As an American I love candy, but I am not at all familiar with British candy. Today I am very excited to learn about the most popular British candy and how it compares to cand in America. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!

Yeah Hersey’s blocked Cadbury’s from selling their products in the US. Instead Hersey’s paid for a license to make and sell Cadbury products but with the Hersey chocolate recipe. I recently saw an American whose favourite chocolate was the American Cadbury’s Dairy Milk bar. Try the UK version. They said it was really good. Then for comparison tried her usual American version. She stopped and said “Huh…….thats weird”. Basically acknowledging there was a slightly unpleasant aftertaste. They were also aware that American chocolate contains a chemical found in vomit. That gives American chocolate a slightly acid vomit flavour. As well as American chocolate containing half the amount of cocoa, so they try to add artificial flavour and more sugar to make up for it.

@andyf4292 Hersheys isn’t the only chocolate company in America. Remember Mars? Its staples Snickers, Milky Way, M&Ms and, of course, Mars bars which is mentioned in this video, have been selling around the world for ages. And then there’s Swiss giant Nestle. And just like Britain there are smaller higher brow companies like Thorntons. America has Whitmans, they also have Ghiradelli, and let’s see🤔 oh yes Sees, another popular Californian (and therefore American) chocolatier that has had British work colleagues of mine polishing off boxes of the stuff double speed. That should put to rest any theories about other foreign countries’ chocolates being kept out to rescue Hershey’s. Apparently no need, I guess it just means some people like it’s bittersweet flavour.

@@ianmatthews3041 OK, I don’t know about the origins of all chocolate bars, it may well be, but like Hershey’s the Mars company is an American company that originated in that country and then became global. And their chocolate is eaten by millions in countries around the world, including of course Britain. And it’s chocolate is mellow and sweet. Hershey’s isn’t as good, and Cadbury’s is much better. No argument there.

If you’re from the north, yes, if you’re from everywhere else, curry sauce, and 2. Chips are thick cut fries over there and fries are McDonald’s. Meanwhile here in America, fries encompass all types of differently cut potatoes. Thick cut, thin cut, doesn’t matter, all the same. Except for potato wedges I suppose.

American Cadbury products are made by Hershey! Hershey instigated a lawsuit (otherwise known as protectionism) to prevent an American company importing Cadbury products into the US as they knew it was a much better product and would hit their sales. They gained the right to manufacture Cadbury in the US, but also altered the recipe for the chocolate (something to do with the way they incorporate milk into the product) so it is no longer a true Cadbury product. From an item reported in the UK Daily Express today 12th December, a national newspaper: "Thousands of pounds worth of sweets from the US allegedly containing illegal ingredients have been seized from UK shops. Mountain Dew drinks, Jolly Ranchers, Swedish Fish and Lemon Heads are being advertised on TikTok and Instagram. But they are reported to contain carcinogenic and genotoxic ingredients banned here"

Jelly Babies are like a fruit juice Jell-O/jelly thickened with corn starch. "A pastille is a type of sweet or medicinal pill made of a thick liquid that has been solidified and is meant to be consumed by light chewing and allowing it to dissolve in the mouth". There are still many of us in the UK annoyed that our "Marathon Bar", was renamed to the international standard name of "Snickers". "After Eights" were marketed as a "sophisticated" after dinner mint. Eaten after a formal evening dinner. Now a staple part of Christmas confectionary.

It really is insane but even the same products by name taste totally different in the USA. I've seen a lot of comparison videos and just the ingredients are so different. They don't have a clue how it's supposed to taste. I've forgotten how many ingredients were on just a macd fries but overhere there are 3 potato, salt and oil in the US there are huge amounts of ingredients. It is even very hard to find candy without artificial flavours and sweeteners. Even quite a choise for Islamic kids.

It's because Hershey has the license to make and distribute Cadbury branded chocolate and make it using horrible American chocolate. And I think Hershey has taken Cadbury to court over Cadbury supposedly ripping off Hersheys cream egg recipe. Which sounds like bullshit to me. I always find it interesting that Americans find the idea of mixing chocolate with Orange flavouring unusual. In the UK it's a very common type of chocolate - both in terms of chocolate bars, but also sauces for desserts etc. Wine gums do not have any alcohol or alcoholic flavouring - no idea where the name came from. After Eights are meant to be eaten at the end of a sophisticated meal, with the coffee.

