Yep his friend's Grandma. teenage boys need a place to hang out where they aren't exactly getting into trouble, but can still be rebellious teenage boys. That was her place for tyler and his friends. "Boys be good"

Grandmas (especially mountain/southern Grandmas) haven't ever met a child that doesn't belong to them. My own Grandma had dozens of "extra" grandchildren. The door was open and it was always a safe place. That is who Virgie is to him.
@Shreky2714

This song was about his friends grandma and his name was Cody. The song title “Follow you to Virgie” represents Cody’s grandma dying and Tyler coming home to Virgie, Kentucky “to lay to rest this mountain beauty, that the lords have called home.” When it talks about “Back when all us boys were trying, to make sense of all these strings, I can see her in the corner, singing along to all our crazy dreams” it’s talking about how Cody, Tyler and their friends would go to grandmas house and play guitar for her and she would sing. When you know the backstory of a song it brings so much more life to it. I hope you enjoyed this song!

If you watch the red barn radio version of this song, he gives a whole backstory on how I'm high school he and his friends would go to someone's house nearby and their grandma would always listen to them play guitar, and this was a song he wrote when that grandma passed away. I watched this version first and it made the song hit way harder, tearjerker for sure

I was not expecting that voice out of that body! Great guitar...crisp,clean, interesting chords. Good song...can feel the emotion. However, I didn't really like the voice combined with the guitar in this case. I want to go listen to/look at more songs before I make up my mind about his music. It does sound like it's about either his mother or grandmother. My guess was grandmother, in the long run, since it seemed "the boys" were already grown enough to help her when she was tired out. I see from David Emswiler's comment, that that's correct. So I can see where the emotion would have maybe affected his voice more than usual. Off to go find out more. Thanks for the reaction. :-)

@Misplaced Hillbilly You mean because Tyler's songs are so simple, so linear, that we'd all understand what the songs are saying on our very first listen? I'm thinking that he's deeper than that, that words admit of different meanings, and he uses them in such a way to take us on a journey that sometimes leaves us wondering.

@@RockN2Country no I'm saying LISTEN and hear the deeper meaning as it affects you. Sometimes people get completely different meanings from the same lyrics. Don't overthink it, feel it. You don't need to know who Tyler is thinking of when he sings. Who do YOU think of, and you may not know what or where Virgie is, it may mean many things to different people. My earlier post came off a bit harsh i think, I didn't mean it that way.

I like your style, snydesy---you'd fit in just fine here in New Jersey. Let me put it in perspective for you. In the early '90s the Dallas Cowboys had the best defense in the NFL. Straight up, #1 defense. And they didn't have a single player that year who made the All-Star team. It was about their body of work that made them great. That's Tyler with the songs I've rated. 8.4 and 8.5 are very good ratings, and a 9 is very hard to get. Someone got pissed off at me a while back for rating Miranda Lambert's songs at 8.4 and 8.5, even though she's my favorite artist. I told that poster to take a look at how many songs of Miranda's I've rated so far (at that time it was around 10, the most by far of any artist), an that will tell you how much I like the artist. That's also Tyler Childers, my friend. As for Canada, check out my reactions to Colter Wall.
