The constant disclaimers. 😂😂 Even all of us gays live in fear of Swifties! I'm a folklore and evermore stan but like reputation, they aren't everyone's cup of tea. HOWEVER, if someone tells me they don't like Fearless, Speak Now and/or Red, I will take it very personally. Those albums got me through high school! 💛💜❤️

folklore and evermore have a LOT of songs from Taylor's personal experience, but it's folded into other concepts and therefore less obvious. Jack says as much during the long pond session when he calls a song very folklore because "it's not about you but it's all about you."

It is a wild to consider folklore and evermore non-autobiographical when at least 9/16 songs on folklore are either definitely about her, or could easily be about her.

I think people’s favorites tend to be very tied to when they became fans. Those who were fans early on in her career tend to have a lot more love for the earlier albums. But I didn’t become a full fledged Swiftie until very recently, so I have a lot of love for Midnights and the twins. I can appreciate the early albums, but only have a few songs from them in regular rotation.

willow is abt joe (WILLiam bOWery). champagne problems they wrote together and joe didn’t want to marry taylor. gold rush, love song it’s literally the colour she name drops for joe. tis the damn season is abt someone from her past who she looks back on. tolerate it… looking at the split seems to be abt joe. nbnc is fictional definitely. happiness is reflecting on her past likely the stolen album situation or relationship. dorethea is abt friendship (selena). coney island was written with joe. ivy is a classic love song. cowby like me fictional with a VERY DEEP MEANING. long story short is reflection on everything through her life that has happend. majorie is her grandma. closure is again reflecting on someone or something. evermore was written with joe and its her finally overcoming everything to release the pain won’t be for evermore. rwylm is superior clearly made up but superior song writing and it’s time to go is abt the re-recording situation

I’m 36 and didn’t become a Taylor fan until Rep, so you’ll never see me jumping on anyone’s throat for how they rank their favorites. That said, when you two mentioned that the first two mentions would get people to stop watching, I gasped and then LOL. The fact that she chose to write songs that aren’t all about her is precisely why I love those albums so much. Sure, I absolutely love when you can tell that a song is deeply personal to an artist, but I appreciate that she chose to try something new/different (for her) and it worked. Those two albums are masterpieces, but of course there will always be those who disagree. Nothing wrong with that. I appreciate the honesty! 😁

Ok, so, I find it interesting to me that you both say that Speak Now is the most her. I wonder if the difference with where one places the albums depends on when someone got into Taylor. I got into Taylor's music during the Lover album. So when Folklore came out, it was mind-blowing! I always associate Taylor's songwriting with the style in Lover and Folklore, not necessarily Speak Now. She's a poet, and to me Lover and Folklore and Evermore and Midnights all have that very poetic writing style that is just different and more skilled for me than in Speak Now. I will still put Speak Now above Lover, but I cannot put it above Folklore, Evermore, or Midnights for that reason.

You are 100% correct on how special it is that no Taylor fan will have the same album ranking! What a feat to have such consistent and varied work that can speak to so many different people in different ways! Fearless is my “least favorite” but truly love every Taylor album in different ways and I completely understand why it is so many people’s favorite! I think for a lot of people the nostalgia of Fearless plays a big part but Debut was that album for me!

Here are my rankings (based on my current taste, including bonus tracks): 1. Folklore, 2. Reputation, 3. 1989, 4. Midnights, 5. Evermore, 6. Red, 7. Lover, 8. Fearless, 9. Debut, 10. Speak Now (I know I know I'm sorry, something about that era just never hit for me) I had the entirety of Fearless on repeat when it came out (when I was 11), but my taste has changed a lot and I don't revisit those songs much these days.