Jelly Babies are also the best sweet to carry around if you are diabetic and your blood sugar level plummets and you need a quick hit of sugar. As such they are also a great sweet to carry if you are hiking and feel your energy flagging. Many hikers know to carry "Emergency Jelly Babies". The idea is not to use them when hiking, but they are there if you need a quick kick of energy to keep you going. The best part though, is if you don't use them up in the hills, you have a full packet to eat when you get home 😁.

Hi Tyler, The Hershey chocolate taste is caused by the addition of Butyric Acid which was added to both extend the shelf life of the chocolate and to stop milk from going sour. In World War 2 Hershey sold its chocolate to the American armed services and was added to ration packs of soldiers because of the long shelf life. The soldiers got used to the acrid flavour and after the war these veterans wanted the same taste in their chocolate therefore Hershey kept to the same recipe rather than modernise the manufacturing process. European chocolate, however, still has superior ingredients in comparison with chocolate in the US . I remember, when I was a child, my grandfather always bought my brother and me a bag of Jelly Babies (in those days they were sold by weight into a paper bag). He told us to always go for the boy Jelly Babies as they had a little bit extra! We never did find a boy Jelly Baby.

Cadbury is a British Chocolate company founded in Birmingham in 1824. Hershey has a licence to produce Cadbury chocolate in the US. The British product is far superiior as Milk chocolate in the UK and Europe must caontain at least 25% chocolate solids but in the US the minimum is 10% and the flavour is enhanced by adding extra sugar.

So the only ways you can get genuine Cadbury in the US is to either have a friend in the UK who will send you some or for you to go shopping at a foreign food store. The taste of US Cadbury compared the UK Cadbury is very very different with the UK's being smoother and creamier than that in the US.

Rowntree's of York, England, have been making "Chocolate Beans" since at least 1882. The product was renamed "Smarties Chocolate Beans" in 1937. M&M's originated in the United States in 1941.

We don't call our SWEETS candy . The filling in a Crunchie is what Americans call cinder toffee. Blackcurrants are a FRUIT BERRY not a flavour ! Galaxy chocolate is a lot smoother and creamier than Cadbury's. Jelly Babies are NOT tough on the outside. It's weird hearing Americans put the emphasis on different words than Brits.

Hershey is the name of American chocolate/sweets. But when you use it as an adjective, it takes a possessive "' 's " e.g. "Hershey's chocolate". The same applies to Cadbury, Nestle, Rowntree'. etc. It sounds so jarring to hear "I like Cadbury." Because (like the word 'maths') we say "Cadbury's" e.g. "I like Cadbury's [chocolate]." No-one's going to reel over in shock & horror when they hear 'Cadbury' 'Nestle' without the 's. It just sounds kinda 'foreign' - exactly like "math".😆😆

There really is no comparison between British chocolate and North American chocolate. British chocolate is much creamier without the grease. I hadn’t realized that North American chocolate had a ‘greasy’ look until opening a bar of British chocolate. Same brand, same name Smarties are similar to M&M’s, except M&M’s are made with dark chocolate. Smarties are made with milk chocolate

Please don't confuse the US-made Cadbury with others around the world. Hershey bought the exclusive rights to manufacture this brand in US and uses a different recipe. The original, British Cadbury is sold in over 80 countries and is the second biggest confectionary company in the world, with about 11 percent of all global sales. Only Mars is slightly bigger. Hershey is 6th largest.

My cousin lived out there and bought one from the British shop. None of his family and friends like it, in fact they acted like Toddlers eating a fresh lemon lol Even worse they didn't like after 8 mints. Again ran about like Toddlers screaming "toothpaste" 🙄 They really have a bland/boring pallette over there, and are reluctant to try anything different to what they're used to. My cousin used to buy loads of goodies from the British shops, as American sweets/chocolate is terrible.

Orange and chocolate are a classic combination and very popular. It's probably the most common flavour combination with chocolate after mint. Jaffa cakes and Cointreau liqueur are other examples. Black current is always a winner and one of the most popular flavours over here. Eaten raw black currents have quite a sharp flavour so they're sweetened in drinks and other flavourings. We had them in our garden when I was a kid along with red currents, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries, logan berries, cherries, plums, apples, pears and rhubarb. Cadbury Creme eggs the white and yolk are a cream fondant. I used to love them as a kid, but then Kraft bought out Cadbury and changed the recipe using cheaper ingredients so now they're sickly sweet and not nearly as nice. Jelly babies - It's a requirement to bite their heads off!😁 They're softer than most gummies and dusted in icing sugar.
