I am very protective of so I even called them to make sure doing this was alright. They said go ahead. That's what it's for! And depending on the style music you are playingIs going to have a direct effect on the success of your attenuator. Along with soaking power it soaks up tone too.