Oh I’m so on board with a lot of what u said 😅 FL and EM aren’t for me either. I agree - they should’ve been 1 album. You’re totally right about Lover feeling very Taylor. I do love it, I wish she’d had more of a moment. But you’re wild for putting it above 1989 💀 Speak Now seems to always peek its head as a personal fav. It’s the first TS album I think of. It’s skinless. I think the vault tracks are also the best so far 🥰 stunning! I’m a rep fan, but totally get that it’s not for everyone. And I very much can admit I just replayed the same 6 tracks over and over. But on stage that album still wins. I reallyyyy want a rock inspired album from Taylor 👀

Absolutely loved hearing both of your thoughts on Taylor's albums, even if I may not necessarily agree. I always love to see how different swifties feel about each of her albums and their reasoning for ranking them a certain way. Here are my rankings, but I fear how much they will change as soon as we get Reputation TV, Taylor Swift TV, and The Tortured Poets Department lol. I have been a swiftie since debut, when I was a toddler and my mom would play Our Song, Picture To Burn, and Should've Said No on the tv. 1. Speak Now 2. reputation 3. folklore 4. Midnights 5. 1989 6. Lover 7. evermore 8. Fearless 9. Red 10. Debut

Taylor's discography is amazing. However, her albums can feel incredibly long and bloated. There is *always* 3 or 4 songs that I cannot listen to and skip. But Folklore, to me, is her most cohesive *album* where each song compliments the one that came before and after.

My 2 favorite albums are folklore and red because, let's be real: How can I possibly choose just one?😅 But even though folklore will always be so close to my heart, I think or at least I assume delusionaly that I understand the point you made about the twin sister albums. It's true if you want to really listen to an authentic Taylor Swift song, you gotta go back two Fearless, Speak Now and Red. These 3 albums are the most story based, heart-breaking, and personal songs she has ever written, in my opinion. After Red, the 1989 album was like an experiment in the studio where she started to appeal to the mainstream and went less lyrically driven in her music as far as I know, but feel free to correct me. And we all know what happened after that, right? Reputation was a revenge era! Then I think she had to tone down her dramatic and iconic 180 change up by disconnecting herself from the narrative of her next songs so that she won't get overexposed later on, in my opinion. Because of that, for some people, those 2 albums didn’t feel aligned with the "Taylor Swift vibe". Basically, they didn't feel so much personal to her. So, I can see what you mean 😊 By the way, I love your videos. They're so entertaining yet very educational ❤

"Our opinions are not every swiftie's opinion" - yeah, we know :P I'm gonna be honest, y'all *always* talk about how Folklore and Evermore are not personal, and that you love the personal aspect to Taylor's writing. I personally just don't get this at all. Folklore and Evermore are *very personal* in that they talk about deep subjects from a personal point of view of a fictional character. They *are* personal. Taylor isn't limiting herself to her own experiences, she can explore different topics. That is the sign of a *great writer.* Also, you listed like half the album of Folklore as songs you like and then said "it's got some highlights", lmao. Oh, the irony. Just let yourself love Folklore!
@courtneywilliams6222
@courtneywilliams6222 5 ай бұрын
I think it’s pretty evident that they mean personal TO HER. There is a big difference, in my opinion, between ‘I created this great, personal story and song for this fictional character’ and ‘I’m going through this emotional event in my own life and I NEED to write about it.’
@christianseibold3369
@christianseibold3369 5 ай бұрын
@@courtneywilliams6222 I do not think there's a distinction, especially in good literature. I thought this was obvious in my comment. *Great authors who write their fictional stories have a personal connection to those stories. Every reader knows this.* Sorry, that's just my opinion. Regardless, if you watch the Folklore Pond Studio Sessions, you will know that the songs actually are personal about her own life, this is just not so evident in the stories of the songs. Every fictional story can be related to one's own life, and that's called being empathetic.

@christianseibold3369
@christianseibold3369 5 ай бұрын
Have to disagree. It's not what people *want* and *expect* Taylor to be, but it *is* Taylor because Taylor wasn't just influenced by Country and Pop, she was influenced by Folk, a thing a ton of fans seem to just skip over. I'm talking about Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Justin Vernon, etc. Folklore is more like Speak Now and Fearless than 1989 is. Why? Because Speak Now and Fearless are all about fictional storytelling! Dragons and castles and magic.
