Tyler,The Creator's full-length debut is a surprising collection of beats and rhymes coming from a teenage kid. On this album, Tyler lashes out against hip hop, his negligent father, and rap blogs. He says most things for the lulz, but it's hard not to laugh along with him.
There's a lot of darkness on this album, too, where Tyler creates a killing, raping, and kidnapping persona who shows little to no sympathy for anything. It's hard not to compare it to DOOM or Eminem's early work.
There are some pretty decent beats flowing throughout this thing, too. It's a little too indulgent, but that's the nature of this album. It feels like Tyler was making this music for himself, mostly, which is what makes it such an interesting listen.

Bastard is my favorite. Honestly. I'm so happy that he seems to be doing better mentally. But I'm at a pretty dark time right now,so WOLF doesn't really reach me. Even though the beats are much better and lyrically he's much better. I'm not saying that Bastard is better at all. Bastard just reaches me more. And in the future when things brighten up for me,I will feel more of a connection to WOLF. It's filled with hope with a hint of darkness and humor. Just thought I'd share my opinion.

I get excited when you review an album I am/have listened to and, for me, you are one of the best methods of convincing me to listen to other artists. You make me intrigued about whatever you're reviewing. Would like to see you touch on album art a little more seeing as it's part of the experience.

I think this is one of your best rap/hip-hop reviews this year-I like the history you give behind this Odd Fututre group. Speaking of mixtapes, you should check out a new one from space funk duo Starlight and Magic (I think you'll enjoy it, maybe). I think hip hop and rap this year has been at a standstill, concerning artists like Kanye and Rick Ross, like you mentioned. But I am interested in Tyler, The Creator and will give it a listen. By the way, that WALSH ep is the best!

I love this album. I think it is pure genius. He breaks a lot of stereotypes and really displays braverity in his usage of very jaring and provocative honesty. I think this is the beginning of what is to be a very exciting career to watch mature and I think he has already brought a multitude of new demensions(creatively) to the rap game. His music is really poetry and I respect what he is doing.

my favorite part about fantano is that he recognizes that tyler makes music for himself and respects that personality and how it reflects in his music. tyler *still* makes music for himself too

This is my favorite Tyler album, idk I just love how he sounded. Also, it has some legendary songs like (IMO) his best song bastard, seven, odd toddlers (underrated af), pigs fly, parade, sow it down, assmilk(🔥), session, and inglorious. Most of the album is Tyler talking about the absence of his father in his life with a few exceptions like blow and sarah.

i love this album! the beats and instrumentals are very unique. The chord progressions are interesting. I just really like the overall album from start to finish. It's full of energy and tyler just grips me with his vocals. they are very visual and i feel for the guy and can relate to it.

Honestly didn't expect such a good review. I agree on alota' what you said. Spesh' the Slim Shady Lp reference. As for hiphop in 2010. I didn't find anything that made it into my collection. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough. Hopefull you can help me out in the furture *Subbed* :)

2020 Watching this and I have to say this review is so telling and spot on of how different and weak the rap game was in the 2010. The 2010’s gave birth to so many legends around this time like the Kendricks and Joey’s of the world

Bastard is a good album because it has dark, interesting theme, it shows Tyler's original material, and it has a good tone with instrumentals including the piano
